Great property, excellent views. Maintenance needs work, and management company has much room for improvement.

This house was just spectacular. Not a better view on STJ. We loved it and will definitely be back. Perfect for three couples! The hosts were terrific. Thank you for a fantastic vacation!

Absolutely stunning property. The views are magnificent. The property is beautifully maintained. The outdoor are area was our favorite spot. The outdoor showers were fantastic after a long day in the sun. Waking up in the morning to the beautiful water view is incredible.
The only cons were the driveway. Which is unbelievably steep. If anyone in your party has any mobility issues this is not the place for you. Travel very light as you will need to bring luggage to your vehicle.
I would definitely recommend this property.

This was an amazing house and an amazing setting. It was breathtakingly scenic, quiet and spacious.

This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The location is a bit remote, and you do have to adjust a bit to the roads in St. John, but it was well worth it. The house was beautiful and clean. The outside space is where we spent most our time. It had plenty of space and was very well equipped. It was nice to have chairs and a cooler to bring to the beach. The views of Tortola and Drakes passage are amazing. We could not get enough and want to come back next year for 2 weeks. St. John is a wonderful Island and the people were friendly and kind.

Just came back from beautiful St. John.
This property is absolutely stunning. The house is clean, has everything you need, and just plain perfect. The views are spectacular. After a day of beach going and swimming, the beds were welcoming and comfortable. It was very clear that the owners really take pride in their property and have everything there that you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. We will be back!

The heated pool is a great size and has amazing view of the ocean. House is situated so the really crazy winter winds from east are a bit blocked where the house is situated. 1 mile from Haulover bay is great snorkeling and nice morning walk area.

Awesome home!!
We stayed as a family of 4 - this home was absolutely as advertised and beautiful. Wonderfully stocked kitchen - we had a private chef 3 nights who also loved it. Pool was great - we had it heated for our stay! It is on the east end so if you are going to go out to eat every night it is a trek to restaurants. We loved the privacy and quietness of where the home is at.

Beautiful Home as advertised
Wow what an outstanding property on the less traveled side of St John. Owners did a wonderful job designing their home. Plenty of space for our six adults with room to spare. Fantastic outdoor living areas with pool, hot tub, grill, sunning areas and outdoor bar. Bedrooms were all identical, very large and extremely nice. Gourmet Kitchen had everything needed to prepare wonderful meals which we did 50% of the time.
Haulover and Hansen Beach are both within a mile of the home and offered the best snorkeling we experienced on the island.
Thanks for sharing Andy!

Beautiful Villa
Wow!! BEAUTIFUL!!! The pictures online are very accurate of the villa but don't even do it justice with how beautiful it is in person.
The spacious outdoor area overlooks the BVIs. The view is out of this world. There must be some sort of incinerator across the way on the BVIs because there was constant smoke coming from the area. The smoke wasn't an issue and we didn't smell anything but I can't promise that is not always the case if the wind were different.
The indoor area was decorated beautifully. Fully stocked kitchen with everything from plates, cups, blender, spices etc. The beds were soo comfortable too. All bedrooms were master kings complete with their own bathrooms and outdoor shower.
The biggest issue we had was the communication we experienced with management regarding the central AC not working and the whole house using floor ACs. This was not a huge issue in the bedrooms...but 1 small floor AC unit for the whole main part of the house did hardly anything. The house was HOT. We wanted to do a private chef a few nights while we were there but since it was so hot in the house we didn't want to spend anytime inside so decided to opt out. It was explained that there was an island wide power outage (locals told us it was several months ago but management told us it was only weeks ago...maybe there was 2). Hey, we get it...it's the caribbean...but I think we should've at least been given a heads up. When we wrote the management company, they said that for the trouble they included free pool heating and a welcome basket including a bottle of prosecco......which no they did not. The pool was not heated when we arrived (and there solution to the house being too hot was to make the pool hot too?) and there was no welcome basket anywhere. When we replied to management asking where we could find the welcome basket we never got a response. So that was a big let down...but other than that , beautiful villa.

Relaxing side of island
Plenty of space to spread out if multiple couples. All bedroom suites are king size with double sink vanities and outdoor showers. Thanks be suite is a casita with a great view of the ocean. Beds are pretty comfortable. The pool area is what sold us when we booked and the pics delivered. Great size pool and always a shady area in case don’t want sun all the time. Used the outdoor living area all the time as well as the outdoor TV. Missing outdoor dining area but that didn’t stop us from eating outside. Nice size grill. Kitchen had spices, storage containers and really well appointed. And loved the washer/dryer.

Family of Eight at Andara
The property itself is amazing and exactly as depicted in the pictures. The views are incredibly beautiful. There were a few hiccups with checking in. We waited over an hour for someone to meet us. We were told a few things about the house that were not true. They knew we were a party of 8 and actually said to me thanks for telling us so that we can set up the downstairs pullout for you. Not only was that not done there were no extra sheets or even a throw blanket in the house. We had to use beach towels for blankets! BTW, The pullout is extremely thin and very uncomfortable. There were only 6 shower and beach towels. Upon asking for more towels, sheets, blankets, etc. they sent more of everything but told us there are no blankets and would have to order some and would take 3 to 5 days. It wasn’t cold but for a house of this caliber, sleeping with towels for blankets doesn’t cut it. Also, a few newer frying pans could be used.
We had a private chef come to the house. He was appalled that we had to use plastic wine glasses. He said had he known, he would have brought us some. Again, a house of this caliber and price range……………
Would we stay here again, yes but would be sure to only have 6 people. I hope this review is available to the owner so maybe he can talk to management company about a few things.

Luxurious, Peaceful Retreat
Firstly, I want to thank the owner, Andy, for being incredibly helpful - not only in the booking process, but was also quick to answer our email questions when applicable. The home is impeccably designed, comfortable, and well thought-out, not to mention beautifully appointed. We were looking for a very relaxing vacation with downtime, spectacular views, and wonderful outdoor spaces - and this property offered exactly what we were hoping for! We had the foresight to pick up groceries over on St. Thomas (less expensive and more options) before taking the ferry over to St. John. A four-wheel drive vehicle is nearly mandatory to navigate the island - and the driveway :) By the way - despite what you may be told, don't back down the driveway. It is very daunting at first, but is easily mastered. Coral Bay (about 15 mins drive) offers a couple simple, beachy restaurants/bars and a small grocery store for necessities. We made the majority of our meals at the property. The kitchen is very well-stocked with every amenity you may need. When looking for this type of vacation in future, Villa Andara will be our first choice. Thank you, Andy & Dara, for sharing your amazing home!

Spectacular Villa with Subtle Surprises
Beautiful home with a great view. Definitely high end house in every detail. Extremely well furnished and maintained. A special place.
The surprises that surfaced after being here a couple of days should be considered. The house is nestled into the side of a mountain so there is a very steep driveway and stairway. We expected this but progressively realized that the villa is facing due north and the outdoor living area is almost always in the shade of the mountain. This contributes to a darkness inside the house that's difficult to overcome with the installed lighting.
Another surprise was the Tortola garbage incinerator directly across the Channel. There's usually a good breeze so it was not an issue for most days but when the wind calmed and they burned there was a very unpleasant odor and requiring us to button up.

Quiet R&R
Nice home, very quite and peaceful stay. If you don't mind the drive to the east end and some of the rough edges on that end of the island. Home is as advertised.

Andara is AMAZING!
Our short story, everything was perfect! We are experienced travelers, with high expectations, for amazing family vacations. We got it! The communication/service/facilitation was spot on, and the location, and house, are literally to die for. The house has an insanely incredible feel, and flow, with great furnishings and amenities, and with perfect upkeep. Everything (the house, the grounds, the pool/whirlpool, outdoor showers, patios, bar, grill) were exactly as they should be…clean, working, and enabling a great and memorable experience.

The perfect getaway!
This house is perfect, if you don’t mind staying on the East End, removed from the “bustle” of Cruz Bay. We had an amazing time, and this house met every single one of our needs. It was immaculate, well-maintained, and spacious - more than enough room for two couples. Full A/C was wonderful after a day at the beach, and the pool was the best we have had on island. I recommend this place for anyone - it will not disappoint!!!!

Paradise
Simply put, this villa is paradise. The home is clean and has everything you need. If you want quiet and relaxation this is it. We grabbed dinner (lobster) right from the bay below. Snorkeling there was great as well. I loved morning coffee listening to the goats call each other and watching them take a drink from the pool. No shortage of other animals as we saw deer and donkey daily. I've travel to St John every year and this was by far my best accommodation.
Recommend stopping at Pickles in paradise for breakfast and lunch. Great banana bread and fresh items.

A beautifully crafted villa with unparalleled views, charm, and privacy.
A little context for the review. My wife and I are on last day at Andara since arriving a week ago. Just the two of us. We're heading to a different villa for the next week over in Peter Bay Estates. It's our first time together on St. John and only the 2nd time we've rented a villa for a vacation. We travel extensively but typically stay in ultra-luxury resorts such as Rosewood & One&Only or boutiques designed to provide a more intimate experience.
Staying here was a great decision! The views of the sailboats and yachts through the channel are magnificent. The nighttime view of Tortola and the lights is really cool. We spent HOURS in the hot tub and heated pool stargazing, dreaming, talking about anything and everything, exactly what we were looking for in this vacation. Talk about recharging the batteries...That's what Andara has done for us and it's what we needed.
The home itself is a fortress of quality materials and workmanship. Clearly designed with structural safety in mind, the details and touch are impeccable. We took lots of pics as we're currently designing a home ourselves and inspired to incorporate some of what we experienced here.
So, as far as the property itself, a 5 star rating for sure. Here's what you should also consider and know:
The driveway and stairs leading to the home are steep. The driveway is really no big deal for a Jeep but the stairs would be a challenge for older guests and/or anyone with knee/hip issues. BTW this is common for many homes on a mountainside so it's not unique to Andara.
It's remote here. You're on the far end of St. John in a development that went bust somewhere along the way. Developers take note, this could be something really special... But the remoteness also gave us the privacy and seclusion we were after on this trip.
The local restaurants, shopping, groceries in Coral Bay are very limited. The little village is bit of a hippy town so if that's your vibe you'll be right at home. We ate out one meal a day and frankly none of it was exceptional. We're foodies so admittedly our expectations may not be aligned with others. If you're looking for more night life or access to better dining this might not be the best place on the island.
There are no cons per se to Andara. It's not that you can't go explore those north shore beaches or drive to Cruz Bay, you can but it's a lot of driving. Andara is ideal for guests who desire privacy and seclusion and enjoy staying put once here.

Stunning Inside and Out
Andara is absolutely as beautiful as the pictures show. This is our second stay here, the first being 3 years and one very large Hurricane Irma ago. The house, property and amenities look virtually brand new. We didn't know what to expect coming only one year after the devastation of Irma, but we were pleasantly surprised (and happy for the people of St. John) to find many of the businesses are back up and running - grocery stores, restaurants, shops... Irma can still be seen and felt for sure, but the healing is very much under way. The beaches are still beautiful and the water is still warm and this house is still stunning.

Paradise "Bucket-List" Dream Vacation
The views from every room (including the bathroom), as well as outside were amazing! The infinity pool is where we enjoyed being the most, but every square foot of the villa is beautiful. The kitchen was laid out very well and stocked with most of the cookware, dishes and utensils that anyone would need. I was hesitant about the outdoor shower, but it really grew on me and I enjoyed it very much. The bedroom that we stayed in was perfect! The bed slept very well, the view was beautiful and the bathroom was spacious and well laid out. We spent a lot of time outside in the infinity pool and under the gazebo. There are so many great sitting areas that no matter the placement of the sun, there is always a great place to sit and enjoy the view. The birds are quite noisy and nosey and basically would steal any scraps of food if they caught your head turned, but that's just part of nature and we really enjoyed their antics as they kept us entertained. The owner, Andy, was extremely helpful both prior to our visit as well as during. I was forced to call him once because I had inadvertently changed the music television station and could not figure out how to get it back on. He was very patient and understanding and did not seem to mind to help us out. The management company was good to deal with and so was the greeter. One word of caution: there are many steps getting to the villa from the driveway and I would not recommend someone to visit here if you are not capable of climbing a good many stairs in the hot sun. I'm glad that we visited Villa Andara before we got too old to climb the stairs. The driveway is very steep (and a little scary) but with the help of the 4-wheel drive Jeep rental and my husband's great driving skills, we didn't have any problems. This was truly our dream vacation. Even though there is still a lot of destruction from the hurricanes as you ride around the island, the beauty of the island is still there (you just have to look passed the sunken boats, broken-down houses and cars). We cooked some meals in the villa and we also found a few little places with great food. My personal favorite was Lucy's Grouper Reuben at Miss Lucy's (best sandwich I have ever had!). Villa Andara is exquisite and spectacular but still feels homey. This was a vacation that my husband and I will forever remember. Hope to come back again soon!

extremely easy to work with
We visit STJ annually, this year in April, can't wait and looking forward to Andara. The owner, Andy has been very accommodating with quick responses to questions and helping with additional days and guests. In short a pleasure to work with. He uses VIVA for contracts/etc and they have also been very responsive. Planning and villa selection is always part of the fun and these folks have added to the fun while making it easy.

Reward for Living
If you are looking for a world class, restfull vacation, then this villa is perfect for you. Natural beauty abounds, picture postcard beaches just a short ride away, starlit nights...... The villa itself has every possible amenity; one of our favorites are those outdoor showers. Thanks to the satellite, we were even able to catch the NFL playoff games under the gazebo with Tortola's twinkling lights in the background! We'll be back!!

Perfect Getaway
Our second time at Villa Andara reminded us how much we missed the St. John. The view from the villa is like none other. Rainbows and ships set in the startlingly blue water and lush surroundings greet you every day. While the view from the villa is magical the Villa itself is a true work of art. Every light fixture, furniture and design element has been carefully thought out to add to the beautiful setting that is St. John. Yes, you need a car to take advantage of the island but we discovered on our last day that a quick trip down the hill brings you to a rocky beach perfect for a quick visit and snorkel. Simply perfect getaway.

Devine Abode
This home was built with Heaven in mind. We have been lucky to visit Villa Andara on two different occasions. When I am not here I am dreaming of my return. The home is exquisite. Every detail has been thought out. If you are not the adventurous type; no worries, there isn't a reason to leave. The impeccable view is panoramic, the infinity pool transcends you into a state of ecstasy. The luxurious outdoor showers that overlook the intertwined vines of the flora allow for a refreshing yet invigorating feel unlike any experience. The kitchen is gourmet all the way. You will enjoy cooking in it or if you are really lucky watching someone cook for you in this state of the art kitchen. If this home is a budget stretch for you, go for it! You will not be disappointed.

Second time around
A true testomony of our love of Andura was that we came back, as we had a flawless vacation here last year. We did notice some differences however which we did not expect based upon the pricey, yet competitive, rate of such luxury. This year the bronze wall fountain did not function and was not repaired during our stay. Seems like a little issue unless you had experienced the hundreds of hummingbirds using it as their tropical bar last year. We came in on Super Bowl Sunday and alas none of the televisions worked. Of course you may also be thinking that we were on vacation, who needs TV? It would have nice to have at least been able to watch the big game. The TV / satellite issue was partially resolved mid-week after two calls so we could finally get music in the great room. To this day we are unable to switch it to the gazebo/ pool area speakers. One of our party is a a wonderful amateur chef. He delights in using what we have on hand to create delectable dishes. But alas, the beautiful commercial gas range had electronic sparking issues all week and did not appear to have been cleaned in quite some time. (Resulting in stained clothes.) Light fixtures need cleaning outside and light bulbs need to be replaced. All this being said we know is genuinely minor but... We have grown to expect clean, properly functioning facilities, especially if we are willing to pay the price. If we were the owners we would want to know these things and would drill down to whose resposility it is to keep it at 100%. We love this place and do not want to see it decline. Just sayin'.

We loved Villa Andara so much we went back and had our wedding there
In 2011 my (then) boyfriend and I took our first romantic getaway together as the very first rental guests of Villa Andara. The most vivid memory for me was our drive out to the East End and seeing the villa up on the mountain as we made our way up the winding road. It was hard to believe we would be spending the next week in a house that looked like paradise. Once there, you enter the driveway from above and you can't help but have your breath taken away by the view. It is not possible to use words to describe taking in the first view of your surroundings. The house is impeccably done with every detail considered. The outside living space is a gorgeous and inviting as the inside. The gourmet kitchen and outside grill area have every amenity you would need if you will be cooking any meal. Our week was perfect, really, we wanted for nothing and had every luxury we would need.
And so 3 years later while planning, there was no question where to have our destination wedding. We returned to paradise at Villa Andara. The setting was perfect and our wedding day and honeymoon were all that it should be.
I'm intentionally keeping this review short so that anyone skimming through to get a sense of this house will quickly see that it's one of the most beautiful places on St. John. If you choose Villa Andara you will have no regrets.

Perfection in Paradise
This is such a special place. The view is simply stunning.
Andara is perched on a hill on the eastern end of the island looking over the Sir Francis Drake passage. If you know the area and are curious about the view in the photos, you are looking at the West End (Sopers Hole) of Tortola.
Located just above Haulover Bay, you can see the birds diving on fish and the sailboats on tack trying to make Norman Island.
The villa itself is beautifully designed. No expense was spared in its construction and the owners have exquisite taste in design and decoration. There are 3 king sized bedroom suites situated away from each other. Three couples could come to Andara and have all the privacy they wanted.
The infinity pool is the perfect size. Big enough for to enjoy but not so large that it distracts from the property. We spent most of our time outside in the shade of the gazebo or in the pool.
Everything worked flawlessly. The kitchen is well stocked with all the pots, pans and utensils any chef could need. Plenty of space to create wonderful meals. The pantry comes stocked with spices and other non perishables left behind by other guests. Additionally, the owners generously allow you to use their snorkel equipment, coolers and others beach/pool items as you need. That is very rare and much appreciated.
The driveway, while steep and initially intimidating, is easily conquered. If you can drive Centerline Road from Cruz Bay to East End without wrecking your jeep you can handle the driveway.
We looked at over 30 St Johns properties on VRBO before selecting this one. Even though it was on the higher end of our price range (there was just my wife and I celebrating a special anniversary) we are so glad we chose Andara. I promise you won't be disappointed if you do the same.
This is a special place for folks that appreciate the very best. We didn't want to leave the property. You won't want to either...

A private, remarkable sanctuary!
The drive from Cruz Bay to the villa is roughly 45min on windy roads but the villa greeter is fantastic and the drive is beautiful. If you want seclusion and untouched beauty this villa and location are for you. If you want local bars you can walk to and a grocery store 5 min away, this is not for you.
The Villa is even more breathtaking than the pictures, which I didn't think would be possible. It is very calm and quiet with only maybe 4 other houses on Dreeket's Bay Road. The driveway as mentioned is very steep but completely manageable and if you aren't comfortable with it you can easily park at the top of the driveway and walk down.
We traveled with another couple (so all four of us are between 39-45 yrs old). It was intended to be a quiet adult vacation (though the villa is great for kids as well as the pool is large enough and they provide some water and sand toys).
My husband and I stayed in the POD and it was fantastic while our friends stayed in the upstairs bedroom in the house. The beds were all comfortable and the AC worked very well. The kitchen is fantastic (could use a few more pieces of silverware) and the view while cooking is tremendous. You can use the remote to hide the TV so the windows aren't obstructed, which we promptly did upon arrival and never brought it back up. Outdoor space was devine!
Just below the villa (by car - 2 minutes) is a path you can take to get to Haulover Bay. You can snorkel there and if you have a keen eye, from the driveway you can see turtles swimming in that bay. There is fresh conch there and the coral is untouched. Love City Grocery store is about 10min away and has all you could need for a quick grocery trip however it is a little "rough" looking from the outside. Fortunately Calabash Market opened in Nov 2013 and is very clean and more visually appealing. Love City was fine and we purchased from there but we preferred to go a little bit further (another 5min toward Salt Pond) to restock. In Cruz Bay is the only gas station and they have a great market - Starfish market is expansive and super clean/modern.
We tried a few restaurants: Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck Landing and Chateau Bordeaux. Chateau Bordeaux was hands down our favorite (a shout out to Lorelei and Neshell!) We also had one "fancy" dinner out at Zozo's in Caneel Bay. Very nice, great ambiance (expensive though but you're on vacation!).
In the end it was all we dreamed it would be! Thank you Andy and Dara!
