Peaceful location and atmosphere was nice. There was really great view from the balcony and nice small beach. Breakfast was served to your balcony if requested.
Place need little bit update (some small fixes here and there, nothing major). It was quite hard get food served at lunch time so we went to the other restaurant. Breakfast was possible to be ordered to your own balcony by leaving a note (given at check-in) to the box in front of your room. No one collected our notes so it was a little confusing. We gave note straight to the restaurant afterwards and then everything worked like a charm.

It's a beautiful hotel with a private beach which we enjoyed for morning swims. Everyone raves about Playa Norte and with good reason as it is amazing, but we also truly loved the beach at the hotel as we had it all to ourselves the times we were there. The rooms were comfortable. AC did the job keeping us nice and cool. Hotel staff was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed having breakfast in our room balcony.
The included continental breakfast could be better. It kind of forces you to get additional items that you have to pay for. The property is about a 10 min taxi ride from playa Norte and the city center and this could be an issue for some as paying for taxis back and forth adds up. However we did enjoy being away from the crowds and enjoying quiet nights.

Loved the friendliness of the staff and how pleasant everyone was.
There wasn't a railing to go to the cove. It wasn't an issue for me but could be for others.

The staff are great. They bring your breakfast to your room every morning. The pool and the beach access are amazing.

la Joya is a gem. It’s just as described - a boutique hotel overlooking the Mediterranean. Plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the view of the Sea. Our room (#4) was comfortable and clean with a lovely view of the Sea from the room and the deck. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was a welcome amenity. Breakfast was served every morning on the deck- a wonderful way to start the day. La Joya is located in a very quiet part of the island, with few restaurant options, which wasn’t an issue for us. Taxis are plentiful to get all around the island.
The majority of the staff were very friendly and super helpful, although the man who I think was the manager was curt. I felt like I was bothering him each time I interacted with him. They didn’t have any snorkeling gear. The process for ordering breakfast - submit a paper request every day- is very outdated. It was hard to remember to do it and there seemed to be miscommunication between the reception staff and the kitchen. They are working on updating it.

beautiful place in one of the best parts of town. food was great, and so were the drinks.
our room wasn’t exactly what was advertised; boats docking right in front of the hotel blasting music is annoying, and the bar spent several hours unmanned, leaving us waiting to get a drink

comfy bed, extremely clean units (I remarked it was the cleanest hotel I’d ever stayed at,) great views from pool area, friendly staff, tasty breakfast. I enjoyed that it was removed from the craziness in playa Norte. the manager was especially accommodating to minor requests.
the taxis to playa Norte for dinner and nightlife did start to add up by the end.

Pretty little hotel with nice views to the sea. Room and beds very comfortable. Balconies a lovely place to hang out in the shade. Pool lovely and walk down to the sea gave you swimming and snorkeling all to yourself. Service fantastic. Thank you Hector and Miguel.
Next stay, will plan to be offsite when the party boats anchor off shore.

The view of the ocean was beautiful. It was so relaxing to eat breakfast each morning on the deck overlooking the ocean. We stayed around for lunch on a rainy day and had delicious fish tacos and ceviche.

The resort has such a lot of character; perfect setting if you prefer to be in the quiet part of the island, with stunning ocean views; the staff is the best part: the barman Miguel 'little mikey', Montze, Eduardo, Elvis, the cook, cleaning lady, both managers, the owner and all of the others!
Nothing to dislike!

Family hotel with access to a beautiful beach and amazing see! That was the place where we had best swim in the island. The balcony where breakfast was served were both stunning
Decoration is bit outdated

I certainly didn’t appreciate all the litter and garbage on the NOT SO PRIVATE BEACH, or that the ugly yard waste was thrown in front of the deck viewing area, or that the shade umbrellas were ripped and broken because staff never takes them down at night and get blown down. Or that the staff sit and relax around the bar and pool. I also didn’t appreciate the lack of security, the public has access to the property day and night, there’s no lock or gate to keep them out. I went down to the beach to watch the sunrise and there were 3 drunk men passed out w bottles everywhere! Not very safe!!! These drunks had total access to the property, a gate sure would be a lot safer for guests.
Overpriced for lack of security, a filthy beach, I picked up empty beer and vodka bottles daily, it would be nice if ANYONE would sweep the rocks and sand off the stairs, sooooo painful!!

We visited when the weather was bad, but even with the rain, the view was gorgeous. The grounds are beautiful. Oswaldo, Hector, and the restaurant staff were very pleasant and helpful. The beds are comfortable. We loved having breakfast on the terrace. We weren't able to swim, but having beach access and free use of the kayaks is a definite plus. The area was peaceful and quiet.
We booked during Christmas week, so I understand the rates being high, but I think they were very high for the quality of the room which was rather dated. We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace but the coffee was lukewarm (we even took it back and it still wasn't hot), the fresh juice was watered down, and the bread was so-so). The water pressure in the shower was low, and adjusting the temperature was tricky. With all that being said though, I'd still come back. And with a few changes, I'd give this place a 10.

Amazing ocean view, easily access to snorkeling from the front beach. Bed is clean and comfortable. You can walk to another snorkeling place.
shower system needs a bit work. we figured it out😅 after several trying

Room was spacious and very clean! Balcony was amazing as well!
Staff friendly and helpful with arranging taxis (is at the bottom of the island).
it is quite dated…. no real facilities about.
breakfast included was not even worth claiming as breakfast - a couple of rolls and some fruit. we also had no running water in shower, taps or toilet for a night/morning.

location is great and away from all the hustle and bustle
besides kitchen staff and server, staff is not as attentive. we waiting almost one hour before we could check in because there was no one at the lobby. Management needs to provide additional help for kitchen staff. There was one server whom doing a phenomenal job attention to all customers in the kitchen while also tending to room service! We were there after our check-in time. On one occasion we waiting over 30 mins for a taxi and had to end up going out to the min road to stop one. We’re repeat customers but doubt we will return on the next one.

why we gave 4 and not 0 out of ten: beautiful view, beautiful little beach right below (it’s a public place though and there is some garbage and glass, so be careful. but blame people, not the hotel). private terraces, room was comfi (except for the mold, see below) Friendly staff.
there was mold in the bathroom, mold in the curtains and when you looked closer also mold in the walls, some of it painted over. that was absolutely unacceptable. When we told the manager, he told us there was no other room available. We got a 50 dollar discount for food but no refund. Everybody was very friendly though. Still, this room shouldn’t be rented, let alone for this price. I don’t know about the other rooms, they might be fine…

Beautiful views from semi-private terrace off the room. Lovely pool with shade, and great set up with the bar and sitting areas. Nice access to the sea for snorkeling and swimming. Nice location on the southern side of the island if you're looking for peace and quiet, but highly recommend renting a motorbike or golf cart.
Staff were hit-or-miss. Service at the bar and pool varied and really depended on who was working that day. Pillows in the bed were very uncomfortable in my opinion.

The place is beautiful - the view is amazing and the hotel looks great.
The pool is really nice and there's a small beach below.
The location is far from downtown and the main beach. There are not many good options for restaurants nearby.
The breakfast included is very basic, and the food available at the hotel is expensive

Beautiful hotel built into cliff side. Breakfast on terrace or restaurant daily provided by amazing staff. Views directly on water with kayaks available to use. Quiet location near Punta Sur, which made for amazing sunset views!

This hotel was a gem. We are so glad we found it. While checking different hotels for Isla Mujeres, we had a hard choice between opting for an all included resort (but it was so expensive) or opting for something cheaper that would enable us to enjoy more activities. It was hard to decide because the reviews were not always explicit. But let me convince you: we had a perfect stay at La Joya.
The view is just STUNNING. From the swimming pool, you can enjoy a very wide and bright view on the ocean. We orderer a few drinks at the bar from the pool, which were very good. Then you can enjoy the sun on the terrace facing the ocean, or go snorkeling in the ocean. We saw fishes and a ray just going in the water from the hotel!
They serve breakfast on the terrace of your room, so it really feels private and like a nest. We really loved the guy who served breakfast! He was 17 years old and so nice. Congrats and best wishes to him! Every room comes with a terrace with an ocean view and with a hammac.
We asked to have two rooms next to one another and they gave us it!
The guy at the reception was not so helpful and the restaurant is not appealing at all (don't count on it). It is 150 pesos to get to the center of the city. There is not a "beach" for a rock access to the water.

Very pretty. Great view and beach. very good poolside bar and restaurant with friendly and helpful staff
our toilet didn’t flush for the first 16 hours. Then when it was fixed the cistern leaked all over the floor. the shower was a trickle. Cold water came out of both taps. On the second day the whole shower fixing came out of the wall

I like the view and that they had kayaks.
A lot of MOLD in the room which is unacceptable. We had to ask for another room. One of the guys in the office wanted to charge us for the kayak use which was complementary as per other employee. The breakfast included was not good.

Outdated facility, stingy breakfast
7.0 / 10.0
The location, the view, and the beach are amazing.
My room was nice and clean, although outdated as the rest of the property.
Except for the 2 guys from the reception, the rest of the staff is abysmal.
The guy that works at the bar is the worst employee in the whole of Mexico. He told us we can't have dinner because they close at 6 (the reception later told us they actually close at 20:30 and dinner is available). The same guy told us they don't have coffee. They also didn't bring the Coke to my friend and when she asked about it 30-minutes later they told her, they don't have ice. So, they didn't have coffee, ice, and dinner.
After I complained to the receptionist, they said they have coffee. It took some back end forth to convince the guy downstairs to actually make it.
Alas, in the morning I asked for the same cappuccino but they brought me a 3-in-1 disgusting supermarket powder, that I literally spat out (and had that terrible after taste for the entire day).
My aircon broke and the maintenance guy waited till I checked out to fix it. I'd appreciate it if he did it while I was there since he already had with him the broken part replacement and it was super hot.
