We love the stone school - awesome location, great property and wonderful hosts! This is our second year coming and we'll be back next year!

We stayed with our 3 kids (2, 5, 7). The owners had a safety gate for our little ones and they enjoyed playing with all the toys and the actual school to play school in! We all slept upstairs (we brought a travel crib) with the older two children sharing the upstairs day bed (there are more beds downstairs but the kids preferred being with us). Having the kitchen and dining table was very convenient and the cottage had nice touches like soft towels and a well stocked coffee machine. The location is great for skiing. It’s under 10 mins to Jiminy and there are restaurants, a country store, and a coffee shop very close by. The owners are super helpful, flexible, and communicative.

The house was very clean, thoughtfully decorated and filled with history. The host was very responsive and made us feel welcome. There were a plenty of toys for my two kids to play with; they were never bored inside the house. The kitchen had everything you needed which my wife and I appreciated. Agreeing with with the prior reviewer that it was a perfect central base for exploring the Berkshire area. Overall, it was a special, unique experience.

Wonderful former schoolhouse, filled with interesting antique finds, furniture and decor - brought into the 21st century with care and a sensitive balance between preservation of historic character and modern conveniences to make our stay both comfortable and special. Rich was the perfect host, communicative and helpful but unobtrusive and respectful of our privacy. The location was a perfect central base for our weeklong exploration of the surrounding Berkshire region!

We stayed at this property Sept 9 - 11th, and it was wonderful! Staying in a historical building that is certainly beloved by the community was a unique experience. You can sit and read all about the history of the school which is also provided. The home was extremely clean and the owners put special touches like fresh cut flowers in all the rooms and it is beautifully decorated and welcoming. The setting is perfect near a horse farm and just a few minutes from Mt. Greylock which we hiked on Saturday. The owner is so nice and checks in to make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely stay there again, and I highly recommend this property.

Quiet, lovingly restored and designed, the loft-like space above the charming schoolroom in this historic stone building is a wonderful base for exploring the Berkshires. The hosts have thought of every comfort. Truly a gem.

Could not have been better - convenience to Lenox and Williamstown, privacy, great hosts. Good to be cool on a humid weekend.

I loved it. It is a very special place. We used it as a base for a cultural weekend. For Museums we went to Mass MoCA in North Adams, and the Clark in Williamstown. We also saw a dance performance at Jacobs Pillow, and on Saturday we saw the BSO at Tanglewood. I pulled a hamstring the day before we left, so I was not up for hiking. However, Mt. Greylock started at the end of the road that we were on, and the Pittsfield state forest was only a short ride away, as was Jiminy peak, where in the past we hiked in all these locations. Just a great place, and I will be looking to go there again next summer.

We had a great stay at the stone school house! Fun to look around and see the history of the place and read about some of the students who have come back to visit.

We enjoyed our stay mostly we occupied the upstairs. Bathroom downstairs shower and toilet area a bit small. Stairs getting down we’re negotiable but a little tricky at night. Overall accommodations were as specified in Vrbo website. We were only hoping there would be less traffic outside of the house during the day. Farm tractors nearby at times. Owners were always very available checked on us periodically. They were very friendly and also left us with a nice bottle of wine. Sleeping at night was lovely with the windows open temperatures were perfect. Waking up to the sounds of neighing horses or roosters in the background. We would recommend for a couple getting away for a long weekend as we did.

The downstairs is like a trip back in time, but also a lovely place to hang out with huge, gorgeous windows letting in the winter light, a comfy day bed, and a desk. Upstairs is like it’s own large studio apartment and a good place to get comfy with some takeout and tv. If you’re looking for a surprisingly roomy spot for a quiet getaway, I’d highly recommend the school house.

The Stone School Cottage was an incredible find - beautiful, comfortable, well-appointed, super clean, and the softest bath towels I’ve ever encountered. Located on the road to Mt. Greylock, this gem was close enough to town to make grabbing essentials super convenient, but far enough out to provide the peace and quiet we were looking for. The farm down the street, with its collection of rescue animals (donkeys and alpacas and horses!), was an added bonus. Hosts Rich and Cheryl were just a text away. Really loved our weekend here.

The other reviewers are spot-on when they say this school-converted-cottage takes you back in time. If you want to feel like you’re staying in small town America and you’ve been spoilt by the comforts of the city, you’ll love this place. It has everything you need for a weekend getaway. Rich communicated really well and made our check-in/check-out process really smooth. He also offered a late check out as there was no one else checking-in after us. We never really had issues during our stay.

If I had to describe this place in one word, it would be "Magical". The Stone School Cottage is a time machine that takes you back anywhere between 50-150+ years. By far the most unique place I have ever stayed at. I am pushing 30 and I felt like I was 7 again. The location is ideal for the Berkshire and walking distance from the entrance to Mount Greylock. The cottage is well equipped. Rich was an excellent host. Super communicative and attentive. I will most definitely be returning to this wonderful place.

Perfect! Charm, location, friendly hosts. Would absolutely recommend. One of a kind historic schoolhouse made it fun and interesting!

We stayed at the Stone School Cottage for our 21st anniversary and had such an enjoyable stay. Communication prior to arrival was great. Our host Rich was extremely helpful and greeted us when we arrived. The cottage is an old one room school house and is tastefully done with period pieces. The classroom downstairs is filled with a lot of historical photos and written history and also has beautiful modern photos as well. The living quarters are upstairs with a four-poster bed and small kitchen (stairs are somewhat steep but have good handrails). The bathroom is downstairs and a little quirky in nature. Neither of these was a game breaker but something to consider if you have difficulty negotiating stairs. Very convenient location (25-30 minutes to Lenox and 20-25 minutes to Williamstown and a short drive to Greylock State Park). Neighbors have mini horses and alpacas within walking distance down the road which was a bonus for us as we are both horse/animal lovers. Would recommend this rental with two thumbs up (make that four thumbs up) and will definitely book again if/when planning a trip to the Berkshire’s.

We chose the stone school cottage as a base to pick up our kids from their different music camps (either in Vermont or nearby town), and then did two days touring, one to MassMoCA, and one to the nearby Mt. Greylock. The location & the house were ideal to our family of 5. The best part was to meet the hosts Rich and Cheryl -- very generous with their time, very responsive to our needs, and very thorough to stock kitchen items. Netflix is a plus to my 12 and 16 year olds. Our dog-loving daughter had a pleasure to meet and walked with their friendly dog Maya while we were chatting with Rick and Cheryl. If there is one thing to improve in the future, it is the stove which I had a hard time to put frying pan evenly, but if you don't cook much or use oven instead, it is not an issue. We certainly will rent again if wanting a air-conditioned place instead of campsite in Berkshires. Again, thank you very much Rich and Cheryl for providing such a unique place and we had a great stay!

We were so impressed with how well appointed the Stone School Cottage was, everything we needed was provided. The owners were welcoming and made themselves available should we need anything else. We so enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future.
