The master suite with the outdoor shower is incredible for just enough privacy. The layout of the home is perfect with roomy bedrooms and a huge living area for family. The lanai and pool were our favorites every evening after a day of adventures. Just a quick walk to the ocean. The location is in a quiet neighborhood that is a great central location to Hilo one way or Volcano Park the other way. We had lots of exploring time while staying here. This home made the second place we stayed at in Kona seem like a slum (and it was nice too). We didn't read the instruction book well when we first got there so we missed the part about keeping food scraps in the freezer to keep bugs from getting in the trash but after we saw it, dug our food scraps out, and knew what we were doing, it was all good. Maybe a little note in the kitchen about that would be a good reminder for future guests who get too caught up in the magic of Hawaii to follow directions straight away.We will definitely be back again and hope to be able to rent the House of Paddles. I've never stayed in a better VRBO rental.

The location allows you to travel to so many day trips in all different directions on the island. The kitchen was great and the bbq very convenient too. Highly recommend you seriously check this out for a fabulous vacation getaway.

We also enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and to the ocean cliffs a block away. It felt like time slowed down. We bonded over great food at the giant dining table and games at night. The house is big enough and the rooms separated for privacy so we all took time to relax with books and games (for the kids). We highly recommend this home for a relaxing visit to the Big Island!

We only spent 3 nights here, but it was fabulous! The house was very clean and had everything we needed. We loved having a private pool and opening up the doors and windows to enjoy the breeze and all of the sounds at night! Thank you again!

We visited the Big Island for our son’s Senior graduation trip! This house was perfect for our family! The pool was a nice addition, especially on the days we wanted to just relax! My husband and I stayed in the separate suite with the lava shower and it was perfect! I would highly recommend this property!

Great place for a family to stay. This is in a quite neighborhood, peaceful. House is as advertised. There is a house next door, quite close, but there was no noise or issue for us with that. Not an issue. Really enjoyed sitting by the pool enjoying the weather.

Beautiful home and pool with an easy walk to the cliffs. However, the recently build property next door looms directly over the pool area, and the living room if the doors are open. The neighbors tend to spend a lot of time on their lanai smoking cigarettes. All the plants and trees on their property had been clear cut and not yet replanted. It’s an unsightly mess, and not private. It might be a great place to return to in 5 or 10 years when foliage has returned and a sense of privacy is restored. Until then, look someplace else.

House of paddles was designed to provide our family with fun, enjoyment, and an opportunity to chill. Our four year old granddaughter loved the pool. I loved the lanai overlooking both pool and open living area.

This is a lovely property about a 30 minute drive from Hilo. The two main bedrooms and great room open onto the lanai and pool. The pool is a big plus. The house was spotless and equipped with everything you need. As noted in earlier reviews, there is a new house being built next door which overlooks the pool area, and the owners are working on additional privacy.

We’ve stayed here twice and each time found many things needing repair and/or general maintenance. Our last trip resulted in injuries due to the large amount of slippery mold/mildew on tiles around pool. As much as we like this property and its location we’ll be looking for a safer place to stay.

We enjoyed the pool on a daily basis and loved being able to walk easily to the beautiful coast. The only downside, as mentioned in a previous review, is the proximity of the two story house being built next door. Some creative screening for privacy will be required once people have moved in.

We had An amazing stay! Love the home and the checkout list was really short! I’d stay again hands down, and recommend to anyone! The home is a bit out of the way, it’s at least 30 minutes to hilo, and our teens were bummed they couldn’t just go into town and hangout without us. The home is perfect for lounging and eating in and enjoying the pool! The cliff is only about 5 minute walk, no beach swimming but an incredible view, truly magnificent! Grateful for the pool, Hawaii afternoons get a bit warm and humid, and many homes have no AC. We spent a lot of time with hilo ocean adventures, and Carlsmith beach is perfect for smirking! Whether you have your own gear or there is a good stash at the house! We really loved hilo overall!

It was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans. The location was relatively convenient for sightseeing, etc., although traveling on the big island means lots of driving, especially to the sunny side (west) as it rains on the east side most of the time.

The cons... The home's listing on VRBO did not mention that there wasn't AC. When we messaged property management, we were told it is uncommon to have AC in Hawaii and that it was in our rental agreement (so basically... deal with it). It felt like false advertising and that PM was not concerned about making it right. One of the beds had a stain on the sheets and the towels smelled mildewy. Neither of these issues were addressed when mentioned to PM. The dryer did not dry the clothes all the way even after running it for 2 cycles and we just had to pack wet clothes. The pros... The pool and outside area were very relaxing and comfortable. The location is good if you are wanting to stay on the southeast side of the island (Hilo area) and/or want to visit Volcano NP. If you are traveling to the property after dark it is difficult to see and navigate because there are no street lights, but the gated entrance was nice. It helped us feel more secure since we had to leave the windows open all night. The kitchen was well stocked and there were plenty of towels for both the bathrooms and pool. We appreciated the extra fans since it was quite warm and humid. While we enjoyed our time on the Big Island, our accommodations were not right for us. There are many raving reviews but for us, this property wasn't what we were looking for in a vacation rental.

Such an interesting property. And so spacious with a wonderful great room opening up onto the pool. We are able to spread out and really just relax. After spending the previous 7 Days on the west coast with the constant Sun I was happy to see the overnight rain and the clouds which then resulted in the waterfalls. So many interesting things to do on the east coast.

It was a great experience. Absolutely beautiful and in a great location. We absolutely loved the house, the pool and having a washer and dryer. Our only critiques are that the pool deck needs to be cleaned and the landscaping needed a little work. This is out of your control but it's sad that the house being built next door is overlooking the pool which takes away all the privacy.

We enjoyed the amenities that were first class. The house has a nice warm feeling that we enjoyed during our stay. The pool was fun, and the kitchen was particularly nice to use because of the professional quality fixtures provided. The laundry was convenient. Having all the bedrooms available for family and friends allowed us to spread out and enjoy ourselves. We especially enjoyed the ceilings with the lauahala weave and the master bedroom with the outdoor shower surrounded by fern-encrusted lava rock walls was over the top.
