Raquel and Derek have put together a beautiful place to stay! It felt very luxurious, and somehow also with a reasonable price - amazing. When we arrived we were welcomed by the gorgeous plants and pristine space, and a very thoughtful snack basket and bottle of wine. The kitchen seemed well-stocked and plenty big for any cooking we might have wanted to do (next time!). The bedroom was cozy and comfortable, and the main area as well (there is actually a whole second couch now compared to the listing photos). The bathroom was extremely clean and had all the amenities big and small - and we're sure if we discovered something we needed, Raquel and Derek would be able to provide it after a quick text or call. Wish we could have stayed even longer and spent more time enjoying the hot tub and the whole ambiance of the place - will definitely look to come back next time we visit San Diego.

This property was perfect for our needs the past weekend. The bed and sofa bed were comfortable and you can tell the amount of thought that went into furnishing the space. Kitchen and bathroom was stocked with everything you'd need. I would book this property again.

Raquel is a wonderful host. The cottage has everything you need and Raquel has an artistic touch. We were greeted with a sweet note, a bottle of wine and snacks both sweet and savory. Easy communication and privacy. We will definitely return.

Comfortable and modern retreat for my wife and I to meet up with my brother who drove in from AZ. Good location to get to airport, Balboa Park, and points east to meet up with the rest of the family who came from several states. Some stayed with local family, but we wanted to try this option and split the cost. Five of them also came over to visit one day and were impressed with the quality of the rooms compared with a motel. You get so much more here with little extra cost. It made for a more comfortable visit and gave us a retreat to come for some rest. We'll do it again!

Only single thing was I wish the hot tub protocol was simpler- prolly cause of irresponsible renters they were simply making sure we knew how to use it correctly.

Serra Mesa is a spotless gem located close to the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, beaches, shopping and restaurants. Clean, classy and comfortable. It is well equipped and has all the amenities. Personally, we did not dine at Serra Mesa as our days started early and ended late; but it appeared to have everything you would need for any meal including a BBQ. An unexpected surprise was the hot tub. I did not meet Raquel until the morning we departed, though she did drop of extra sheets for the pullout couch the evening we arrived and she spoke with my daughter. When I knocked on Raquel’s door to thank her for the stay she was kind, warm and gracious. I would definitely recommend this VRBO and would not hesitate to book it again if I return to San Diego in the future.

My Husband and I booked this property for our anniversary. We wanted something affordable and close to Balboa Park. This property exceeded all our expectations. Perfect location, extremely clean, modern style, well decorated, and the host were so accommodating and kind. They keep great communication and make sure you feel right at home! My Husband and I highly recommend this property, you will absolutely love your stay!

My son and I stayed here for a week while in San Diego for a baseball tournament. The property is in a great location, nice quiet neighborhood, close to freeway access. We were able to get to pretty much any local attraction in under 20 minutes. The "urban escape" is just that..... with attention to every detail, including the incredibly comfortable bed and soft, hotel-style sheets. The entire place is impeccably clean and very stylishly decorated. The layout is somewhat "studio-ish" as there is not a true bedroom, but it is very comfortable, with separation between the comfy queen bed, and the sofa bed in the living/dining area. We felt very comfortable in the space, and were able to come back from long days, and truly relax. Raquel was there to meet us and help us with any questions. She is an incredibly friendly, wonderful host. She was very responsive to texts and any communication, making our stay worry free. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a clean, nice, quiet, well-located place to stay in the San Diego area.

This property is super clean, everything looks spotless and feels new. The bed was very comfortable, top to bottom very happy with the stay. Ultra quiet, great location to freeway and downtown, great value for the money. Owner Raquel has great communication, everything was smooth. A+

The home was extremely clean and the bed was super comfortable! I traveled with my friend and her 2 year old son, we felt very safe with the many security cameras around the property, however the property isn’t really fit for young children who need space to play around. If you’re looking for a relaxing adult getaway this could be a great place for you. If you like to stay up late I wouldn’t recommend because quiet time is at 10pm, respectfully so. Overall, very well pleased with the home and amenities.

I had a very pleasant one-week stay here. The neighborhood is very quiet, and there is no trouble finding a parking spot on the street. There is easy access to freeways. The rental is like a studio apartment. The cathedral ceiling gives it a spacious feeling. There are lots of windows for natural light; otherwise, keep the curtains closed and the recessed lighting can be dimmed or brightened as you prefer. The place is immaculate, and due to the no shoes policy, I felt comfortable doing yoga on the bare floor. Raquel and Derek provided some breakfast food and treats, which meant I didn't need to rush to the grocery store upon arrival. I had two relatives stay with me for part of the time, and we all were well accommodated. I definitely would stay here again.

Everything was as "advertised", no surprises, very clean space in quiet neighborhood. We like to walk every morning, area was great for that as well, would stay again.

We stayed for couple of days and did not have any issue. Raquel was very prompt with our queries and was always there to help. We had initial trouble with door and switches, but it was just the matter of getting used to it, and this was also mentioned to us by Raquel so we were prepared for it. Would visit again.

Cute and cozy place, very functional. Neighborhood is quiet and walkable, perfect for kids. Owners gave us a warm welcome, gave us the right privacy and have been very accommodating. Would come back anytime.

I don't have access to my initial message to Raquel but here's her reply: "Hi there! It’s a very quiet apartment that is in the back of the main house but attached to the main house. My parents my husband and I live in the front part of the house. We totally understand what you mean." From this you can tell that I asked for a quiet place which this was not! You can hear every bump, word and moan that goes on in the place, all of which occurred after 11pm! I complained and got no satisfaction, now I'm out $300 because Homeaway has no way of recovering your money if the host is a dishonest person as is the case here.

The place was very welcoming, and the owners had literally thought of everything that we could need, and had it already placed there. It was extremely clean (exactly how we like it) and super accommodating. We totally recommend this place!
