My partner and two small children stayed at the cabin for three nights, as a base for visiting friends and family in Nanaimo. We are so glad we chose it, as it was a wonderful, quiet place to relax in the evening, while also being close to town and conveniences. We hope to be back again soon, thanks for everything Doug and Mary!

The only help given by property owners was a mouse trap. I plugged the main hole where pipes entered the cabin with steel wool but frankly don’t think that was my job. Cabin needs an inspection to make sure all access points have been plugged. Caught the mouse after the hole was plugged which concerns me- do they have a nest inside the cabin. Mice were able to climb up gaps between wood cladding walls inside. Mouse poop everywhere including in top shelf dishes. I spent a lot of time trying to clean up and sanitize so my kids didn’t get sick. At end of stay there was still more mouse poop on kitchen counters, top of cutting board resting on microwave, under kitchen sink and cutlery drawer. When I told owners there was mouse problem, they did not come down to clean dishes, cupboards, etc. Shocked me. There also was no water in the solar shower. A dribble came out when landowner oriented me to how to use it at start of stay. Didn’t discover water barrel was empty until the owners were gone on holiday trip.

I was a bit sceptical at first, but this rustic cabin experience was just what I needed (and more). Being on the edge of a crown land nature reserve with no one around but the horses and birds was therapeutic! And the stars at night were amazing!

Amazing location and super friendly and helpful hosts. Exactly the type of experience we were looking for. Be prepared to leave commonplace amenities behind for a few days and enjoy the rugged cabin experience. We also lit lots of candles at night, not to use the generator and it created an especially great ambiance.

Hoste were very attentive and helpful . Cabin very rustic n just what I needed . Very quiet and peaceful

Had a great 4 night stay in the cabin out in the back of the horse ranch. Very private. The inside of the cabin was a bit dusty but we had no issue with it knowing that it is a rustic cabin that we were staying in. There was some horse manure about the property, but guess what? This cabin is on a horse ranch. We didn't mind that either. I'm just stating this for clarity. There is 2 queen beds up on the loft which is accessed by a ladder that is quite solid. A couch is on the end opposite of the front door. A kitchenette is on one wall and the wood stove on the other. A propane grill was provided under an awning and a fire pit out front. No wifi but cellular connection is not an issue anywhere on the property, as long as you have data. There is no water service, but the hosts provide water for wash up, shower and flushing the manual toilet. The bathhouse is about 30 steps from the cabin. One side is the toilet and sink, and the other side is the shower section. Towels were provided but we brought our own. The hosts went out of their way to make sure that there would be an operational hot shower for us since theirs was not working when we got there. They provided a propane heated portable shower which ran on the small generator. This generator can also be used to provide electricity to the cabin, but we did not deem it necessary since there were also led lanterns provided. Doug and Mary made sure to give ideas for seeing things around on the mountain or in town. A very pleasant couple and good hosts. We will most likely come back another time.
