Zoe's Cabin is a lovely getaway in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The cabin has a lovely rustic charm. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen has most everything you need, and vibes overall are very relaxing. The backyard has a hammock and chairs to use to enjoy the view of the Sandy River. The part of the river you have access to maybe isn't the best for swimming as it's very rocky and the current moves by pretty fast. My only real complaint is that the water smells rusty and the shower is definitely outdated and doesn't get very hot. Besides that, it's a lovely place for a weekend getaway.

We spent three days for our anniversary and birthday at this cute little cabin and everything would’ve been perfect except for the water taste like rust and we couldn’t bathe in it because it made you smell like rust and your hair smell like rust and your skin was very itchy afterwards just from washing your hands in the water. This is a very big concern and I am going to reach out and ask for a discount due to the fact that Covid is serious and people need to be able to have clean body parts and brush their teeth safely. Also, there’s a club foot tub and the shower is in there but if you were a remotely elder or can’t lift your leg 2 1/2 feet over the cloud foot tub you can’t bathe. The view was gorgeous. The directions getting there awful and they send you to a dead end street. There’s no address posted on the building so we were like creepers walking up to peoples cabins seeing if we were out the right location. It’s very very confusing we drove in circles for like half hour.. The upstairs is completely dangerous. There’s no light in the hallway. The stairs are very steep and spaced apart. You could easily get your foot caught in between the steps. If you’re not careful I wouldn’t recommend going up and down those stairs by themselves.. another thing that was very disappointing and it’s one of the only things that we go to a cabin for is to enjoy a fireplace. Well, the fireplace was broken and it says bring your own wood so we loaded the car with a bunch of wood.😔 waste

The location in summer is a dream come true... The house is an historic Steiner Cabin - which is lovely... but very impractical when it comes to creature comforts. (no place to store clothes etc; lighting is terrible - bring a night light; since there is no dishwasher, it would be nice if there was a scrubby pad -instead of counter sponge to wash dishes; and stairs up to cute loft area are treacherous). However the location is divine and makes all inconveniences fade.

Quiet peaceful rustic cabin on the river. Just what we needed to get away from suburbia and our stressful jobs. We came for a peaceful weekend and to rejuvenate. We got just that!!! Love love love

I was so excited to take my best friend for a private weekend away in the woods! Cozy by a warm fire and just watch movies. I found out after booking that the fire place in the cabin was unusable, which is fine, they had a propane fire place to heat. When we arrived there was a giant note saying the propane fire place was not working due to a carbon monoxide leak (which was not communicated to me at all ahead of time). The cabin was FREEZING! The old school plug in wall heaters that they did leave, took over 8 hours to finally get the cabin to a decent temperature. We froze the first night and still woke up to a chilly cabin. We couldn’t even use the second bedroom because we had to prioritize which rooms to keep warm. I reached out immediately the first we realized this and it took hours for the team to respond and still never came back with a solution for me - even as I’m writing this as we are preparing to check out.
I wanted to love this cabin so much but the dirty mess and cobwebs, the old musty couch, just not ideal with the other issues we ran into. For the money we paid I am very disappointed in this experience and lack of follow through from the rental company in helping find any solutions.
Be warned before you rent this place and be sure the heat is working again!!
Saddened renter.

While the location of this cabin was in one of the most beautiful places on earth and the craftsmanship of the builder in 1939 was extraordinary, making it a wonderfully iconic place, the owner has done nothing to update the furniture, appliances, bathroom, rugs, or other fixtures to accommodate travelers staying in the cabin. It's cool to look at, as the photos show, but previous reviews have been too kind. We left after the first night, having booked for 5 nights. VACASA was informed early the morning after we arrived, and after multiple calls and texts, even a visit to their office in Portland, our concerns seem to have been totally dismissed. While their "brand" is impressive, their only responses seem computer driven or scripted assurances that their "team" is reviewing our concerns, without anyone from the team ever responding. I have no confidence in VACASA and would caution anyone booking through them believing they have genuine interest in or will give any attention to their customers.

Three things we liked:
It’s an absolutely adorable cabin in a perfect location. We loved hearing & seeing the river in the back. We were close to all the places we wanted to see around Mt. Hood: Ramona Falls, Mirror Lake, Wahkeena to Multnomah Falls Trail, Umbrella & Sahalie Falls, & Little Zigzag Falls.
We do all of our own meal prep on vacation, & the kitchen is adequate with almost all we needed to cook at “home” during our stay.
The bed was a memory foam mattress, which was very comfortable for us.
Three things that would have made our stay better:
Better directions to the cabin: Poor cell service interrupted our Google Maps near the cabin. We eventually found the community where the cabin was nestled but there was no house number by the “Zoe’s Cabin” sign. We didn’t even see the sign until the next day. We found the right cabin by going down too many wrong driveways & finally recognizing the cabin from the online pictures we saw when we chose the rental. It would be helpful to have a PDF map with distinct directions to print in advance AND have the house number somewhere on the property.
Safe drinking water: The water looks, smells, and tastes “rusty.” After the first sip, we decided that bottled water for drinking was a must. They should provide a Brita-type pitcher.
Screens in windows: We opened the tops of the doors, which are screened, but it wasn’t enough to cool the cabin, especially the bedroom. There are too many mosquitos to open unscreened windows.

The reason I booked this Cabin was the setting and it is beyond amazing with easy access to the river and set in the wonderful woods, with unobtrusive neighbors nearby.
The reasons I am disappointed is the water is terrible and smells of iron and rust. The bathroom tub is not usable and there is low water pressure in the shower anyway. The garbage situation was not possible for us to haul all that way up a gravel road.
There needs to be more screens and screen doors so that you can have ventilation in the bedrooms without the onslaught of mosquitoes. The stairs going up to the loft are really scary. Beautiful, artful and really scary, especially in the middle of the night when you need to use the bathroom. The only one is downstairs.
I just wish this beautiful cabin was just upgraded a bit more. I love the sound of the water and the setting.
Great TV and Wifi set up. The fireplace is wonderful.
Well equipped kitchen. Vintage curtains and art everywhere. So special and yet does not make up for the flaws.

Cozy secluded cabin with everything you need! Wonderful fireplace and a quick drive to Meadows. The cabin has plenty of plates, silverware, cooking ware, and whatever else you may need. The wifi was stable and fast. Overall a great stay!
Only con was the cabin was difficult to find at night. I would recommended finding it during the day.

Our family has a tradition of going to Zoe’s cabin every year. It is a very special place for us, and we love its charm. However, this year we noticed a high degree of uncleanliness. Floors were filthy… almost black when wiped with a paper towel. I grabbed a pan in the morning to make pancakes, and it was full of grease and food! We ended up going to the store and buying Dawn dish soap and washing every single cup and dish before use. There were utensils in the drawer that were greasy and clearly not washed. Food from previous guests in the drawers and crumbs in the bed. It was very disappointing. We came to relax and enjoy time with family and instead we had to spend time cleaning up.

Loved the beautiful woods around it and the river close by along with beautiful detailed wood inside of cabin but cabin was hard to find and beds left little to desire after tossing and turning all night because of how firm the mattresses were. Took us over 20 minutes to find the actual cabin once we got in the area. Both called and texted Vacasa to get help but no one answered and we were about to give up with no help. Luckily a local new which cabin and pointed us in the right direction. No address was even mentioned on the booking. Not very happy with Vacasa. Lacking quick service for people that need help locating their house in a hurry.

Let me just start by saying I truly do love Zoe‘s cabin. My now husband took me there nearly 15 years ago when we were just dating. We’ve been multiple times since and there’s always an air of calm and positivity about Zoe’s . Chance to disconnect from life and enjoy the peacefulness. Zoe‘s is in some dire need of some updates though for future guests:
** I realize this is not a cheap or easy thing to do or consider, but there needs to be some sort of filtration system even a Britta on the faucets would be something. Because of corrosion in the pipes over the years (I’m guessing )the water taste heavy of iron. So heavy that it’s impossible to drink, or for us to shower in and it will leave your dishes smelling as well . Unfortunately that really soured our stay luckily it was only two days but any longer I would suggest guests bring their own Britta pitcher and case of water.l, shower at your own risk.
I agree with some of the previous guests the stairs are a bit scary. I understand it’s not easy to fix them however those last four narrow curved steps absolutely could use some sort of an iron handle to make those twisty turns especially when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night a little safer; I don’t think it has anything to do with age I’m in great shape and 44 and it was even a bit hard for me to navigate. i’m glad they put a handle near the shower.. that tub is quite daunting to try and get into, and extremely tiny. I understand all of these are features of the home that have and in their forever but updates to the home in the future would be encouraged for safety and comfort of your guests.. but most importantly the water. It would be dangerous to drink that water for a long period of time any more than a few days. Would like to come to Zoës again in the future as it holds dear to our heart, I hope some changes will be made to keep Zoe‘s cabin both safe and comfortable for us and future guests so we can enjoy Zoe’s peacefulness for years to come.

It was very hard to locate the property there are no visible addresses. It was a rustic log cabin. The stairs are more difficult than appears in pictures. Loved the woods and the river view. The power went out Friday night. It was still out in the morning. We left around 9 am Saturday due to the power outage.

Overall a great cabin! I wanted to mention something about the house numbers not being visible from the road. We got to the cabin after dark and it took us 30 minutes to find the right house. The dark paneled Zoe’s cabin sign is not visible in the light. When we initially pulled into the driveway, we saw the two vehicles on the right hand side of the driveway and assumed it was lived in. I assume those belong to the owner. I called Vacasa and was close to tears when she gave us a pretty good description of the front door and we finally found the house. Glow in the dark numbers visible from the road also helps first responders find the house in times of emergencies. Specific directions would also help instead of just the address. Otherwise, we had a great time and it’s a beautiful cabin!

Our familie enjoyed this spot next to the Sandy river very very much. We had a relaxing 2 nights stay there

Cute rustic cabin, right on the river. Garbage day instructions need to be more clear - can goes out to corner of street, not just to end of drive. Tub/shower is tough to access - would live to see it replaced with regular shower stall. King bed in loft is dreamy.

It was the perfect Birthday Weekend getaway. We didnt have to travel far and the peace and tranquility were perfect. We live in the mountains so that was not much different, but to just relax without dogs barking or chores calling, it was delightful

Fantastic cabin
We had such a great time here! Spent most of our time down by the river or on the back porch.
The bathroom was the only disappointment, we each almost fell in the shower. But I understand you can't do much about that.
Overall we had a great time and would love to come back!

Rustic paradise
This little cabin is a majestic weekend waiting to happen. It took a little doing but we were able to toddler proof it, but we did bring our own baby fence for around the propane stove.

Charming, authentic museum-like rustic Mt Hood log cabin!
The place is simply amazing! A real log cabin, with wood everywhere. It’s like taking the Steiner Cabin Tour, and then getting to stay in one of them. It looks and feels like a museum of Mt Hood Cabins, complete with knickknacks and antiques. Not to mention the beautiful surroundings and the river.

Lovely time at Zoe’s Cabin
My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this wonderful cabin! I would recommend to all!

I absolutely love this cabin, but it has some scary draw backs. First, the stairs are treacherous! There is no railing on the last four steps when going down. This is the most dangerous part of the steps because they make a sudden angular turn and are very steep. This is not a kid safe or senior friendly cabin. Unfortunately, I feel down those last four steps and twisted my foot. There was no railing to grab for support. I banged the back of my head on the wood steps as well as bruised up my right side. This left my foot injured, swollen and sore and I was unable to use my new snowshoes as planned. Totally bummed me out. In addition, I would strongly recommend a grab bar or railing for the bathroom shower. The short, but tall clawfoot tub is not easy to get in and out of as it's quite high off the ground. The tub is too short to take a bath in, but works great as a shower. I would really recommend a grab bar for assistance for those over 50 or under 10. In addition, the throw rug in the bathroom is very slippery and one could seriously slip on it while getting in or out of the tub and get a bad head injury on that cast iron tub. Those are the two worries I had with this otherwise adorable cabin. I plead with the owner to fix those problems for fear of a much worse accident than mine. In fact, get rid of all the slippery throw rugs and use only throw rugs with a rubber backing. On the small side, a mixing bowl, a glass roasting pan and a pie plate and some tongs that work would be helpful for those of us who love to cook and bake and use the oven. I would replace the Coveted and only cast iron pan with a lodge pan that is replaceable and not a collector's item. For heavens sake, buy a $14 nonstick pan once a year for cooking eggs.
Aside from those items for improvement, the place was beautifully decorated and full of love and kindness. I would recommend to anyone, once those grab bars/railings were in place. My right foot is still black and blue and tender but I am grateful it was not any worse. Thank you for reading. I hope I do get a kind response because I would like to return there, once I knew the railings were installed.

Such a perfect location being so close to Mt Hood, waterfalls, and many other scenic views. Not mention the property is perfectly located next to a river, away from the road, and quiet neighborhood. Definitely would use Zoeys cabin again in the future.

Perfect cozy cabin for a family of 3
This place was a dream! It was so peaceful to be able to lay in a hammock and hear the river babble. The cabin is so cozy, and while a bit aging, has everything you would need. The location is also wonderful for adventuring in the Mount Hood area.

Cabin was adorable! The history of the cabin made it even more special. We sat outside every night and marvaled at the trees and listened to the river. We loved every minute we spent there.
