Basic, but good cheap accommodation

The beach is one of the best in the area to swim and even with high tides you can access it. There are beautiful natural pools on the left side of the beach that are open and free during weekdays. You can easily access to fruit, vegetables, bread and the local shop in the street have all the very basics (toiletries, food, drinks etc) and there is Carolina, that prepares amazing pupusas and other food every day. You can reach El Zonte in 5 Min and El Tunco in 30 Min hitching or by bus.
Good atmosphere even with other travellers!
The cooker was not cleaned often and sometimes resulted dirty. When I was sleeping in the upper bed it was quite dusty, probably falling from the ceiling.
The fans are a bit noisy, but at least there is one per bed and everyone can adjust it.

Amazing hostel right near el palmarcito beach. Great pool and excellent kitchen facilities. The owners live on the property with their two daughters which means it's always really well kept. They have recently renovated one dorm (currently doing the other) which is amazing! It has a strong personal fan for each bed and large locker space - we had the best sleep we've had in central America for a non-aircon accommodation. Beach is 200m away and ideally for non-surfers there's natural pools there (free to use during the week). Pupuserias within walking distance and whilst no nearby fresh food there's morning delivery trucks that pass by. Cannot recommend enough!

We had one of our nicest stays here! It's a quirky place so if you want hotel quality, don't come here, but if you are after a wonderful, social time (not party!) to chill and surf, this is your spot.
The owners were super nice, loved their story and learned a lot from El Salvador from them.
It's not by the main surf spot or shops, so prepare to be moving around with buses/hitchhiking and to do your groceries from the morning grocery van and cook yourself. Also, bring mosquito spray, very important!

I booked this hostel because I didn’t want to stay in el tunco on a Saturday night. However, when I got to this hostel , I started to wish I had spent the extra money to stay in a hostel in el tunco. The hostel was dirty, the bathroom was very basic and also unclean. Most importantly, the kitchen was very gross. The stove was covered with leftover food and stains, the counter was dirty, and overall I felt like I couldn’t

The place has a nice set up and is nested away on a beautifull piece of land where you are surrounded by lush green! The kitchen is great and fully equiped. The room is big and the bed comfy. The owners are very friendly. You are less then 5 minutes of walking away from a nice beach! Good wifi.
The bathroom was not oke. It was super dirty, sandy, hair, stink, dirty stains and what not. It is a shared bathroom with 2 other people so it should in my opinion be checked every day (trash new toiletpaper etc) but we ran out of toiletpaper and the trashcan was overly full. The shower itself was a total joke, the head was so blocked by corrosion so it only let out a handfull of water beams. My pee has more pressure then this shower. The other bathroom that belongs to the dorm is just as bad! So we decided to wash our hair under the outdoor shower by the pool. The kitchen is also not very clean. And the room as well, not very clean, long hairs by the window, stains on the floor etc.
Then the nights. The rooms are sort of open at the top so connect directly with the outside. This means musquitos and other bugs. There is no musquito net around the bed and the fan is to high up to keep them away. Not good. Then the noises. The location is super close to the big road and big very loud trucks drive pass late in the evening and early morning, no way you can sleep through that. And then there is also dogs barking and roosters and other animals keeping you awake. There is just 0 insulation from the outside.

I did like the overall price at 14 dollars a night, but believe me you can find much better places for only 6 dollars a night more in El Tunco. I did like the owner's wife she was super nice and could carry a conversation. The owner was kinda strange and didn't seem very open to suggestions on how to remodel the place, but overall he wasn't terrible. I think it must've just been a cultural difference maybe. Americans are usually seen as the dumbasses to other countries, so this make sense in hindsight.
The owner seemed like he was sketched out by our presence...he wasn't very friendly until we paid. We were thinking we were staying in El Zonte, but in fact it was El Parma..a small town outside of El Zonte that isn't recognized by Booking.coms website. We were ok with it, the people there were completely fine. They were also young travelers who you could tell wanted a very cheap cost of living. A couple of the guys were working on the property in exchange for stay.

Mark and Xenia were wonderful hosts. If you are looking for an immersive experience of Living like a beach local in a small Village, Hammock Plantation wins. The opportunity to meet new people opens your mind to new ideas. I love the fact that because the lodging is so inexpensive you have extra money to try new things. Tucked away in the village of El Palmarcito, Hammock Plantation is away from all the "touristy" areas but still close enough to easily travel and visit.
Mark and Xenia will take the time to show you all the cool things there are to do in the area and also which areas to stay away from. They already know where to rent the most inexpensive cars so you can broaden your travels. They are knowledgeable about the bus and ferry routes, campsites, and other hostels all across the country so you can explore el Salvador cheaply and safely.
The location wins! Two hundred Meters from la Playa del Palmarcito, you are mere steps away from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, and I live in Florida! Just step out of the front gate and turn right and you find a quiet undisturbed beach with cool outoor restaurants and bars that the locals frequent. It gets a little crowded on Saturday nights but I really enjoyed mixing with the locals and learning about the culture.
When you get to the beach, take a stroll to your left and cross a tiny creek (You might have to wade across!) you will find some steps that lead up to thetidal pools. These are reinforced swimming pools that are filled by the large waves of the pacific Ocean as they crash into the rocks. Two levels are available if the waves get too large at the lower pool you can go to the upper one. It is only open on the weekdays because it is owned by the resort on top of the cliff that overlooks it. They charge $25 a day to use it on the weekends if you are not a guest at the resort on the cliff. But they will let you walk around the resort on the weekdays.
To the right, The beach is private but it is a short bus ride or hike to the world famous Bitcoin Beach also known as El Zonte. Currently, there is a lot of construction going on in El Zonte. This can make it difficult to travel the muddy roads there by car. However, I expect by this time next year El Zonte's Streets will be complete and rival that of El Tunco, a beach with a more touristy and surfer vibe just east of Hammock Plantation.
Because it is a small, family run hostel, Mark and Xenia are constantly having to upgrade their accomadations themselves. That means sometimes you might be inconvenieced by these upgrades. But for the price you can't expect the Taj Majal. Future improivements include bathroom upgrades, painting, and Mark plans to restart his diving adventure in La Libertad. I can't wait to see how much they can improve by the time I visit again. They have become my extended family in el Salvador. Despite the need for upgrades, the immersive cultural experience will make you want to come back. The price will lead you in. The experience of living like a local and having a built in family will keep you coming back.

This hostel felt more like a family stay for me and I loved it! Marc, Xenia and the two girls are just so welcoming, warmhearted and living there for 3 nights has been such a nice start to explore El Salvador.
The location is perfect if you are looking for a more quiet and not so touristic place, has a wonderful beach with natural pools and it is also a good surfing spot!
Drinking water has been provided, the family is sharing their coffee with you and the kitchen is equipped. My bed was very comfortable as well!
I just simply loved it here and if I come back to the area I will definitely book some nights at the Hammock plantation again! Thanks Marc, Xenia, Femca, Ninca (not sure if this the correct way of writing your names girls ;)) and all those cute kittens for sharing your wonderful home with me!
I would only recommend buying some of the most basic groceries already upfront because there is only a small shop closeby and a vegetable/fruit car passing in the mornings :)

A few mosquitos.

Nice hosts!
The place is run down, the pool is dirty and the rooms are super basic. There are massive openings to the outside, so all sort of insects are entering and starting 4am it sounds like a zoo is attacking the place 😄
If all of that would’ve been for a appropriate price I wouldn’t mind, but charging 30usd for this room is heavily overpriced!!
We had friends staying there during COVID and they had such a good time there and after checking back at them regarding the price they told me it was 4€ for the same room. Of course, now that tourism is increasing again they raise the prices, but this one is definitely pushing it way to far!

The staff was very friendly and greeted us as we entered. The room was very clean and bed extremely comfortable. The facility was well maintained, the pool was refreshing and the communal kitchen was nice. The proximity to the beach was superb and located near restaurants
During my stay i had an issue with the restroom. The restroom was shared with the another room and it was located between us. Everytime you used the restroom the door connected to each room had to be locked, which is fine. The problem is during my 2 night stay the other room continuously forgot to unlock my end of the bathroom which left me waiting to see if they were finished only to realize multiple times that they just forgot to unlock my side of the door. I brought this issue up with one of the owners and he only said "this happens sometimes" It wasn't until checkout that he told me how the door can be unlocked from the outside. The owners should share this information upon check in or put signs on the bathroom doors that say "please make sure both doors are unlocked. This was the only issue I encountered but a very annoying one. Also to note this hostal is located on Playa Palmarcito, if you are looking for a relaxing stay or have a car this is perfect. Otherwise you will be taking the bus to busier beaches, which is very doable but something worth noting

Great location and very nice owners. Very laid back feel to the entire hostel, which makes sense given that it is a beach area.
Should look into mosquito nets for the beds.

Lovely quiet location and chilled vibe in the hostel.
Mosquito nets around the beds would be a useful addition!

Owners were very welcoming and location was perfect.
Cleanliness could be improved especially in the kitchen. Bedroom wasnt private enough, the walls at the top are open so you can hear other people in their rooms or in the bathroom. Also this meant quite alot of bugs could get in.

I love this place! A few meters from the most beautiful beache in El Salvador. The hostel is run by a great family. The hostel has a great kitchen, a big swimmingpool, and always good vibes with the guests. Can't say anything about the beds since I always slept in a hamock.

It was cheap, and the staff spoke English very well
The bathroom, the location, the hygiene, besides that it was cheap I really don't get why this place is rated so high. We had a bed and a shared bathroom in the middle of nowhere and that was that...

The Hammock Plantation is a lovely and small hostel placed few hundred meters to Playa Palmarcito. It’s located just in between busy El Tunco and chilled El Zonte. So it is perfect for local feels and relaxing. I loved that it is family owned and that you instantly feel home. Marc and his family has been extremely welcoming and helpful with everything. I can highly recommend you staying here!
