We loved our stay in Penafiel, the house is huge, the pool is awesome and there's a lot of room for everybody. The ping pong table was much much appreciated.

There were ten of us staying at the villa and we had a fantastic week. The villa is beautiful, set in stunning grounds and with a lovely swimming pool. All the rooms were attractive and had air con and the bathrooms clean and well equipped. We had several barbecues and there were different areas for sitting dependent on whether you wanted sun or shade. The grown up kids really enjoyed the games room which is huge and played table football , pool and table tennis. Large supermarket only fifteen minutes away and Porto town about forty minutes to drive to. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone visiting the Porto region

Très belle maison spacieuse propre et accueillante. Très bien équipée Miguel nous a très bien accueilli et nous a présenté les environs. Ne pas hésiter !

Nous avons passé une superbe semaine dans cette maison. Tous était parfait Nous étions 7 adultes et 8 enfants. La maison est très grande, propre et au calme. Il y a de la place pour tout le monde et si quelqu'un veut un petit moment tranquille, pas de problème pour s'isoler. Chambres propres avec sdb pour chacune.Cuisine parfaitement équiper ( il manquerait peut-être un petit congélateur pour les glaces, glaçons, etc). La piscine est grande et parfaitement adaptée pour les groupes. Les enfants ont aussi adoré la salle de jeux. Je remercie les propriétaires pour leurs conseils et leur gentillesse.

Casa Amarela is a really spacious house with a big pool and a fascinating garden. We loved to spent the time in the pool or in the room with different games (table tennis, tabletop football and pool billard). The house was very well equipped and there were also enough dishes, glasses and cutlery for many people. The owner, Oscar, and his son Miguel were really fantastic - they welcomed us very kindly and were always interested in making our stay as comfortable as possible. They gave us good recommendations - which places to visit or what kind of activities were offered around the area. When there was the need for anything, Oscar and Miguel helped right away: one sunshade broke down - the next day we got a brand new one. We already look forward to spent another holiday at Casa Amarela.

There were 6 adults and 8 children staying here for a week and it was fabulous . Oscar and Miguel were fantastic hosts and looked after us so well. The house is excellent and the little village nearby is quaint. Penafiel is a bigger town, about 15 minutes away. This is a terrific place to stay for a large group , highly recommended .

Zeer geslaagde week in een villa die geheel compleet was. Alle ruime kamers voorzien van goede bedden, een eigen badkamer en een eigen airco; laatste was zeer welkom met het hete weer. Voldoende handdoeken en ander linnengoed aanwezig. Heel ruime keuken voorzien van alle apparatuur en voldoende koelruimte voor ons gezelschap, inclusief vriezer. Audio -en televisie apparatuur ook prima. Ruime zitkamer voorzien van heerlijke banken en ook nog een eetkamer. Vanwege het mooie weer hebben we die nauwelijks gebruikt. Nog een grote benedenverdieping die we nauwelijks hebben gebruikt met goed biljart, tafeltennistafel en tafelvoetbal. Huis voorzien van een hele mooie ruime veranda die we elke ochtend en avond hebben gebruikt voor ontbijt en avondeten en om zo maar lekker te zitten met prachtig uitzicht over de omgeving; bij mooi weer een mooie zonsondergang. Goed werkende barbecue en daarnaast een pizza oven om heerlijke pizza's te bakken. Ook het zwembad was heerlijk met veel ruimte er om heen om lekker te zonnen na een heerlijke duik. Zwembad voorzien van zuiveringsinstallatie, bleef dus lekker schoon. Rondom de villa nog veel ruimte en groen met fruitbomen waar we de vruchten af mochten halen. Een buitengewoon vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaar die niets te veel was om te vertellen of te regelen, ook reistips. Tip: vraag via de eigenaar of dat iemand vanuit het dorp een diner wil verzorgen met lokale gerechten, bij ons was dat een groot succes. In de omgeving is ook voldoende te zien, te beleven. Markt in Paredes is mooi , veel kleding. Ook in Penafiel een markt, wat kleiner. Ook andere plaatsen in de omgeving bezocht, inclusief wijngaard waar port wordt gemaakt. Bezoek aan Porto ook zeer de moeite waard, één dag is eigenlijk te weinig. Tip: neem vanuit Penafiel de trein naar Porto, voor een klein bedrag kom je op het hoofdstation midden in Porto. Ruim 40 minuten reistijd. In het kort: een prachtig huis niet ver van Porto (ruim 40 minuten met de auto) in een prachtige rustige omgeving waar veel te zien is met Porto zelf als hoogtepunt.

Nous avons passé une semaine formidable à 12 personnes dans cette magnifique propriété.Nous avons été très bien accueillis par nos hôtes. Encore merci pour tout. Vivement l'année prochaine qu'on remettre ça!!!

Nous avons passés un séjour superbe dans la maison de Miguel en famille. Nous étions 15 personnes et la maison est très bien adaptée pour un grand groupe. Elle est très spacieuse, les chambres aussi et la literie est de qualité. Présence de nombreuses salles de bain ! Idéal pour éviter les bouchons le matin. Maison très propre à notre arrivée. Equipements nombreux (piscine avec portail fermé, cuisine extérieure, barbecue, salle de jeux ...). Jardin et verger attenant agréable pour une balade matinale et déguster les fruits si la saison le permet. Enfin, la situation est assez bonne pour rayonner entre Porto, le Douro... Un très bon séjour en résumé. Merci à Miguel et Louisa

Well where do we start? The owner, Oscar, and his son, Miquel, were fantastic. We were met at the local Supermarket on arrival by Miquel; he then took part of our party in his car (at least one car is essential due to the location) to the Villa after they had been dropped off at the agreed meeting point by taxi. The villa itself was even better than we expected - the pictures do not do it justice. We were a party of 10 so had plenty of room in what is a really spacious villa, with everything you could wish for if you are looking for a pleasant and comfortable stay. The villa itself is approx. 3 miles from the nearest town of Penafiel and to be honest, apart from several runs to the local supermarket, we could have remained in the villa and its wonderful grounds for the whole week. Three days in to our break, the dishwasher broke down and within 24hrs it was renewed. In addition to that, we were given approx. 10 bottles of white wine that the owner had produced himself - a very generous gift for being without a dishwasher for a day (and an excellent wine at that). Our party consisted of 3 generations, and the villa and its wonderful pool catered for all and made for an extremely successful week. We have never holidayed in the same place twice, but will definitely consider returning at some point in future years.

Casa Amarela was just the job for a reunion of Guy's nurses (including one from Australia) and their other halves. The house is spacious, comfortable and quiet. Some of us even managed a bracing dip in the pool and it was certainly pleasant to sit around it in the evening sun after a day out. Miguel was a most gracious host - guiding the first arrivals up from the supermarket (I'm not sure we would have found it otherwise), and showing us everything we needed to know. Although our guide book was a bit sniffy about the area we liked Penafiel, enjoyed several country walks, found a few good restaurants and took a couple of trips to nearby attractions. All-in-all we had a most pleasant week.

I was looking for somewhere that would accommodate my family and friends in order to celebrate a special birthday. Casa Amarela absolutely ticked all the boxes. A very spacious, well equipped house in a quiet area, with a lovely pool and gardens. I had good communication with Oscar before arrival and he was able to meet us and show us the property and answer any questions. Overall a fabulous place, beautifully maintained and perfect for a large group to stay in and to appreciate this unspoiled region. Thank you Oscar and Miguel, I very much hope we will meet again!

One of the best places we have stayed in! Miguel was very helpful and friendly. The house was just as described and very well maintained. We have never seen such a clean pool and the grounds were well kept and interesting. The place is not easy to find but with Miguel guiding us in it was straightforward. The entrance to the property is a little difficult with a very tight turn and anyone with a large vehicle will be challenged. It is set in a beautiful part of Portugal with easy access to the Douro valley and the city of Porto. Cheap and efficient local trains close by. We would highly recommend this place.

We were a family of 13, three generations - the youngest being 6 months old. We had plenty of room but as the weather was so good, we mainly lived outside on the veranda or down by the pool. There are a lot of steps which is not so toddler-friendly. The pool was much enjoyed by all, including the diving board. We used both bar-b-cues and the wood fired oven. Overall we had a really great holiday and the location was perfect. To add some constructive comments, there were a limited number of hopeless wine glasses on our arrival, but that was soon rectified after a trip to the Intermarche, so there are now plenty and they are a decent size! This is the Douro after all! The main kitchen sink is very small and was a constant frustration. The bedding quality generally was poor we felt - in the master bedroom, for instance, the two 4ft beds had cheap 4ft 6in 'fitted' bottom sheets which didn't fit of course. And the pillows were awful. For such a nice house, we would have expected better quality bedding. We were there two weeks but towels and sheets etc were not changed half way through. But we would definitely recommend it for a family group. At least one car is essential (we had two) and enjoyed the Douro valley, wineries, local markets and going to Porto on the train. And the pool of course, and the vinho verde and white port and tonic - try it, it's nice.

I booked this holiday over 12 months in advance and then worried if i had got it right-------.Boy did I, What a property.!!!! The photo's on the website do not do it justice.The whole farmhouse-kitchen,lounge, air conditioned bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms were clean and had everything you could need. Add a super pool,a very large games room and a beautiful and peaceful location with 2 BBQ area's-what more could you want.? It is a bit off the the beaten track so a car is a good idea to do the shopping. 9 adults and 5 children were on this holiday and not one complaint. The owners welcomed us and were there if you needed any information. Would I recommend it, yes without hesitation. We made out booking online from Australia having never visited Portugal before and I must say, much to our relief, we could not have made a better choice! We had an absolutely wonderful time here, the property offers everything you could want from ample accommodation, plenty of activities for the kids and space to stretch there legs and enjoy the outdoors! The owners of the property could not have been more accommodating and helpful both in person and with the information they provided about the local area! We loved the secluded and private nature of the home that also had excellent proximity to shopping and restaurants as well as access to Oporto for day trips. The kids loved the fruit bush's and tree's and spent hours foraging for figs, apples, grapes and berries. I could not speak more highly of the property for families and for groups of friends there are so many positives it is impossible to list them all and nothing to criticise... hopefully we will go back one day!!

As a large family group of varying ages, we have had the pleasure of holidaying in this villa for the last 5 years and are planning our 6th visit this summer. The place must obviously be special to make so many people happy year after year! Our days are spent by the pool or on the veranda, in sun or shade as needed. Alternatively, a walk in the gardens or in the local area with a stop at the village bar; where the price of drinks is remarkably cheap. If the weather is not so good, it is still nice to sit under the cover of the veranda, enjoying the peacefulness, or a visit downstairs to the games room to play pool, table football or table tennis. Come the evenings, it is beautiful to watch the sun setting over the hills to the west. It is then time for a BBQ, which is big enough to cook for everybody in one go. For days out, a visit to nearby Penafiel is always on our list. Alternatively, we always take the train to Porto. It is very easy and Porto station is very central. From here, it is a nice walk down to the river to take a boat trip or a walk across the bridge to visit the many Port Houses. I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa. The owner is very welcoming and extremely helpful with local information if required. We are looking forward enormously to our next visit.
