We stayed for a long weekend in April 2024. The check in process and communication from Emily before during and after our stay was great! We LOVED the views and the dock was great for our rented pontoon boat. Highly recommend!

We had a very relaxing stay with an amazing view of the lake. It was so relaxing. The game room was a wonderful asset for the children and the outside amenities were very nice to have as well. I appreciated how responsive the owners were to all of my questions. We will definitely come back and can’t wait for that time to come!

Our family takes a trip every spring as our Christmas present to each other. This is the second year we’ve gone to a mountain area and this house was by far the best! There was so much room both inside and out for us all to be together or have some time alone. My niece and nephew loved the game room! The property could not have been more beautiful. The house is gorgeous. I can’t say enough things about how wonderful our short trip was.

The location on Smith Mountain Lake provided beautiful views from all angles. The property was well maintained, stocked with all the necessities, and had plenty of space for large family gatherings.

One of the most beautiful views of the lake. So many spaces for gathering. Such a private feel. 60th wedding anniversary with 14 people and a few pups staying at the house and 2 more drop ins for 4 days and we never felt like we were on top of each other. Even played Hoopla with all 16 in the main living space and we still had room for the pups. Well equipped kitchen. Never lacked for anything. A fantastic experience. Hoping to do it again next year!

Everyone had a wonderful time, great quiet location. Everything you need to have a great time.

We have been staying at houses on SML for over 20 years. This is by far the best experience we have had. I house has lots of space a great open common area upstairs and the basement setup with the games and big screen was a giant hit with the kids, 8 to 16. The docks are perfect, water clean and deep off the docks. I would highly recommend.

We had a great time at this beautiful home on the lake. we swam off the dock every day, took walks in the neighborhood and enjoyed the wildlife. Lots of Deer and birds to look at. Wonderful home with a great view.

The location is private and peaceful. We enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks. House was roomy and laid out in a way that gave family members their own space. View was spectacular!

Emily and Mark make you feel right at home! Beautiful property in a fabulous location! Everything we could have needed was there, from paddle boards and inner tubes, to trash bags and cleaning supplies. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience and we will definitely be back!

We had a great couple of days at the lake and enjoyed every minute of the home.

Chateau Relaxeau was the perfect lakehouse for our family of 13. From the size to the supplies, all was great. The kitchen is so well stocked with just about anything you need. We had a wonderful stay!

Beautiful views of Smith Mountain Lake. Nice dock, in fact two. Rented boat for relaxing cruises around lake. Also enjoyed kayaks and paddle boards. Fishing was good. House was comfortable and clean. Well stocked with everything we needed. Correspondence with owners was great. Made us feel very welcome. Would go back for sure!

We had a great time. The home is well appointed with everything you might need. The cell phone charging pad is a nice touch. Beautiful views both during the day and night. Fire pit offers a relaxing time with wood provided and comfortable and ample seating. We enjoyed that with the chilly nights. Loved sitting out on the side deck too at the big table. If we were to go back to this area of SML, we would definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely house with a gorgeous view of the lake from the Penhook peninsula. Adults can congregate and chat upstairs while the kids make lots of noise downstairs. We had just about everything we needed, although previous visitors left a lot of disorganized kitchen drawers and towels we had to sort out Definitely a great place for a family getaway over Thanksiving.

Excellent place to stay when in area

We were blown away with this house and the hospitality of the owners. The kids and adults LOVED the kayaks and paddleboards. There was plenty of beds for everyone. Everything was very clean, and the kids had a great time with the games, telescope and they had their own TV downstairs which was nice! We built a fire every night and enjoyed the view of the beautiful moon. So much to do and enjoy about this property! We will stay here again!

The property was beautiful with amazing access to water. Both the teens and young children were all well entertained. The space was beautiful and secluded!

We had a FANTASTIC time at “Chateau Relaxeau” The place was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed to make delicious meals! The property had lots of items to enjoy inside as well as out on the lake. And the views were beautiful! The owners were very responsive and nice to deal with. No complaints at all, everything was just perfect!

We truly enjoyed our stay. Mark and Emily were great at communicating. The kids loved the downstairs arcade. Some of our favorite features were the double oven kitchen, the massive couch with huge TV, the gorgeous lake and mountain views, and the fire pit.

Enjoyed the property for our mini family reunion! What a view!!! Look forward to coming back when it is a bit warmer so we can explore the lake. Well stocked kitchen lent it self to a terrific & easy Thanksgiving dinner! Thank you!

This place had beautiful views and with it being peak fall, with the Fall colors in full bloom, it was just gorgeous! We had a fantastic time with kayaking, fire pit, went hiking (closest hiking is about an hour ++ away), and lots of fishing. The fishing wasn't great... only caught a 2" Bluegill and a 6" bass from the dock after 4 days of trying. So we chartered a boat ("Captain Bert") where we still only caught one 32" Stripped bass (Yummy dinner!!) and LOTS of games. The house was very clean and well equipped!! It has almost anything and if something is missing.... well... you probably don't really need it. Some of us kayaked to the little island that you can see from the house and beyond. It was just such a wonderful time away and we just couldn't get enough of the views. The owners are VERY responsive and helpful. Thank you for a great time! We highly recommend the place.

Property has great outdoor space and walkout basement with lots of activities to keep kids entertained. Nice open living space with beautiful views and multiple sleeping options. Owners were accessible and very accommodating. We spent a lot of enjoyable time at the fire pit. Was an excellent family vacation!

This property was ideal for our family of five adults plus our young baby grandchild and our dog. We loved the location, the layout of the rooms in the house, including lots of bathrooms, the view from the main living room, and the twin decks. The mattresses were much more comfortable than what one normally gets in vacation rentals. We had a nice time at night at the fire pit and appreciated the great big screen TV with premium channels. All around, a five star vacation rental experience.

The location is great. Lovely dock with lake access. We rented a boat and used their kayaks which was a lot of fun. The game room downstairs was also fun. Emily was very responsive and nice. What is majorly lacking in this house: 1. Cleanliness-the house did not feel clean overall. We were surprised by this based on how much we paid for the house. We expected gleaming countertops and floors, clean carpet, no dust etc. The first day we got there we discovered 2 rotten bananas in the dish towel basket which I brought to Emily’s attention and she was apologetic. The grills weren’t clean upon our arrival either and we only ended up using them twice as a result. Also all 3 propane tanks were low but Emily was apologetic and reimbursed us for this. It just seemed like no one was prepared for our arrival. 2. At this price point, we also expected a well stocked kitchen, nicer pillows, towels, mattresses. We ate in every day because we know SML isn’t a foodie town. The pans are in terrible shape-they were warped and were difficult to cook on. The Tupperware was old and the lids were flimsy. We made a 2 hour Walmart run on our first full day and discovered when we got back that there were no kitchen trash bags in the house aside from the ones that were in the trash cans themselves. Again Emily was apologetic but this was still annoying given that we just spent 2 hours grocery shopping at Walmart only to come home and find there were no bags. We made several trips to the store for items that should’ve been provided for in the house and that have been provided for us in other homes we rented in SML and Deep Creek like decent toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags. The towels need to be replaced. TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Costco have good towel sets that aren’t pricey. The towels we used were bordering on thread-bare. 3. This house definitely needs a second refrigerator. This house can accommodate a lot of people and presumably folks are going to cook all their meals like us. So a second fridge is very important especially for large groups like ours who spend 7 days here. Overall, it’s a great location with a lot of fun stuff included. I strongly suggest getting a better cleaning company and replacing all of the cookware and towels. Or lowering your price point.
