La belleza de sus jardines y la vista a mar. También la enorme ventaja de que no hay escándalos de ejercicios en la piscina con el tun tun de unos parlantes a todo volumen, tampoco hay actividades nocturnas, así que no hay ruidos molestos, solamente el mar y los animales del bosque. EXCELENTE PARA DESCANSAR verdaderamente.

Las instalaciones un poco descuidadas, podrían ponerles un poquito de amor. También el entrenamiento de personal, les falta un poquito.

No variety of food, anything we asked for they didn’t have, cheese, ham, mushrooms etc.. Waited over an hour for a chicken dish, it came raw in the middle. Boring breakfast- always the same. No buffet. We booked a set menu for dinner with what was supposed to be a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains & 3 deserts but always 1 salad to start, choice of mains & always ice cream for desert. Very disappointed with the food. Dirty Plates, glasses, towels left by the pool area for days.

Someone got in our room and stole my ipad and 2 macs, my apple watch, and my wife's credit cards, apparently, the hotel doesn't have security during the day... and the thief was able to get to our room and get all our stuff and the hotel didn't do anything to prevent or to support us when we realized that our stuff wasn't there, in fact, we had to do everything on our end to get contacted with the police and recover our stuff, we ended up leaving early (checking out on Sunday morning) not on Monday that was the checkout day... we didn't get anything from the hotel in a sense of any compensation, return of money, or even an apology from the owner cus the manager that was there at the moment was totally useless, 5 days later and nobody from the hotel have reached out to me, I am still waiting for the compensation. or apology from the owner, or someone who can do something, our values and lives were violated and the fact that there's no security and no cameras in our room makes that place super insecure.

Fue una maravilla todo!!! Íbamos por dos noches y decidimos quedarnos dos más!!! El trato es súper especial , desde la Recepción con Fernanda, Isabel, Doria, pasando por restaurante con Karla, Manuel, e Isabel la chef q es increíble, hasta las señoras de la limpieza educadas y serviciales , todos absolutamente todos nos hicieron sentir como en casa!!! Tomamos suite con vista al mar , es muy cómoda y grande, con terraza, refrigerador y máquina Britt para café , y realmente fue increíble escuchar el mar todo el día y poder verlo!!! No es un mar para bañistas, debo aclarar, es peligroso, pero nuestra idea era verlo y escucharlo y caminar a la orilla en la arena!! Llevamos a nuestras pequeñas perritas y las recibieron con mucho cariño!!! Recomiendo absolutamente todo !!! Muchas gracias Sunset del Mar por esta estadía tan linda!!!

The manager Isabelle was kind and accommodating as well as the bartender wait staff. The room was spacious with a wonderful view to the beach. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was perfect

We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready because they double booked it and had to reaccommodate the couple that was staying in it. The manager assistants were cold in manner, unfriendly. We had reservations for 3 nights. We had stayed there over 15 years ago and it was wonderful then. The pool was cloudy and the filter ran only a couple hours a day. No one used the pool. The grounds were minimally kept and slowly deteriorating. They have many rooms on the property with only a few guests so we weren't sure why they were only renting out a few. The sheets didnt fit the bed so it was a battle to keep them on the mattress. Housekeeping was sub par : There was a pod coffee maker but we had to ask for coffee, sugar, creamer and coffee cups. They provided minimal towels so we had to ask for more, there were no tissues and when I asked for a box they said they didnt have any, they only give you one roll of toilet paper at a time. On the 1st full day there I gave the housekeeper a heafty tip hoping for a little more attention to the room however she never cleaned it -not even the bathroom- she only made the bed and changed the designated dirty towels. We tried dinner there one night and it was also disappointing. The air conditioner died the last night we were there, my husband tried the breaker, it went back on for 5 minutes however the condenser fan was not working and it died again, there were no staff in the entire facility as they leave at 8pm, and no one to contact (the main 2#s I called several times, no one answered). There was a security person at the entrance and he just threw his arms up stating he couldnt help nor he knew who to contact. There was also another couple that night whose key card didnt work and they couldnt get into their room which thank goodness the security was able to help them. Its really too bad that this resort is being neglected as it has so much potential. I hope that they're planning a turn around

Most comfortable bed of our entire trip! Room was very clean, and had great coffee. Large room with a nice patio with view of the garden and ocean. Pool was beautiful. Even got to see a sloth in the trees in the garden. Nice, small boutique hotel. Air conditioning worked great! We were very relaxed and felt safe the whole time. Beach was gorgeous! Nice seating at the beach and around the pool. Restaurant was good, as was the bar. Beautiful gardens. Lots of birds - loved that!!

There was mold and stains on washroom, spider nets, the room was dusty and the food in there was very bad. not recomende we supposed to stay 2 days and leave next day, supposed to get a refund and after two months still dealing with it ...

The location on the beach is really lovely. The beach is quite secluded. Based on previous reviews, the hotel has clearly improved the food and the pool - we pretty much had the pool to ourselves as it was just us and one other family at the hotel. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was good. The room was nice in a self-contained building and the bed was super comfortable. We got the interbus to the area - the hotel itself isn’t on the route but the one next door - Alma del Pacifico - is.

-Overpriced for what it is. I was expecting more luxury. -The service at the pool and dinner was very poor. We ordered drinks at the pool and I had to go up and chase and get them myself. We were the only ones in the restaurant for dinner as there were so few people staying at the hotel, so there was zero atmosphere. Strange for high tourist season. I asked for a margarita and was told no as the waitress didn’t know how to make one. The restaurant shuts at 8pm and the waitress started packing up in advance. -In stark contrast the waiter at breakfast was lovely and asked us if we wanted anything else which was so absent at dinner. -Although the room was lovely a lot of the resort seems a bit tired. The pool was lovely although strangely shallow. There is no tap to wash your feet from the beach and the shower area by the pool is dirty. -We paid for a sea view room which was mainly the view of another room’s building so not sure they should be charging full price for that. -A curious approach was that there were five loungers by the pool only two with cushions. I asked if we could get cushions for the other loungers and was just told no it’s first come first served. Bizarre.

Except for Mgr Francisco being so helpful, we could not get much service. Bar was depleted so Francisco went to the store for us. He helped with translation as no one else spoke English ((that's. OK) no pool towels after several requests.

The location was absolutely fantastic , right opposite an amazing beach stretching 15km. Our room /bungalow was extremely spacious. big comfortable bed. very clean. View of the ocean from our very private veranda. Nice en-suite shower room The staff were super helpful and friendly, especially Isobel and Luis

The swimming pool was dirty. the water was murky and had a slick of oil over the surface. couldn’t see the bottom of the pool clearly. no shower at the pool to allow guests to shower off prior to getting in the pool. The restaurant/ bar, whilst looking lovely and comfortable, didn’t have many things available on the menu. Apparently they had been very busy the past few days before we arrived and hadn’t yet restocked. We wanted to order wine by the glass , but they only had 1 bottle of white wine at an overinflated price so we declined to pay that. I tried to order a Pina Colada , only to be told they didn’t have any coconut cream. quite surprising in a country where coconuts abound and literally fall at your feet on the beach ( I know the hotel can’t make it themselves) They were not even able to supply a slice of fresh lime or lemon for a glass or water. Surely somebody could have jumped I. their car and gone to the nearest supermarket to get a few basics? The breakfast was really awful! no choices just given a small plate of fresh fruit to start ( probably the best part of breakfast). Next we were given a plate of eggs ( choice of scrambled or fried); rice and beans ; disgusting processed cheese; disgusting sausage that looked lilies it had been previously cooked then warmed up again; terrible cheap bread/toast. such a disappointment. This hotel could be absolutely fantastic but they really need to get their act together with the food. Not good enough for $160 per night. I’d love to go back again as it was so idyllic- but not unless they can offer a significantly better dining experience.

The place hasn’t been kept up in over 10 years. The rooms were dirty. The pool was disgusting. The grounds were unkept. The food was horrendous. The booking included free Breakfast and we dared not even try it after our lunch experience there. The staff did offer an extra day for compensation and there was no way I would stay even for free. Absolutely terrible.

Where to begin? I feel for the staff as they seemed to be trying their hardest to keep this resort afloat, but for the cost of the accommodations I was not happy with what was included. We arrived after check in time, our room was not ready. We got checked in after waiting 2 hours, our room was still relatively dirty with no towels, no coffee, no amenities restocked, broken fixtures in the bathroom, what I realized was a broker (and dirty) coffee pot. Upon asking the front desk for towels, we had to wait as towels were being washed. We attempted to hit the restaurant, we weren’t seated upon entering and once we sat down weren’t attended to by any staff. We waited 40 minutes then went elsewhere. Not super clean, garbage piles along some of the walkways, etc. Ultimately a lovely location, but the price needs to be altered to reflect the lack of amenities, cleaning, and attention to guests.

Nothing! It is dirty and disgusting! I am just speechlees! We tried four mounth before to cancel the room, but they said strictly no. no wonder because seams as they try to collect Money! for breakfast you are Not allowed to take more than once from the buffet! we looked ourselves by mistake at 8pm. But there. was Nobody at the reception, no at the Restaurant, there was no guard in his little house at the entrance!!!!! we called the Boss and after calling 15 times he picked up the phone and telling us he will call back immediately but Never did!!!!!!! we had to wait until the next Morning and had to sleep Outside!!!!!!!!!! we had also no shampoo and coffe in our room i have nothing more to say than . PLEASE don‘t ever go there.

It is on a lovely stretch of beach in Estirillos

We have been in four other properties here in Costa Rica over the past two months. This was supposed to be a 4 star highly rated by Booking.com resort. It is not! We have relied on booking.com to vet and ensure ratings given are accurate. Historically they have been and we also consider recent posted reviews before booking. We tried to give Sunset Del Mar the benefit of our initial doubts especially since we had already paid in advance. For $271 a night we received the following- Trash piled and scattered throughout property and staff blatantly ignored it. Towels left all over property with used glasses, bottles, etc. The kitchen flooded and stank unbelievably so we decided eating here would not be wise. Breakfast was included and that was a daily unpleasant offering including the ham and cheese sandwiches offered after the kitchen flood. Maid service was abysmal- couldn’t get towels regularly, had to pay a maid to scrub the septic back flow off the shower walls, random receipt of toiletries, no bath mat (recall there was a septic backflow). The room was overwhelming with mildew in furnishings, curtains, lamp shades, door jambs so I used up most of my own Lysol to try to mitigate it. Asked management twice to fix TV (Netflix is allegedly only TV available although Booking.com states cable tv), fix battery in safe, and finally just had to give up so we couldn’t secure our valuables. Many guests spent lengthy waits in lobby area for any assistance but none could be found unless you went and hunted for anyone that looked willing to try and assist. The website says no dogs but dogs were running around many off leash. The pool was murky with debris and who knows what else. Tiles falling off and pool light dangling in pool unsecured with electrical exposed. The pool bar is literally a cess pool. Cushions were randomly laying around the property for the whole week, mildewed and soiled.

The quality of cleaning is not matching the 4 start ( we had to chase up for a shower gels ( after 3 days without any toilettes) , we spent our last day without any towels at all ., no bed changing for 5 nights and no wet floor cleaning at all , no cleaning of patio area during a few days

Food was excellent. The staff was amazingly friendly. They told us that we were part of their family. They were so kind and welcoming. One of the staff showed our kids how to cut coconuts off a tree! They adapted the menu to meet our dietary needs. They were very accommodating with having dinner ready for the 14 of us when we said we wanted it and then we all sat around and hung out. Btw, right on the beach and sunsets were amazing.

Everything was great for us, but people need to realize this isn't a 5 star american style resort. It felt more like we were staying at a staffed Airbnb. It's a little rough around the edges- you may wait for towels, the water pressure wasn't great (we were told this was temporary), small things that aren't important to us, but if you're expecting the Four Seasons you may be disappointed.
