Great location and great hospitality from the owner!

Great family vacation. The Byrd Sanctuary is exactly as advertised. We were all very comfortable in the home. We appreciated all the beach chairs and beach toys that were available. The house is very close to all the wonderful things Duck has to offer. The house is a great value and we look forward to another trip to the Byrd Sanctuary in the future. Thank you Bryan!

Property is well maintained and convienient to beaches, restaurants and others activities in the Duck area. We especially enjoyed the decks of an evening watching the sunsets while enjoying our family.

This was our first time renting a vacation house as a family and we really enjoyed The Byrd Sanctuary. Very nice property. Well-equipped. Great location. Short walk to the beach and/or sound. Short bike ride on multi-use path to Duck helped to avoid traffic. The beach cart and beach supplies (chairs, umbrella, toys) are a big plus.

We enjoyed staying in Duck at this house. It was very nice and had everything we needed to cook several meals. The stairs were sometimes a bit much when we were tired but it is a lovely house with great views of the sound and the ocean. Very quiet neighborhood also.

We had a trip of 7 adults (ages 56-67) and the property was great!! It met all of our needs and was very spacious! The deck was large and where we spent every evening. We cooked meals in a well stocked kitchen and had a large table to gather around for meals and games! We thought it was awkward that the TV was in the smaller, secluded living area, but turns out that was a good thing! We did not walk in every evening and immediately turn on the TV….instead we sat on the deck and enjoyed everyone’s company! This property is definitely one that I would recommend and would stay in again!!! Great place! No disappointments or concerns!

We had a lovely time here. I would describe the property as "thoughtful". It seemed designed with little touches that made the stay more enjoyable, like the taps outside to wash feet, and the hammocks. It was a lovely stay.

Our family enjoyed our stay in Duck. Home was as advertised, great location, and very nice accommodations. Check in/out super easy and appreciate the Sunday-Sunday rental timeframe. Thank you.

Beautiful house. Property manager is very helpful. Perfect location. We rented bikes and biked to restaurants and town. BYO supplies ie. soaps, trash bags, salt, & More TP. etc. Beach supplies were wonderful!! We had the perfect visit and will definitly stay here again.

This house was absolutely amazing. Every possible thing you could need was provided including towels, cooking supplies and utensils and even a waffle maker. We will definitely be coming back when we are in the area again. Thanks so much Bryan.

What a wonderful stay! The house is very clean and comfortable and the many extras (such as cookware, beach toys, movies, etc) were very much appreciated! Can't wait to visit again!

We had a wonderful time! The house was everything we wanted in a vacation home! So beautiful!

This would definitely have been a five star rating except for one complaint. But more about that later. First the positives.: The location is absolutely great. The view from the top deck is amazing. The walk to the beach is quick and easy, and the sound access is extremely nice. The house is clean, with the exception of what appears to be mold around the kitchen faucet. That situation should be addressed. The decor is Miami-Vice retro, but is very well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked. There are adequate linens supplied. There are plenty of beach accessories supplied, as well as a cart to take everything to the beach. The deck furniture is very comfortable. Now for the one negative. The leasing agreement states that the home needs to be cleaned by the lessee and left ready for the next guest. This includes not only putting the dishes in the dishwasher and running it ( which is common in many vacation rentals) but also emptying the dishwasher. This can create a time crunch at departure. (BTW, no dishwasher or dishwashing liquid was provided. We had to make a special trip to the store.) The floors are also supposed to be vacuumed and swept. Counters are also supposed to be wiped down. Honestly, we’ve always made sure that we leave any place where we stay in good condition, and we have always cleaned up, swept up or vacuumed up any mess that we made. However, we generally have not been expected to clean vacation housing to the point that it is actually ready for the next tenant. We’ve always assumed that was the responsibility of the cleaning service. Since the owner indicates that he has a cleaning service, we were confused by this requirement. Truthfully, all of these cleaning requirements made for a less than relaxed departure.

This beach house was very comfortable and the location was great! We are looking forward to returning.

The house met our expectations for our family of 8. The location was quiet and an easy walk to the beach. Bryan was very good at communication and willing to help if needed. The beach cart and equipment were nice extras to make our stay quite pleasant.

Thoroughly enjoyed stay at the Bird Sanctuary. The house met all of our needs and not having to bring beach umbrellas and chairs was very nice. The little ones had fun splashing in the sound. Thanks!

Perfectly natural girls getaway spot for Mom and two grown daughters. Decks galore and lots of good common space. Nice views of ocean (you can hear it, too!), sound, and plenty of birds to watch among the trees. Very well stocked kitchen. Awesome natural light. Comfortable beds. And we loved our interactions with property owner, Bryan, who was very helpful with area suggestions. Gorgeous nature trails in the area, too! We love Byrd Sanctuary and hope to return soon!

This rental experience gets my five stars because it met my beach town rental expectations, not because it’s the Ritz (it isn’t), but because it was clean, comfortable, reasonably well equipped. Extra points for the owner being pleasant and easy to work with. If you’re staying for more than a few days you may want to bring a few extra supplies, your own beach towels, your own pillows,, etc. Make it like home.

Once again we loved being at Byrd Sanctuary. Everything is so clean; appliances are abundant and work so well. There are special touches like books to read and games to play. Sunset views over the ocean and over the sound were magnificent! As we live in the mountains, Byrd Sanctuary is a very special place to us with a totally different environment that we love. We can hardly wait to return to this little bit of Heaven on Earth.

Property was immaculate. Bryan was great. checked in if everything was good. Will definitely rent his home again.

Bryan refunded our money promptly based on mandatory evacuation order prior to our arrival (property unavailable due to an act of nature). Will book again for next year, different season.

Our stay at the Byrd Sanctuary was just ok. Check in was fine, no problems. The house was easy to find, nice quiet neighborhood (end of the season). First thing we noticed were all the spider webs on the underside decking of the house and stairs leading up to the front door. We know that there are plenty of busy spiders outside, but it would be nice if the caretaker could knock down the webs when expecting new renters. Upon entering the home, the temperature was 69 degrees and the house had a musty smell. The house is dated - older looking furniture, low counters and toilets in the bathrooms. Not as clean as we had hoped...crumbs on the chairs in the dining area and couch, sand on the kitchen counter, and the dining room table is sticky. Like it wasn't varnished correctly or something. (We felt the need to wipe everything down before using). The lights over the table didn't work very well. The caretaker told us it was because of a dimmer switch, but after he left we had to jiggle the switch a couple of times before the light would come back on. Dropped a ring behind a dresser in one of the bedrooms, and found chicklets of gum and potato chips on the floor behind the dresser. Gross. Spiders and webs all over the house, on the lamps, on the ceilings, etc. (Once again, caretaker could knock these down once a week). But the thing that really made us squeamish were the huge water bugs (they look like cockroaches) that we encountered in several rooms of the house. We killed at least a half dozen. We would say an exterminator is definitely needed. We were pre-warned about the "fragile" vertical blinds on all the sliding glass doors. We had difficulty opening them, and were afraid to break them, so we didn't enjoy the deck furniture at all. We were bummed that the TV was in a different room than the open living/kitchen area. So overall, for the price we paid to stay here, we were disappointed. We did, however, enjoy the OuterBanks and all it has to offer. WRC 2019

Plenty of space and a short walk to the beach. Easy access to downtown Duck. Exactly what we were looking for in a vacation rental.

Our family had a wonderful beach vacation thanks to this lovely beach house! It was very spacious and clean, well-supplied and in a location just 5 houses from the beach. We would definitely stay there again!

We stayed at the Byrd Sanctuary for our family’s first ever trip to the Outer Banks. We loved the quick walk to the beach, and spent our time taking in the views on the deck with every dinner (and the abundance of stars that can be seen at night!). The house is very well maintained, and checking in and out was quick and simple. This property has our highest recommendation, and we will definitely be back to explore more of what Duck has to offer!

Loved the home. A short 4 minute walk to the beach. Clean home and responsive property manager. Only suggestion would be having some staples on hand like extra toilet paper, some soap and dish soap.
