We were over charged by booking.com. They were happy to give a refund once they received an email from Sanctuary Rarotonga. Sanctuary Rarotonga never brothered to send this email despite several phone calls trying to sort it. We are over $300 out of pocket 😡

The facilities were good. The snorkelling was good. Breakfast was fine.

We had previously stayed at The Rarotongan Resort and found it OK, if a little noisy with so many kids. We expected its adults only Sanctuary sister resort next door to be a step up from The Rarotongan. Instead we found a bunch of 18-30 drunken "adults" in the pool making more noise than the kids next door. It was impossible to get away from the noise anywhere in the resort. The staff did nothing except look embarrassed. We cancelled our dinner reservation and went elsewhere, just to get away from the screeching.

Buffet breakfast was continental style - don’t think I’d bother again as the menu included similar foods including cooked which would have worked out cheaper. Was disappointed with the daily clean of unit and topping up of towels, soaps etc

had to ask for towels, room service was late in the Afternoon some days (stayed for 6 nights) about 4pm some days, buffet breakfast was not worth it more hot food should be included.

Majority of the staff working there were amazing with a great attitude, we had a really good couples massage at the spa on our last day which was a wonderful way to finish off the holiday; our therapists were both awesome. The room had easy access to the beach and lagoon, and there was snorkelling gear available for guests to use. The staff were attentive in the restaurant and bar, and the breakfast menu was delicious. Thought the sand floor restaurant was a unique experience, and the swim up bar was a fun touch. Despite the issues on the first day, the rest of the holiday was great.

I had my credit card charged twice for the full amount, and only was able to get refunded once I arrived as email was going nowhere and there was no urgency on their end to action a refund. Generally I wasn't a great start, as the check-in experience really wasn't good, arrived at 2am to be told we needed to have booked for the day before, if we wanted to check in (which I don't have a problem with) this was because it's 3pm check-in. When I had been messaging the reservation team, they were aware of the arrival time, but made no comment that we needed to book an extra night, saying our check-in time was fine. We also tried to arrange a taxi from the airport to the resort, which was confirmed, but was not available when we landed. We were directed to another taxi van by the staff member, but not told it was cash only - only after we were dropped off, again, no mention of the fee while we were next to an ATM. We paid cash to the desk to cover it, but it was still added to our bill for check-out - which we had to question. I think there is a large communication gap and a lack of information provided to guests, much of it was provided once arriving, rather than before, meaning you have to be quite diligent and ensure you have everything lined up. Had we known this info, we could've avoided a very stressful first day.

house keeping was sub standard . only made the bed and changed the towels . never swept the floor that was sandy , didn’t take away empty water or wine bottles . left dirty pizza box . poor quality .

Breakfast, Staff, Room and beach all met expectations. Bar staff in Sanctuary bar were really lovely.

Lunch and dinner menus were disappointing.

Loved where our room was with it being beachside access. Being able to snorkel right on the beach. The friendliest bar staff and the quietness of being adults only.

Not having much gluten free options with stock issues, meant there were very limited options for the continental breakfast and dinners. The bed seemed like it had plastic on the mattress under the topper and sheets.

My room was upper level looking out over the beach and lagoon - just as described. I spent most of my holiday active hiking, cycling and swimming so was happy that there is a good hire shop about 300m from the resort.

Arriving on Good Friday I got three days of Public Holiday surcharges in the bar and restaurant. I am sure as they are counter productive as I for one, just buy less, so they probably make less money by adding the surcharge.

The location was great for snorkelling and only a short journey from some great eateries and activities.

Just generally it would have been good to know in advance that Easter restricts the bus service and moped license testing, fortunately the staff were very helpful in arranging taxis and shuttles.

Staff and room was great !! the beach and the use of snorkle and SUP boards was great.

The breakfast was very average,,,,, no point in getting that add on... We ended up going to cafe's for breaky as it was much nicer,

Everything was great. Amazing view from our room. Staff were always cleaning and there was always someone available at the bar or reception to answer any questions or help out. Breakfast was yummy. Fresh fruit, breads, croissants, cereal, yogurt. Beach out the front was beautiful for swimming in. Will definitely be back here next time we visit.

Fantastic hotel, amazing staff and beautiful swimming lagoon. Rooms were great, huge comfy bed and amazing air con. Great food and drinks and the service was fantastic

Meals were only soso, breakfast was only basic and the same every morning would be nice to have some variety, maybe something hot other than pancakes.

The pool area was really nice and all the bar staff were extremely friendly. Having the option to use both the Rarotongan side and the sanctuary was great as I had friends staying in both areas

The reception staff were extremely rude and hard to deal with over very small tasks, was extremely disappointing. I believe the poor reception service tainted my experience. I also had a sink in my beachfront room that didn’t drain and took reception two days and many visits to the front desk to sort maintenance for me.

Reception team seem understaffed with long waits to checkin, checkout and just in general waiting to ask questions. Generally not a warm and welcoming bunch. 🥺
