With a gorgeous view on one of the Northwood's most beautiful chain of lakes. I've never stayed in a cottage where every guest need has been so well provided for--beds, kitchen, boats, videos, games. While modern in design it was also warm, cozy, and appropriate to a woods and lake setting. Immaculately cared for and clean as well.

This was our second trip and once again loved the property. The views overlooking the lake are wonderful. We also enjoyed canoeing on the lake.

This cabin was absolutely perfect! Vey quiet and peaceful. We loved sitting on one of the 2 decks and enjoyed the view of the lake. We brought our boat and enjoyed exploring the lake and others nearby. We also used their canoe and kayaks which was really fun! The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which was very nice since there was 4 adults. The kitchen was fully stocked with coffee, tea, spices cooking oil, and plenty of pots and pans. The cabin was very quaint with all things Norwegian! The owner was so nice and responded very quickly to messages. I would highly recommend this rental. We hope to visit again.

It is a beautiful cabin with the high ceiling that extents to 2 different decks that are secluded shady spots to have your coffee and listen to the loons. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The dining room table was a nice spot to play games and eat. We loved our stay!

The Little Piece of Scandinavia in the North Woods is a little piece of water and woods heaven. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The cabin is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. It was so clean and comfortable/cozy and well equipped with everything you would want/need when living in the woods and on the lake. We spent most of the time on the dock and in the water with kayaks and canoe and paddle board -- the water was warm and clear and when winter rolls around we will reminisce about the refreshing jumps off the end of the dock after soaking in the warm sunshine. We cooked great meals in the kitchen that is better equipped than our own and we visited a couple of delicious restaurants and supper-clubs not too far from the cabin. With coffee in hand we watched sunrises and spectacular sunsets right on the patio decks of the cabin. We will for sure return -- we feel so fortunate to have found this lovely spot. Thank you!

This property was perfect for everyone in our party (we had teenagers and adults). From the minute we walked in everything was so clean and very comfortable. Every need or want we had was available from the kitchen to the outdoor activities. Communication with the hosts was so easy through email. We would love to stay here again and have already started searching for open dates. We watched so much wildlife from the patios and large windows. Thank you for opening your cabin and sharing so much of your Norwegian heritage, we very much enjoyed all of the decorations and pieces from Norway!

Good stay

Our stay at Bakkestua was perfect. We were mesmerized from the start by all the amazing views from the many windows and two decks. Every day we saw beautiful sunsets and moonrises, heard the loons calling, owls hooting, and the frogs singing in the bay. We kayaked through the two channels to explore all of the lakes. Clear lake was so quiet and peaceful it felt like we had it all to ourselves. The neighbors were very friendly. We had a campfire by the lake each night with plenty of good firewood available. The Norwegian decor and great space added so much to the experience. We really enjoyed cooking all of our meals in the lovely kitchen with the quality cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. Renting procedures were very clear and easy to follow. We had no questions or concerns during our stay. We went to town only once because Bakkestua was too nice to leave! We will definitely stay again.

The home was perfect for our stay! Lots of great amenities. If you are looking to do some fishing, allow yourself extra time/days to familiarize yourself with the lakes. Many of the areas of the lakes are shallow with thick weed beds. We ventured into Hayward, just a short 20 minute drive away. Hayward has nice downtown shopping area, including a great ice cream shop- West's Hayward Dairy!

The property is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. The cabin is very well equipped and maintained.

This is a truly special place. You can see from the photos how beautifully and thoughtfully it’s designed both inside and out but it’s also very well kept and well stocked. The beds are cozy, the towels are comfy, the TV and music systems were easy to use, the kitchen equipment high quality…I could go on all day. There were even fresh flowers! We can easily see returning to Bakkestua.

This was our third visit and we loved it again. The basement stays cool even in unseasonably warm days. The home is well stocked and the location on the lake is perfect. We relax the minute we pull in! Thank you!

We kayaked to three different lakes from Bakkestusa. From the deck we watched an eagle catch a fish out of the lake. We enjoyed the start of the fall leaf season on local trails. Beautiful and very quite.

We just returned from our stay at Bakkestua and are already looking forward to returning next year. You can't help but get excited the moment you pull up to the cabin. Clean, cozy and the most charming Scandinavian décor. Stocked with everything you need for your stay- inside and outside. Beautiful lakes views from every room. Smooth check in/check out. Enjoyed great fishing, swimming at the sandbar on Little Spider and lakeside evening fires. Thank you Ellen and Paul.

We all had a nice time, the house was well stocked and supplied. We hardly ever left but that was our plan. Enjoyed the kayaks and convenient to leave our boat in the water the whole week. We all felt right at home.

The entire experience was easy, start to finish. This is a very special place.

Very peaceful location. Loved the kayaks, canoe & fishing. This home is very roomy and comfortable- can't wait till our next stay. Loved the deer that visited the area and the calling of the loons .

This is a magical place to visit. It exceeded all our expectations in every way. The cabin was cozy and beautiful, the views from the decks were amazing and it felt very private and quiet. Getting up in the morning for a cup of coffee on the deck and then heading out for a quiet canoe ride while enjoying all the fall colors was perfection.

Owners were wonderful. Excellent home, very clean and tons of amenities. Check in/out was very smooth and location was great. Home is also in a private location with really good views inside and out.

Our family enjoyed our second visit to Bakkestua. Once again, we had a wonderful relaxing time at this lovely property. Working with Ellen is so easy and we look forward to coming back next summer!!
