We absolutely loved the river cottage! Mom, dad, me, my sister and our two pups had a wonderful time. It has a rustic feel yet the bathrooms had nice updates. The open kitchen and living room were perfect for cooking together and catching up. The sun room and picnic table on the back deck were our favorite places to dine. Birding, kayaking, watching the pups play in the fenced in yard, and napping were our favorite activities. It is peaceful and secluded. Next time we will bring the hubbies along. There is plenty of space for 3 adult couples and a kids bedroom for 3. For the four of us we each had our own room.

Beautiful location and a great place to stay!

Had a great second visit to this property. It's quiet, cozy and nice without being too nice to still enjoy ourselves with pets and kids.

We were in town for a local wedding and this property meet all our needs with added benefits. Great morning view over the river with a nice dock for the grandkids to fish off of. Owners communication and check in / check out procedure was great. The booklet supplied in the home by the owners with information and locations of stuff in the area was a great help/resource. If we would have had the free time we would have brought our boat.

Our stay was made so easy. Will rent again.

Good fishing, plenty of bedrooms, good wifi service and clean. Easy to run to town for supplies, but far enough away for privacy.

We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable house overlooking the water. The area is quiet and peaceful, with many birds and other wildlife. Great spot for families!

We loved it! The house felt like home and it was so relaxing. We backed into the pump house (driving our 15 passenger van that we use for Worship on Wheels) and the owners were very gracious about it. Would love to stay there again if they'll have us..lol Stay, you'll love it.

Property is as advertised. Not as much seating as we would have liked for our crowd. The dining room table is awkwardly placed in the sunroom and it was a little to chilly to eat out there as it's not a heated space. Would stay again.

The waterside yard was outstanding. Luckily, although it was very hot during our stay, we enjoyed the shady spots and a breeze every day. Also had a fire every evening. Fishing was poor...lots of very small spots and croakers. However we each caught a pickle fish which was a first for us! The crabbing was pretty decent and were happy with that. A bonus for us was watching the bald eagles. It is always a thrill to watch them soar. I connected to the wi-fi right away, but that access only lasted for a few hours. Couldn't get anything after the first morning which was disappointing as far as getting local information.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at this property for a much needed getaway. We brought our 2 dogs along, and the yard was perfect for them: plenty of room and it’s fenced in. Keep in mind that if you bring pets, they cannot stay at the property unattended (understandable), so if you want to go out to dinner or whatever, someone will have to stay behind to pet sit. Not sure if they can be crated while you go out. You’d have to ask the owner if they allow that. We brought our kayaks,, so my husband and daughter went out on the water early every morning. They loved it! I enjoyed the quiet time with the dogs while they were out. Property was clean, kitchen well stocked and area was very peaceful. We enjoyed our stay!

We had a great time crabbing and fishing. Family and friends kayaked and canoed. We went to Montross brewery and met some good people. Would be a nice place to return to in the future.

The view of the river from the house is always pretty with lots of opportunities to watch the sunset. We caught and cooked crab, but other fish caught were too small to eat. Did lots of kayaking, which was very easy because there was almost no current to navigate. It’s a wonderful place to relax in. Would recommend.

The River House was the perfect for our family vacation. It provided a great meeting place for family from North Carolina and Vermont. The bedrooms were split up well and the main living area was plenty big for everyone to hang out and enjoy company while playing games. We LOVED the backyard. We brought cornhole and ladderball with us and played everyday. We also brought along our paddleboards and kayaks and the property was the perfect place to put in for a great paddle. Fishing wasn't as good as we had hoped and the jellyfish were too many to swim but simply paddle to the main Yeomico for fishing and drove to the George Washingtong Birthplace to swim. Having 2 gas stations and Dollar General within 10 minutes was great for grabbing the little things and Walmart was only 30 minutes away so we did our 2 big shops there. Will definitely consider staying here again next summer!

Other than the weather which for sure can’t be pre-arranged. Everything went great. We caught a couple crabs in the crab pot and some Spot, Perch, and Puppy Drum. Loved the spaciousness of the house and the country cottage / lake house feel. The kitchen was fully equip with every utensil we could possibly need to cook up some home cooked meals and socialize. The view from back windows were glorious! Ample parking and the dogs loved the fully fenced yard made for a worry-free stay with them.. if there were any cons it would be the white carpet ( which did give a very comfy feel) but with pets, kids and lots of rain it made it very challenging to keep it clean. I did contact the owner and asked if we could use the green mat on the back porch to cover the high traffic area of the floor and she agreed that was a good idea.. it really helped a lot.. and the only other thing that would have taken the stress level down a bit is a fence on the waterside with a semi-locking gate to the dock. With 2 and 3 year olds who can open doors and let themselves out we were constantly on edge to where they were. They move fast! Would Definitely recommend and stay again!

For price - you cannot beat this place. It is a wonderful setting and house with amazing character. We loved our stay.
