This property received fantastic ratings online and we have stayed in this area before. With that said my expectations were set higher from previous trips. Upon arrival the entire home smelled so bad that we had to open all windows and doors. It took us a couple of hours to figure out the smell was coming from the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. There was what appeared to be rotting chicken skin stuck in it. The carpets flat out need to be replaced. Covered in stains, and rips and just appears dirty. The master shower leaks no matter what you attempt to do when shutting the glass doors. The rug was covered in people’s hair and has obviously not been vacuumed or washed. There is a massive amount of construction right now. The builders dropped rocks the entire house shook. There are nails left everywhere along the roadways from the construction workers. This particular unit doesn’t mention being literally on the main road. Everyone in the house had a hard time sleeping from the constant sound of traffic. We had to leave the windows open because the unit is not equipped with air conditioning which is normal for the mountains, but it would have been nice to know this unit was on the main roads. The children’s room has really awful beds and my teen had to sleep on the coach. Beds are so important for everyone. If your main goal is being close to purgatory then this unit would be convenient. If you are just staying in the area to explore and relax, keep looking!

This is the second time that we have stayed at this location. The house is incredible, warm and cozy, and the host is very helpful and amazing.

The Black Bear unit was ready to enter a bit early---we checked before driving up to Purgatory---and that was great.Condo was perfect for our small group. Originally there were going to be two couples and a single; however the second couple were not able to join us, and this turned out to be easier to accommodate people as far as bathroom layout. There is only one master bath. Two bedrooms share a bathroom ( Jack and Jill ) which would not have been comfortable for the second couple to use with another guest. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION WHEN CONSIDERING WHO WILL BE IN YOUR PARTY.I have to say that the people at the Durango Vacation Rental Collective are most genuinely helpful, considerate and efficient agents I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Bill, Andy,and a delightful young lady (who arrived after we locked ourselves out and delivered a key..... yep, we managed to do that!) are incredibly responsive to renters' plights. This unit did not have any foil, wrap, baggies, or napkins, so you may want to bring your own. We usually do when traveling, just in case! The speed at which units are turned over sometimes creates a few things forgotten, but no complaints from me; it is a hard job.Enjoy Black Bear if you are considering these units. the location can't be beat and the Shuttle is amazingly there to greet you just by thinking about it!
