not very cozy. cold lights in the room, old mosquito nets and stained sheets. very dark room as Well. we didnt get the best or friendliest welcome but in the owners defense we arrived late around midnight.

I am very glad that I stayed here! My worries were washed away by the ocean wave and I forgot about all my problems. Special thanks to the hosts, they were always caring and responsive.And in the evenings it was cool to sit and chat to the sound of the ocean. Very homely atmosphere and warm. Excellent delicious cuisine! Gorgeous ocean views, and sunsets! Surf spot and board rental right in front of the hotel. Upon arrival, I seem to have messed up with the booking, but this did not become a problem at all, all issues are solved easily here. So you can just trust and let the situation go. In general, I think it doesn't matter if you travel alone or with your family / loved one, it will be really comfortable here and you won't want to leave. By the way, there are many regular guests who come again every year. They come back from all over the world here.

Lovely people running this hotel! We had breakfast here every morning and we were over the moon when we saw our beach view would definitely recommend and stay again.

Nice location right on the beach. Good breakfast and restaurant. Nice sunbeds that you can use on the beach. Kind hosts.

Wifi did not work in our room. It was also a bit noisy. The bed was a little uncomfortable.

Great place, right on the beach. Our room was clean. Room with balcony, also has 2 fans, but without electricity was really hot inside. The best in this booking was their restaurant, nice prices and soo yummy food.

Rooms was in the baaack of the building, so no connect with sea :)) but it was OK

The Restaurant was incredible, The stuff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable and clean. The location is perfect.

The hotel is run by a sri lankan family, which is so nice and helpful! They always have a smile for you and help with everything! Hotel is perfectly direct on the beach and the food is also so tasty! The room was really clean! The value for money for accomodation is really really good! Definitely recommend this place!

first of all it’s right on the beach. This family run hotel serves great food compared to other spots on the Hikkaduwa beach and everyone is super friendly. There is a Surfschool in front of the hotel which is run by family. So if you are planning a surf lesson and you are staying at Universal it’s worth to negotiate a price for the surf lesson. The surf teachers are real professionals and will take care of you. Hence Hikkaduwa has some strong surf and impressive waves.

I stayed in a room downstairs with garden view. which can be noisy in the morning. so if you went out for a party. use some ear plugs to sleep in.

The location is perfect, right at the main beach. The room was nice, with a terrace overlooking the beach. The host was very friendly and helpful. We had initially booked for 2 nights only but as soon as we arrived and saw the room and location, we decided to extend our stay. The food at the restaurant is one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. I totally recommend staying at Universal.

We started our trip to Sri Lanka in Hikkaduwa. This place was perfect. The hosts were the nicest people ever, they even gave us a new year present, the food was the best we ate in Hikkaduwe in 5 days. You have to try the mixed noodles!

a bit shabby, toilet seat was broken and fixed with tape, which smelled very bad. disorganised staff, our room wasn’t ready at the check in time, they gave us wrong key. I came at 7.15 to drink coffee before surfing, lady gale me that breakfast starts at 8, when I was passing by at 7.40 some people were already eating. very unpleasant lady is working at the hotel, didn’t say even hello
