We can recommend the scuba diving opportunities for 8-13 year olds, our youngest had a fantastic time. It was a lovely place to stay, I would recommend it with hesitation (and this from someone who's fussy!).

Reviewer Comments: This home is so inviting the moment you walk through the white picked fence gate and gaze upon the California native vegetation which is perfect for attracting the Butterflies during their season stays. Walking through the front door I felt very drawn to the warm and inviting decor of the home and the painted stone fireplace. I spent many mornings with my coffee and book warming by the fire. The kitchen is beautiful with everything you need to make a delicious meal and it has a washer/dryer in the kitchen hidden behind a cabinet door which I used. Nice to have 2 bathrooms and 4 beautifully decorated bedrooms to give you that old world charm that this home presents. This home was completely redone inside and out, very well kept and extremely clean. The location was great. Your only blocks from Cannery Row and Aquarium and the 7 mile trail. We ran every morning down to the trail for our daily run and you are so close to downtown with all it's resturants and cute shops. If you are a walker then you can walk to everything. Also only minutes to Carmel and it only was 25 miles to Big Sur and 15 min to Point Lobos. Santa Cruz was just about 30 min. We had a great time and would visit again. Great for kids to rent bikes and beach at Lovers Point too. You too will feel the love and attention that Storybook Cottage was given to make sure you feel invited and at home, and be on the look out for the deer that pay visits through town and our last day we had one come up to the front gate and greet our daughter that morning. Love it!

We found the Storybook Cottage to be charming, cozy, and perfect for out family celebration. The kitchen is well equipped, nice linens on the beds, luxurious towels, and robes were a nice touch. The cottage was tastefully decorated.

We loved our time at the charming Storybook Cottage. There were many special little details, which made our vacation so cozy and comfortable -- little luxuries like a welcoming bottle of wine, board games, spa robes, and little decorative treasures. Beautiful kitchen, comfortable beds, in a lovely house with really special architectural details. All in a perfectly located neighborhood. We explored Big Sur from here, and loved coming home to the Storybook Cottage.

A group of four professionals attending a conference stayed here and loved it. Quiet spot a short walk to the bay and easy access to downtown Monterey (via car). We fondly nicknamed it 'the hobbit house,' because of the low archways and tiny shower stalls. But even our very tall colleague was comfortable. Beautiful kitchen, comfy beds, plenty of towels - and we appreciated the welcome basket of wine!

This place truly has a cottage style. The decor and design inside and outside is very charming. The location is perfect between both Monterey and Carmel both a short drive away. When we arrived they place was really clean. We did have a heater issue, but they were extremely quick to fix it. The bathroom sinks are but small. Overall, this was great location and clean place with fully stocked kitchen.

Storybook Cottage is a jewel! The house is equipped with everything you will need. The Cottage is centrally located and an easy walk to coffee shops and restaurants. The outdoor seating is great for afternoon wine. We will defiantly return in the near future.

We had such a wonderful at this cottage. The owners left no detail untouched and the overall appearance of everything was immaculate. My wife wanted to live there forever! It accommodates everything so well and it's location to everything makes it the perfect place for exploring the areas around! We definitely plan on using this place again in the future!!!

My family stayed here over spring break and had a wonderful time. Despite being rented the night before we came to town, we were allowed to check in early, which was a great convenience. The rental company was very on the ball and easy to communicate with. Kitchen is designed well, with everything you need to make a nice meal, and there are several markets within a 10-minute walk where you can grab provisions. House was spotless. LR/DR is nicely furnished and a good balance: small enough to be cozy, but not cramped. It was about a 15 minute walk to the aquarium in one direction, or a ten minute walk to Lover's Point in the other. Beautiful bedding and fluffy towels! Peaks of the ocean out the bedroom windows, too. Being an old house, the stair treads are narrower than today's building code. And the steps actually run right up to the very edge of the door frames of two of the three bedrooms on the second floor, so that when you step into the hall from those bedrooms, you are about an inch away from the very first tread. Quirks like this are part of the charm of the place, and it was perfectly fine for my tween and teen. But given the stairs setup, this house is definitely best suited for adult couples and families with older kids.

Five senior women found their way to this cottage to co-celebrate their birthdays (326 years total). It suited every one of our needs and we were astounded to see that it anticipated needs we did not know we had! The kitchen was so complete that it became a game to think of something it did not have....no! It was all there (possibly not a cheese grater but we are convinced we just missed it!). The entire home was clean and organized with extra supplies. It was cozy, bathed in pleasant colors and decorated to feel exceptional but lived-in! We loved the location......close to restaurants and shopping but except for the day the gardener came by, we mostly saw neighbors walking their small dogs in the mornings. It felt like home!

We had a fabulous stay at the storybook cottage with our family and would totally recommend it to others traveling to the area. The home was spotless, beautiful and so cozy, a perfect home away from home. The location can't be beat, we loved walking down to the water and out to lovers point. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the kitchen was gorgeous, we had fun cooking there in the evenings! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Planned a last minute getaway.... Upon arrival I was blown away what a gem... Absolutely perfect location we walked to Cannary Row and down town Monterey daily.... Dead silent neighborhood and beyond peaceful...... House was super clean and exactly as described. My wife and I will be returning, and highly recommend this property for a getaway......

We have rented vacation homes countless times, from Florida to Hawaii, but none as charming, clean, and well-appointed as Storybook Cottage. The photos capture this spotless home exactly. The little extra touches -- from comfy bathrobes to blackout shades to the many fluffy throw blankets to keep us warm -- made this as comfortable as our own home. This home is truly vintage, with arched doorways and stunning wood floors, but with every updated amenity you could imagine. We loved sitting outside with a glass of wine in the cool evenings. And it is within walking distance to the coast, the aquarium, grocery stores, and Cannery Row with its many restaurants and wine-tasting rooms, plus a short mile to the 17-Mile Drive. I can't say enough good things about Storybook Cottage. It is truly perfection.

We have stayed in many VRBO properties, and this one was without a doubt the most fully and well appointed. All the amenities you would expect at home! It is a cozy cottage, meaning rooms are relatively small, but we found it perfect for our family of four. We rarely used the car, about a 10-15 minute walk to the Aquarium and Cannery Row. Highly recommended!

Staying at the Storybook Cottage was exactly what I hoped it would be! The cottage was cozy and accommodating, and I loved the fact that my guest and I could walk to the beach. It was also incredibly helpful to have a Trader Joe's and decent restaurants nearby. I was also grateful grateful for Sanctuary Vacation Rentals' clear communication leading up to my stay as well as their willingness to accommodate my early check-in request. I miss the Storybook Cottage already!
