Great place to spend a week with family. Had everything we needed. Was a short walk to the beach. Beautiful lakeside location.

Pros: close walk to the beach. Close to Food Lion and other stores. Good space in the house. Cons: I'm not sure what is stipulated to be cleaned by the professional cleaners, but they may need to expand to more areas of the home, or they need to do a better job. The ceiling fans all had a layer of dust visible that would have accumulated over months, versus days. And the fans were very wobbly when in use.. One bathroom had a layer of dust where the tile meets the wall. It is bring your own linens, but I think you should be your own everything. Two of the mattress pads were visibly dirty, and so I laundered them on a rival. I did not use the blankets provided. Some of the wooden chairs on the decks showed signs of weather rot and seemed unstable. The outdoor screened area had a door with no screen and the screens in the windows were torn away in some places. The TV in the one master allows for connection to Netflix, but the main living room doesn't, so you have to watch DVD or VHS. The cable is a very basic package. There is a vacuum for guests to use but we found it to have inadequate suction. Overall, this house could be nice, but it needs some updating and a thorough cleaning. Also,, the body of water in the back has alligators in it. This can be expected in the South, but it should be mentioned as some people may have their child kayak on the water.

We stayed at this house the year before, and immediately wanted to book it again. The house is great; clean and air-conditioned and well-stocked. It's right on the bay (or some body of water), which means when you sit out on the balcony at night you get the breeze and almost no mosquitos. The location is a few steps from the beach and right next to the grocery store and dollar store for all your vacation needs. Glen is an excellent host and knows how to respond to your text messages, and the check-in was super easy. Highly recommend this house... especially for families!

We had a fantastic stay. Glen is a terrific host. Close to beach, fantastic fireworks, AC worked perfectly, pool passes included plus a great view. We will be back!

We loved everything about this house! Great location! Walking distance to everything! Wonderful community pool. The manager responded quickly and referred someone to help us and she was amazing! Remember to bring your bug spray. Loved the kayak on the lake. Beautiful sunsets!

We just returned from our amazing vacation at Glen's beach house (Four adults and four young kids). The house was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The central-air worked perfectly, and the house had everything we needed. It was footsteps from the beach, and just next door to the grocery store and community pool. At night we sat on the deck overlooking the bay, which had a lovely breeze and no mosquitoes! Glen was very responsive in answering any questions we had. I would definitely rent this house again!

The third floor living is a bit of a chore when first settling in for someone not used to stairs at all lol. Plenty of space for everyone and would highly recommend.

We enjoyed the short walk to Duck Donuts, and to the beach. The kitchen had enough stuff to make family dinners easily, though we still brought our own spices and a couple kitchen knives. We made frequent use of the community pool, which was a huge bonus! The house was more than big enough for us two adults and our 6 kids.

The property was located nicely. Beach was in walking distance and drive-on location was within a mile. The grocery store being less than a mile away was nice as well. Property was clean and the amenities fit our needs perfectly.

We absolutely loved our stay at Surfdancer! The house was well appointed and was perfect for our family of 5 adults and our four year old niece. The location of the house is wonderful, the neighborhood was quiet yet it was still close to everything we needed (beach, grocery store, restaurants, etc). The neighborhood amenities were great, we really enjoyed the pool and the access to the little lake behind the house. Fair warning, if you plan on kayaking on the pond or fishing off of the dock in the back you need to bring strong bug spray. My husband and I got some of the worst mosquito bites we’ve ever had because we made the mistake of going to the dock without any bug spray on. The sunsets were one of the highlights of our day every day, truly gorgeous! Overall we would absolutely rent this house again! Thanks for an absolutely amazing stay!

Great vacation house. Glenn was very responsive with any questions we had. I was worried about the proximity to the beach since it was on the bay side but the walk was very easy and short. I would rent this house again for our vacation.

Everything was clean and in excellent working order. Location was good with easy walk to shopping and beach. Glen was quick to answer any questions and was great with advice for the area. Will definitely return!

First, Glen was great to work with. Very responsive, accessible and friendly. Second house has a lovely setting. Location is convenient to numerous beaches and activities. Only critique is house needs a little upkeep. Overall highly recommend.

We were a family of 8 - 7 adults and 1 toddler. We all enjoyed our stay so much! The house was clean and well-equipped for cooking meals each night. We used the grill a lot. The huge dining table was perfect. We were all comfortable sleeping. Our son used the kayak on the lake. We absolutely loved the gorgeous view from the deck. I'd say possibly the best aspect of this house is the fact that it is on the lake and is wooded and feels very private and has the gorgeous view off the deck which made it feel like a retreat. It was also very quiet and peaceful. That, and the location.... a quick, pleasant 4-minute walk to the beach, and so close to stores and the community pool. You could actually walk to the community pool if you wanted to. Also it was close to the rest of Hatteras Island to the south, which we explored a lot....Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras. Such a beautiful area! There is a beautiful sound beach a few minutes away with calm waters for children...and we adults enjoyed it as well. We usually drove to the lifeguard beach in Buxton for swimming because we felt safer with a lifeguard with the strong undertow and waves. But all the beaches were gorgeous, including the one near the house! We had a fire on this beach one evening which was so fun. We spent most of our evenings on the deck. I meditated and did yoga on the deck each morning. We used the beautiful, large, clean community pool every day, often twice a day, in the morning after the beach and again in the afternoon or early evening. It is open until 7pm. The fish market close by was nice to have. I recommend you go down to the beach across from the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras... it was our favorite beach and absolutely gorgeous with beautiful blue water! We swam here even though there was no lifeguard. And it is just a beautiful drive down there and felt so otherworldly. I would definitely come back to Avon and would stay at this home again. We had one issue with the dishwasher and Glen had it fixed immediately and was in close communication about it. Communication with him was very good and prompt from beginning to end of the experience and he inquired about our safe arrival and whether we needed anything when we arrived and was a very good host. He does need to get a recycling bin at the house for guests so they don't have to drive their recyclables to Buxton. It is so important to recycle and that convenience should be provided.
