Not only was the property a slice of history, it was quiet and secluded enough that we felt like we had the area to ourselves. Perfect for a reunion trip with life-long friends. Nathaniel made us feel like we were truly guests in his home - welcoming us to enjoy the amenities as if we had known him personally.
The kitchen was well-appointed, so, based on great recommendations from Nathaniel, we sourced most of our meals from local farm stands and spent time cooking and taking in the sunset from the large deck. We walked the shore to Menemsha Beach, took in the sites of the various other towns, went to the Alpaca Farm, etc. enjoying each for its different experience.
There were five of us and we each, except for two twins in one room, had a private space. The garage was available for storing my bikes when it rained. When it turned cold & blustery for one evening, we made use of the fireplace and our comfort was never compromised.
I can see why this is often booked so far in advance with repeat customers. We wanted for nothing all week. Thank you!

Our stay could not have been more perfect. The owners pre stay communication was excellent. During our stay he was available (via text) to answer any questions we might have. An excellent cottage information package was provided provided as soon as we booked our stay and was very helpful in explaining the cottage features and history as well as a helpful list of area hikes and activities.
We LOVED the cottage! The owner has taken great care to sympathetically renovate the cottage. The living room was choc-a-block full of character. A noteworthy feature was the fireplace in both the living room and the kitchen. The deck was spacious and the view was spectacular.
There are two nearby fish markets. We had fabulous fresh fish each evening. We had an accomplished cook in our group and she found everything needed to prepare memorable meals. We also enjoyed the Webber grill.
We would return in a heartbeat!

My family and I had a fantastic stay at the house. It was beautiful (with amazing sunsets and a fun winding trail to the beach), clean, and in a quiet location though accessible to many things. The owner was always available to connect to answer any questions we had in advance of our trip and while we stayed at the house. We will recommend this house to our friends and try to come back as well!

While there are enough beds for more, my husband and I found the cottage perfect for the two of us. The owner quickly responded to any questions we had and we found the house really nicely equipped.

Beautiful, off-season stay. Quiet, charming, great sunsets overlooking the water. Loved the quiet during Spring. Perfect affordable getaway.

Nathaniel was the perfect host. It was our first visit to Martha’s Vineyard. Everything as described except exceeded expectations by 10X. Access to all the islands delights. Everything is provided Kitchen is perfect for in house meals. We especially appreciated the opportunity to bring our two well behaved dogs. We understand why you fall in love with this place!

A perfect, relaxing week on the quieter part of Martha's Vineyard. The cottage was exactly as described. Quaint, clean, stocked with everything you could need. We spent most of our time on the deck, as the weather was beautiful and the view/outdoor space was breathtaking.

Quaint classic vineyard property with a spectacular view from a wonderful deck. Can't say enough about the sunsets while eating dinner outside. The cottage was very clean and well stocked. Plenty of space for a family to use as a home base while exploring the island. Have been coming to the Vineyard for years and definitely will come back to this place.

A charming house filled with lots of character and history. Breathtaking views, only add to this quiet and peaceful location. Breakfast on the deck each morning and cozy fires in the stone fireplace each night, make the experience complete. Owners were very responsive with questions, and helpful with entire process. Thank you Nathaniel. We will always have beautiful memories of this special place.

Absolutely wonderful experience from beginning to end! I’ve never rented a house with such a perfect view, privacy, a perfect combination of historic, yet updated, and so well stocked (kitchen, paper products, toiletries, towels, etc.). The owner was very easily accessible by phone, and was eager to make sure the house was the right fit for my group. I’d stay every weekend if I could!

Menucha is a quaint, lovingly maintained summer cottage with a view that can’t be beat.

Its actually funny, the photos do not do justice of the house. Beyond the indescribable deck on the house- the house has so much character and is lovely to stay in. Thank you for the wonderful vacation property.

Nicely nestled in the woods with stunning views from every room and a spectacular sunset deck that will knock your flip flops off, you will find it very difficult to ever venture far from this impeccably finished homestead. It’s hard to imagine a more idyllic location or a more charming and tasteful “back to basics“ island cottage - replete with outdoor shower. Hit the trail and stroll down to the beach for an afternoon swim or hop on a bike and pedal down the road to Menemsha for seafood right off the boat. Fine restaurants, general stores, the farmers market - everything is within easy reach. With hosts who attend to every detail, we hope to visit again for a third year!

My family has stayed here three times and all of the reviews are completely accurate. The views are amazing. The cottage has everything you need. The location is great and the property is very secluded. The owners are so nice and enjoyable to deal with. If you're looking for someplace fancy, this isn't it. If you're looking for a great location with tons of character, there isn't any place better.

We had a lovely week in early June in this comfortable, well equipped cottage. We particularly enjoyed the private setting, charming decor, beautiful deck and panoramic views of Vineyard Sound and Menemsha. We took great advantage of the copies of the trail maps and guides and took hikes, mostly in Chilmark, which were fantastic. This part of the island is special and we hope to return.

My family has stayed here two summers in a row. We really just can't get enough of this wonderful, historic home, owned by a kind and attentive family. I could never tire of having morning coffee on the deck with a dramatic ocean view expanding before my eyes, the soothing sounds of the bell buoy and fishing boats driving into Menemsha with their hauls of fresh, delicious seafood. I could never get enough of the spectacular sunset over the ocean, replete with applause from the people down at the town beach, a short walk away. The house is quiet, sun dappled, well-stocked, and clean. The location is hard to beat; it is a special place. We will come back here whenever we can.

The views are not oversell. The place is just the perfect New England get away, quiet and beautiful. We were more than happy. Would return in a heartbeat!

Stayed in this house with seven adults - six would be most comfortable, but we made it work easily. House has a great, old beachy feel - no frills, but very cozy, authentic vacation home. Most noteworthy is the absolutely incredible panoramic view of the water. Also has it's own path down to the beach. We had a fantastic time, and would love to stay in this house again.

The property was exactly what we dreamed of, a quintessential Vineyard up island house. Gorgeous sunset views, a quick walk down to the beach, near wonderful restaurants. But with a secluded, private feel. Five of us fit comfortably in the three bedrooms. And we had an extra person come over the weekend who used the sleeping loft.
It's a summer camp, beautifully maintained, full of charm and personality. We loved the outdoor shower, the comfy couches, the fireplace. Would go back any time.

This is a great house. I had a perfect stay in the summer. The views of Menemsha are fantastic, the house is classy and super comfy. A stroll in the beach away from Menemsha--for fresh fish and great food. My kid loved how close we were to the beach.

We've hesitated to write a review of this perfect gem of a place. We've been spending time there for several years in a row, and fear a review will only mean it will be even more difficult to get in next year. But potential renters deserve to know how special it is.
If you're looking for Beverly Hills at the beach, this is not the house for you. You won't find fancy bathroom fixtures, expensive carpeting, or glitzy, luxury finishes here. The house is flooded with light, sparkling clean, extremely comfortable, peaceful, well maintained, and charmingly well-appointed -- one of the owners' delightful touches is a school of ceramic fish swimming around the cathedral ceiling in the living room. To our great delight, it retains all the lovely simplicity of a summer cottage of the 1920s. But not just any beach cottage: this place has one of the most beautiful views on the Vineyard or anywhere else, overlooking the Sound, and extending out across the Elizabeth Islands to the mainland. Sunset is daily celebration as you sit on the deck and take in the ever-changing magnificence of the sky. To buy fish for dinner at Larson's in Menemsha, you can simply take the beach path down to the Sound, and enjoy a relaxing 15-minute stroll along the shoreline to the village.
The listing photos, beautiful as they are, barely do the place justice and can't possibly convey the way the distant ring of the bell buoy in Menemsha harbor occasionally drifts up on the breeze -- nothing is more relaxing than that sound! When we've been fortunate enough to spend time here in June or September (the very best months on the Vineyard), we've enjoyed crackling fires in the two fireplaces as we watch the morning clouds burn off. The owners put a lot of thought and care into the house, and every year they add something -- a new work of art on the wall, something different in the garden. We've never had trouble with the wi-fi, and the new cell signal availability in Menemsha this summer meant we were even able to use our cell phones there without a problem. This place has all the modern conveniences we could want, while at the same time retaining a heartwarming old-fashioned feeling of family and community life on the Vineyard.
