Property is in an amazing location. Very close to the beach, other restaurants and the freeway. Plenty on space for my wife and I and we couldn’t be happier with our visit. Would definitely recommend and return.

Great location. Plenty of room. Plenty of parking. Lovely backyard in which to contemplate the universe. Used great kitchen to cook a months worth of daughters favorite home cooked food. Joyce (owner/hostess) was lovely. Coming back in two months for another visit.

Nice and clean and close to the ocean

Perfect location for surfing and my son’s wedding events. The cottage was large enough for our family of 5 with plenty of parking area. My son was able to surf before his wedding, great fun!

This lovely placed was steps away from the beach. Inside a private gate. Our host Joyce was delightful to talk with. 2 Bedrooms upstairs with daybed. Well stocked and everything you need in the kitchen. 3 Bathrooms. Very safe for your La Jolla vacation.

Our family of 3 adults stayed at this property for 3 weeks and we loved it! The location is perfect--we enjoyed walking into town and the short walk to the beach, and it was a convenient drive to everywhere. The house is very comfortable and well-stocked and the owner is a warm and lovely woman. By the end of 3 weeks we felt like we lived there and were sad to check out. We highly recommend this property and we plan to rent it again in the future. Also, it was an excellent value for the price.

This home is conveniently located one block from the beach, and across the street from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD; just a short walk to the Scripp's Pier, or to Caroline's Seaside Cafe (on campus) for breakfast/lunch with stunning ocean views. The property is quiet, making it easy to sleep in/work remotely (if that's your thing); even has a koi pond in the back garden. The inside, though furnished with outdated and sometimes mismatched furniture, is very clean, with comfortable bed and fresh, white linens and towels. Was perfect for our extended family of 5-6 guests. Although the property owner lives there, we never saw her; and she is not the property manager. The rental is a separate unit on the back of the property, with its own outdoor parking (room for 2 vehicles); no ocean view from the back unit. If you like (very) long walks on the beach (we walked every day to La Jolla Cove; about 4.5 miles round trip), surfing, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, open water swimming, snorkeling, or beach play, this is your home away from home. The entire shoreline is part of the Matlahuayl Marine Reserve (also called the La Jolla Underwater Park), and there is an abundance of sea lions, seals, garabaldi, guitar fish, leopard sharks, sea bass, and ever some tide pools to explore at low tide. The Birch Aquarium, a short uphill drive from the property, is also a fun excursion. Would definitely stay at this property again. Highly recommend.

Charming little place, surprisingly spacious and located just catty-corner from Scripps. It is not a detached dwelling; it is connected to the front house, and this made me a little hesitant to play the piano. But Joyce, my charming host, told me not to worry at all about the noise. Very quiet, and in the front upstairs bedroom you can hear the sound of the ocean at night.

For starters, the location was perfect ..the picture on the website reflects exactly what we expected--across the street from the beach for great walking. The weather was still cool so no swimming but we're sure that in the summer this would be fantastic. The accommodations were wonderful for us. The kitchen was clean and well equipped for those wanting to prepare meals at home--which we did--with many grocery stores a drive away. The master bedroom had a very comfortable bed with attached bathroom and the one guest bedroom's bed was also comfortable and across the hall from a 2nd bathroom. Our daughters' visits overlapped and the sleeper couch in the 2nd floor living area which had to be used was not that comfortable however. Our host Joyce was delightful. She was available if we needed any questions answered and stopped in for a visit to talk about her life in the area. We would certainly return here when we come for our next visit!

We were there for a wedding followed by a short vacation. The location was excellent as all wedding events were in the La Jolla area. Played Torrey Pines, less than a 10 minute drive away. The house was just as advertised; the gated property provided a welcome level of security. We left the windows open all the time. Had to use the heat one morning (closed the windows, of course), but otherwise the weather was great. One word of caution, the water is extremely hot even though it took a while to get to the sink. (A sign should be posted to warm guests). Judy was very helpful when we needed a light bulb changed. Our friend has a knee replacement coming up a few days after the trip, she loved the chair lift on the stairs. The beach is one block away and Caroline's has a great breakfast on the beach. Don't know if we'll ever get back to the area again, but would definitely stay here again. Thanks.

We just spent a week at Joyce's cottage and had a wonderful time. The house itself is roomy. The bedrooms are big and the living room, dining room and kitchen area are spacious too. The house is in a great location. Everything we went to was no more than a 20 minute drive - Balbo Park, Solana Beach, Old Town are just a few examples. Ralphs and Trader Joes are near by and best of all the beach is just across the street! The kitchen had what we needed to do a little cooking. To the previous reviewer... it very clearly states in the description that the bedrooms are upstairs and there is even a chair lift should someone be unable to manage the stairs, so I am not sure why you were surprised by this and so disappointed in your stay. We did eat at Caroline's and while it is convenient, there are many other restaurants we liked better in walking distance just off the beach and near the park.

We attended a family wedding at the Scripps center. The location of our Vrbo was perfect!

Our visit to LaJolla was for a wedding. There was no mention that the unit is two story. Three of the five were 75 plus years old, would not have rented if known was 2 story. Another party had had 4 back surgeries, again would never have rented a two story. The day bed was too small for the fifth guest, who fortunately for him was only there one night. As we were there for a wedding, we needed to touch up the mens shirts with an iron, the ironing board cover was trash. Absolutely no padding left, when the iron touched the black shirt, it left triangle marks from the frame. Used a towel for padding, but ruined the shirt for the wedding. Cost of shirt was $80.00. Good grief buy an new ironing pad and cover. The bushes need to be trimmed back on the street as they block the view of on coming traffic as you exit the property . This is a serious safety hazard!!!! The landscaping needs some personal maintenance and clean up. The tree branches would have scratched the top of our two trucks had we not checked for clearance first. And lastly, and no real inconvenience, there was no dish cloth for washing the dishes, we used a paper towel. When you ask someone to do something it only makes sense that supplies should be available to complete the task. This was our first stay at a private owner vacation home. The convenience of family in the same house really was convenient compared to 3 hotel rooms. I would consider staying VRBO again, however not here.

Great location, spacious cottage

Such a beautiful place and a great location so cute with lots of antique furniture The only thing we wish the outdoor chairs were clean so we could sit outside.

The purpose of our visit was to spend time with our three daughters who live in San Diego. We can't stay at their small apartment - the cottage provided a place for all of us to spend time together and have space when we needed it. I gave the cottage a 4 rating due to the fact that their were not enough living room chairs for everyone to sit comfortably. The couch was close to the TV and at an odd angle so sitting together in the evening watching a movie wasn't the most comfortable for everyone. Also the saucepans and utensils in the kitchen were a little inadequate for a group who planned to cook together. Overall a very nice stay.

This VRBO has an awesome location, just steps away from the ocean. The house in incredibly clean and the owner is very accommodating. I fully recommend this house and when I come back to San Diego would love to stay here again.

The rental cottage in La Jolla was very clean inside. A full kitchen (all appliances worked very well) and sizeable dining table. The living room furniture was less desirable, uncomfortable and could use an update on cushions. A washer/dryer were a plus to have on premise. Three full baths, but not enough washcloths for our 9 day stay (we bought a six pack and left them there). The outside of property was a bit overgrown for our liking, so we didn't use it at all during our 9 day stay. Rental property is across street from the beach and just a very short walk to Caroline's Cafe at the beach, which we enjoyed the views while having breakfast. Rental property is conveniently located, within driving distance, to many interests & airport. Brant was easy to communicate with and responded promptly.

We're very familiar with the location therefore it was our pick. I'd stay again if vacationing with others. Was pretty clean, beach chairs & clean towels. November 2022 stay so weather apprx 65 Degrees, heat did not work so house was quite cold at night, 1st floor shower didn't work. If you like to walk- about 20 mins from some cool restaurants & kayak rentals, etc. House/ cottage furniture is a bit dated. Owner is lovely & responsive. Worth the rate if your share with others.

The property is a classic in-law unit directly behind a larger house. They have done a great job providing privacy from the main house. There are two bedrooms upstairs with a day-bed in an open area at the top of the stairs. While the home could use some contemporary updates for the price, it's location cannot be beat and the hosts were very accommodating.

Our stay her was wonderful and very relaxing. Property is secluded and quiet. Met the owner and she was so sweet and accommodating. Very nice and not crowded beach just across the street. Def would stay again. Loved the antiques in the home!!

This was my second stay at this property. It is very peaceful, private and comfortable with all amenities. The location provides easy access to the beach; restaurants within walking distance and many other places are a short drive. Bonus is easy parking on premises! I hope to return next year!

2 couples plus a few of our adult children stayed for the week. Location is very convenient just a block or so from beach in LJ Shores near UCSD and close to Caroline’s as noted. Can walk to the village town in 15 minutes or short drive if can find parking. The house has a good layout with a spacious downstairs. Couches were a little dated and can use an upgrade but can use just fine. Nice kitchen area with all needed utensils and good cooking area. Outside grounds are very spacious as well but also can use a little landscaping and upgrading but again was nice to be able to sit out there and enjoy the different spaces available. Lots of tree cover and a cute little fish pond. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would come back again. Owner lives next door and is very nice to chat with. Was easy to communicate with and quickly responsive to our few requests or questions.

Our family enjoyed our stay here immensely. We joked that we wished we could just move in. The house was stocked with everything a vacationing family could need. We were able to walk to restaurants, Birch Aquarium, the beach (be sure to do some sea kayaking), as well as lovely places to hike. It's also only a 20 minute drive or so to Balboa Park, Old Town, and only about 40 minutes to the San Diego Safari Park in Escondido. Fabulous location, clean and comfortable with a warm, friendly hostess!
