I've stayed in several homes on Waialea Bay and this is a great one -- clean and nicely appointed with everything you need. The lack of clutter is almost as soothing as the sound of the water lapping against the shore. It's a lovely house. And the location is unbeatable.

The vibe of this place was amazing: homey and tropical. The proximity to the beach was just incredible. Hearing the ocean, having the trade winds blow through the open windows, and taking a 2 minute walk to get to the beach made it hard to want to leave to explore. I can see why the property is hard to book and why it has so many repeat guests :)

We've stayed in Puako and on Waialea Bay for several years now and all agreed this is one of our favorite rentals. The house oozes classic Hawaiian charm. Traditional, not too fancy, clean and comfortable. Very well stocked amenities-wise. We are a family of 7 and felt the house fit us quite nicely. Loved waking up to the sound of birds and surf each day. The view of the ocean through the trees and the sound of the crashing waves helps give a beachfront feel without the exposure of actually being completely beachfront. Being able to feel like you have some privacy from the public beach goers was desirable for us. The side gate leading to the sand path to the beach gets you there in 20 seconds, so it was the best of both worlds. Plenty of beach paraphernalia in an outdoor closet available to borrow, as well as a fantastic outdoor shower to clean up after time on the shore. Mary at 2Papayas was wonderful and attentive. Would not hesitate to stay here again!

My family of five enjoyed this home so much—I can’t overstate how special the home and location are. The home is fully stocked and we were very comfortable cooking and enjoying the lanai and especially the outdoor shower. The real highlight is the beach—spending each morning watching the sun rise with coffee in hand then swimming, paddleboarding and snorkeling all day was remarkable. We also felt we were in close proximity to other awesome beaches. Thank you to Marley and Mary for helping us get organized with groceries and gear rental, hooking us up w a private chef one night, and answering countless emails with questions before our arrival.

Reviewer Comments: this property is like the photos except better. the best though is that a semi-private beach is right outside. it is a public beach but even on a Sunday it was easy to find our own spot. and there's shade on the beach! great for little kids. what I didn't like was the noise of the building going on next store. because a 2.5 year old was one of our group, we always were "home" in the middle of the day. the noise marred what would have otherwise been a perfect stay..

It was exactly what we were hoping for. The house is fully stocked has everything you need. All the appliances were new and clean, even the light/fan switches/outlets looked newly replaced and clean. What you would hope for during a pandemic. Location is perfect, the beach is beautiful and amazing snorkling. The only downfall, which is no fault of the property itself, is while the house is on a private street with gated entry the beach is public. The early mornings and late afternoon/sunset are quiet, you only meet you neighbors at a distance. However if you don't claim your spot on the beach by 8am you will be overrun by the masses coming in from the general parking at the other end of the cove. There were only a couple of nights we had to deal with beer drinking and loud music. Its all managable, just a little disapointing considering how much it costs to be in this location.

Always great

This is an ideal location steps from an ideal beach. We had a lovely stay in this very comfortable home outfitted with everything you need for a nice stay. I especially enjoyed the peaceful morning and evening times when it would seem we had the beach all to ourselves. The property management company was very responsive but we never had any reason to call them, everything was in order and clear instructions and information were provided in the book. Loved every minute and I look forward to a chance to return. Mahalo!

great beach cabin

Just wow!!! We absolutely loved our visit! What a wonderful home, beautifully crafted, great kitchen, comfortable lodgings and the most incredible setting. Mary and her staff are very attentive, met us upon arrival, checked in throughout our visit and made the check out a breeze. Great quiet beach, great snorkeling and paddle boarding too. This is now our favorite place!! Thank you and we will see you again!

Wonderful house. The beach is just a minute walk away and it’s by far the best beach on the Big Island! The owners are very attentive! The only downside is that the land surrounded the property is dry but the property is beautiful!

We stayed in the Ulu Niu property and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We toured around the island quite a lot and saw a great many wonderful things, but the beach we had access to was among the nicest we saw anywhere. The folks at 2 Papayas were great and we felt quite at home.

Great place to stay. We were there for a week. Saw Manta Rays and turtles in the bay directly in front of the rental home. Clean,fun place to stay. Best spot on the beach. We will be back often

My family ( 2 daughters, son in law and two year old grandson) was on the big Island for a wedding. My daughter and her husband and toddler stayed in the lower apartment. The house was very clean and well stocked. We loved the house!! It was steps to the beach. The house had everything you would need to go to the beach, chairs etc. The property manager was very helpful. She had a few groceries delivered so we would be able to have breakfast in the morning. We will be definitely be coming back in the future!

This house is very charming and the location is AMAZING! Steps to the beach! We stayed here as a family of 4 (2 adults, 11 year old and 14 year old) for 9 days. The house was very clean and had everything we needed including beach chairs, coolers, etc. The kitchen was fully equipped. We were here mid July - no AC - but, the breeze off the ocean was almost always enough air for us. The bathrooms could use updating but certainly weren't spending our time in the bathroom! When the guys would go diving, it was very safe and very easy for my daughter and I to just hang out on the beach and in the house. When our teenage son decided he would be lazy, he just stayed in the house and we were steps away loving the beach and water. We enjoyed the open concept kitchen and living area as a family and loved the lanai for meals and just relaxing. The location in Puako is amazing and the sandy beach was pretty quiet (on our end in front of the house) even though it is a public beach. Snorkeling and swimming, stand up paddle boarding were great right off the beach. The outdoor shower was a great feature, too. Parking, a clothes line for scuba stuff and towels, the list goes on with the details to make our life easy. I am a total snob about accommodations and I was in love with the charm of this house. It's not "fancy", but, it is awesome! I would stay here again in a heart beat! Also, the booking agent was beyond wonderful and friendly and helpful. If you get a chance to stay here, go for it!

Since 1950 I have visited Hawaii many times. My favorite will always be Puaco. We have enjoyed Honu, Kolea, and Ulu Niu. These homes are comfortable; clean and well stocked with what a family needs. The privacy and quiet surroundings are very special. The beach is more crowded than earlier visits, but still very wonderful. My thanks for your care of these homes. Being able to live so peacefully in a popular place like Hawaii is a real privilege.

The house itself was fine. Nothing special. Just a great rustic beach house. What was amazing was the location. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. The beach is small, with shade and a rope swing and a lovely little coral reef. So lovely to wake up first thing in the morning and go snorkeling. Not a lot of great food nearby. We ate at the taco & burger place a bunch, which was fine. And we cooked at Ulu Niu, which was also fine.
