Emplacement idéal, magnifique !! Très bien situé, juste en face du célèbre restaurant The Rock, entouré de restaurants typiques et très bon marché offrant une délicieuse cuisine traditionnelle, et même 10% de réduction au restaurant voisin Wishing Tree. Tout est très propre, les extérieurs sont superbes et invitent à la détente. Personnel adorable, dévoué et très à l'écoute. Gilian, la propriétaire, est super et très arrangeante. Elle nous a fait préparer des petits-déjeuners à emporter le jour de notre départ. Nous reviendrons à Shanuo si nous le pouvons. C'est une adresse qu'il faut retenir !!!

I could honestly write a 10-page article in praise of Shanuo. Firstly, yes. It’s every bit as beautiful as the pictures would have you believe. (With that said, there’s no way to truly capture the beauty of this place through a camera lens. You just have to go there to see that for yourself). Surrounded by coconut trees and brightly coloured tropical flowers, the bungalows overlook the Indian Ocean - a morning dip is a must! My room was clean and comfortable and I was provided with everything I might need during my stay. Although Shanuo doesn’t have its own restaurant, I can honestly say this has no impact on your stay at all. The breakfasts are generous and Shanuo provides drinks and snacks (at a small fee) if you’re feeling peckish. There are several neighbouring properties along the beach with restaurants. I promise you won’t go hungry! Secondly, the staff are incredibly accommodating and helpful, and you’re guaranteed to be met with a friendly smile and an enthusiastic “Jambo” 100% of the time. If you need anything, you just need to look up and someone is there to assist. A big thank you to everyone at Shanuo, but especially to Na who brought my breakfast every morning and who I had lovely chats with, to Daniel who cut copious amounts of fresh aloe vera to tend my sun burn, and of course to the manager, Gillian, who is energetic, friendly and builds meaningful connections with her guests which she uses to tailor her travel tips especially to your needs. This team creates an atmosphere that truly makes you feel as though you’re ‘coming home’. There’s so much more that I could say, but anyone reading this will begin to think I’m exaggerating. I’m really not. Do yourself a favour and just book! I’ll certainly be coming back here on my next Zanzibar adventure.

This isn’t something that affected me at all and so I’m almost reluctant to write it, however, I know that some travelers might find the bathroom shower and bedroom fan uncomfortable. The showers don’t have anything to stop the water from covering the floor, but there’s a rubber squeegee in every shower that you can clear the water away easily enough. The rooms have fans rather than aircon, so on warmer nights it can get a little stuffy. Again, the above honestly didn’t affect my stay at all - I showered and slept comfortably - but some might want to be aware of this.

We had a wonderful 7-night stay, absolutely an Excellent place to feel Zanzibar. Everything was just perfect. The staff was helpful, the accommodation was beautiful and the breakfast was superb. It couldn't have been better. Will definitely come again to this place.

THE breakfast was good, the location was ok though a bit difficult to find when you get close, as the road is nor very clearly made out. otherwise i was happy with the facility, in general.

the drainage of the shower could be improved so that water does not flow towards the toilet, and the sink. the access to the rock was quite traumatic for some of our team, if there was a way to have a motorised boat of have a bridge for a high tide

We loved our stay here in a first floor room facing the beach and ocean. All staff were incredibly professional and friendly from check in until check out, and everything in between. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was nice; it’s lovely to be served breakfast your balcony and made the stay relaxing. The property is in a lovely location, right on the beach and neighbouring many eateries including the famous Rock Restaurant. It’s clear that the staff/management here really care for locals and the local area which is good to see. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and will be readily recommending it to others!

The location, the sun loungers, the team. I stayed here to be near The Rock and expected it to be more touristy but that’s nicely restricted to one end of the beach. Gillian and the whole team are really lovely. It was so nice having breakfast on your balcony, and being able to order drinks their too

A perfect alternative to expensive beach resorts for those looking for an authentic experience, off the tourist path. Bungalows are cosy, decorated in Zanzibar style, with a private terrace where you can stare at the see while breakfast or a glass of wine is served. Although this is not an all-inclusive, the service is quite high-level thanks to a prepared smiling staff and Gillian, the property manager, who took care of us like longtime friends. The famous Rock restaurant is within walking distance, a true plus from our side.

The breakfast was great and was brought to our room, which was very nice! The room was large and the showers were great as well. The fans were great and cooled off the room when it got humid.

Perhaps the only suggestion would have been options for lunch or dinner. Otherwise you had to go out of the hotel to get food in the afternoon or evening.

A big thumbs up to this nice place. For us it was the most luxurious place we have been on our trip - because normally we keep it really simple. :) We were impressed about the location - peaceful, silent and very heartwarming. If you want to relax, Shanuo Beach Bungalow is the best option. Nice and clean garden and the best was the wooden platform with the sun loungers and of course the view all over the sea and the white sand. :) We also rented bikes for two days to explore the surrounding. Another thumb for the staff. There are no words that can describe their kindness! Thank you for making our stay so special.

Definitely highly recommended (and we had looked at innumerable other options in the same budget range). Shanuo is minimal yet rich. It's beautifully designed. The room was very comfortable and a joy to wake up in, especially when it was time for breakfast on the balcony! The staff were friendly and professional. We loved the homestay warmth with resort-level details and comfort. Note: counter to some older reviews, the fan was brand new and super silent, and the mosquito net was in excellent shape.

I loved everything about Shanuo. The location is fantastic, right in front to the Rock restaurant. The beach is beautiful and there are many things you can do in the area. The room was simple and spacious with big bathroom. Each room has a balcony with a sea view where breakfast is served every morning. Overall great experience.

Perfect location and great staff

The doors of my room open right to a view of the glorious Indian Ocean. The bed was comfortable, and the room was simple and not cluttered. I also liked that the furniture was locally made and matched the setting. Having my own porch space in front of the room was highly appreciated.

The cats on the property came begging on my porch any time I ate, although they had cat food. But this isn't the property's fault.

The fan was so weak you could carefully feel it and it was very hot. The bed was so hard it gave me back pain. The room was small and we barely had room to open our luggage. The breakfast gave me diarrhea. We left after the first night.

Location was phenomenal, beautiful views across the surrounding beach and sea area and, of the restaurant on the rock. Owner Jillian, (sorry if its Gillian!) was amazing, really helpful, knowledgeable, gave us loads of ideas and tips to enhance our short stay, made us feel fully at ease. She also gave us a fab room as she noticed it was my birthday during our stay, even remembering on the day to wish me many happy returns! Not bad for a true Scot to an English couple lol and thank you for the natural Aloe Vera plant you left in the fridge at reception for me and my burnt face 🙈 it worked wonders! Lovely garden areas including swinging day beds and a viewing terrace with sundowners. Staff really helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble Rooms adequate, electric fan, nice toiletries All very good ⭐️

On site bar and pool would have been a very nice bonus but, drinks can be brought to your room or the grounds and, apparently a restaurant and pool area are on the plans.

I was so impressed by Shanuo Beach Bungalows – absolutely one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The property manager was so welcoming and helped us organize activities to do, the room was cute with a newly renovated bathroom, and the breakfast was delicious every day. Highly recommend, though it is a little far from the nearby towns – we had to take a taxi to go out to dinner.
