Our stay at Black Dog Lodge was truly great! It’s a beautiful lodge that had everything we needed. The layout was perfect and allowed everyone a space to hang and gather. It was a treat!

We had a great time staying at the Black Dog Lodge for our February ski trip. The house was perfect for our two families (4 adults, 4 kids). The kids loved the loft space. There was plenty of space to spread out and relax. The house is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The weather was warm and we were able to enjoy the deck and outdoor fire pit. It was the perfect location to Okemo, only 20 minutes. Would definitely stay here again!

This was our first trip to Vermont and a great starting point to explore the area. Views from the second floor deck are tremendous, and the location is very private yet close enough to major roadways and local points of interest. The hosts make it an easy and relaxing experience with good communication and thoughtful amenities. We loved our stay and would return!

We had a fantastic time at Black Dog Lodge. The house is located in a quiet area which is perfect for relaxing, especially at night. The house is spacious and comfortable; there was plenty of space for all of us (8 total humans and two dogs). The house is neatly decorated, and it shows that a lot of time and love has gone into it. We enjoyed walking to the Plymouth Cheese Factory, hiking, and swimming at Buttermilk Falls. We hope we have the chance to go back next year! Thank you, Kristin, for being a great host.

The home was beautiful and so spacious. Personally next time I would pick something closer to more activities (which was an error on my planning). We enjoyed our stay so much though and did get to go to the waterfall nearby and we drove into Woodstock. Thank you so much!

We needed a place close to Bridgewater&Woodstock to visit old friends-this was perfect! We loved our downtime - relaxing on the deck and watching baseball and US Soccer! The house was clean and had room for everyone to have their own bed! Kristin was responsive and gave clear directions for check in and out. We also enjoyed visiting the nearby Calvin Coolidge site, Plymouth Cheese Factory (what a cool place!) and Long Trail Brewery even though it wasn’t part of our plan!

My family and I loved our stay at the Black Dog Lodge! It was cozy, clean, and well decorated. It is perfectly situated outside of Woodstock, VT. Just to note, it is on an un-paved road on a slightly remote street with other houses scattered here and there, but we felt very safe. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for an outdoorsy adventure in VT!

Property is conveniently located between Killington and Okemo, which were the ski destinations for our family ski trip.
We are a family of four (myself, my wife, and two sons 18 and 21), and there was more than enough rooms and beds and plenty of space. We stayed for 4 nights (skied 3 days).
The bottom/entry level of the property has a nice open mud/snow/ski room area for ski gear. The washer/dryer is in that space as well - a nice set up for dealing with wet ski gear and outerwear. Just off that area was one of the bedrooms (room with bunk bed). Bottom floor also had a nice living/TV room area. TV is huge so you can see it from anywhere you sit in the room. There's also a wood-burning stove.
The 2nd floor has a nice high-ceiling living room space (smaller TV) with an efficiently-spaced eat-in kitchen area attached to it. The kitchen table (counter height) is a little tight but works with the limited kitchen space. The deck is directly accessible from the kitchen area. Two bedrooms are located right off the living room area.
The top floor is a loft style bedroom (half bath attached). It has 4 beds and a small TV. As pics indicate - it's a ladder-step climb to room - but seems perfect for situation with kids old enough to navigate the steps and share... or 4 young adults who just need a space to sleep and don't mind room sharing.
Some FYIs to would-be renters - the house has very good Wifi but there is no cellular service. For us, we had to get back down to Rt. 100 and drive about another mile to get it back. Not a big deal (for us) - but just something to keep in mind. The "full" bathrooms are split rooms with a toilet and then sink/shower (nice feature for a group) on the bottom and 2nd floor. There was a more-than-ample firewood supply. The beds we slept in (2nd floor and loft) were comfortable - but all of them looked OK too.
The owners were super friendly and very responsive to our questions and requests.
Lastly - and perhaps most important for any review - we would definitely consider renting this again for our next ski trip to the area. Anyone reading this with a group of 8 or so skiers looking for a house rental accessible to ski Killington/Okemo (yet tucked away from the resort hustle and bustle) - this is a great rental at a reasonable price.
One very minor suggestion to owners is to get an electric/stove kettle to boil water. Just makes it a little easier for us tea drinkers - thanks!

Rented the property for a long weekend snowboard trip at killington. Cabin was in a perfect location. Nestled away in a peaceful woodsy area and a short drive to the mountain.
Kristin was super easy to get in touch and answered quickly. We got around 2 feet of snow and lost power, but the house was stocked with candles and flashlights and thankfully we had a wood burning stove and gas heating so we stayed nice and toasty.
The house was very spacious with 2 living areas. We didn’t use the loft area, but it was very cute! Plenty of space to fit 10-12 people if you have a bigger group. Very clean, stocked well with what we needed to cook at home. Overall wonderful stay, we were sad to leave! Would definitely book again!

Nestled up in the mountains of Vermont, the Black Dog Lodge was an ideal spot for us to spend a much-needed weekend away. The location is a perfect balance between being isolated (very, very quiet and serene surroundings; little to no light pollution in the evening) and connected (a short drive to Shaw's in Ludlow, and only 20 minutes from the quaint downtown of Woodstock). I took advantage of the well-stocked kitchen and was able to make a little Thanksgiving dinner for us to enjoy!
The location, as indicated, is up in the mountains, so the winter months will definitely be a challenge if you don't have a proper vehicle.
Though it was just my husband and our two doodles for the weekend, the lodge itself has a terrific layout for multiple families. The wood-burning stove on the ground level kept the place super comfortable at night when temperatures dipped, and the gas furnace on the second floor was easy to adjust to keep that level comfortable as well.
Plenty of towels, linens, blankets, pillows, and all the comforts of home. The lodge is thoughtfully decorated; you can really tell that they've put a considerable amount of effort into creating an inviting space. The wifi signal was excellent: we streamed the World Cup right to the SmartTV in the main living room with no signal disruptions.
Our host, Christine, was extremely responsive in the days leading up to our trip, throughout check-in, and towards the end of our stay. We were welcomed with a little bag of Vermont treats for humans and pups; such a kind gesture!
We'd stay again in a heartbeat!

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed an early November Weekend at the Black Dog Lodge. The host was in touch several days before our trip and provided us with all the information we would need. She was extremely quick to respond whenever we had a question and never left us hanging.
The house is situated up a picturesque and windy dirt road a couple of minutes from the Calvin Coolidge village (which is pretty interesting to check out). Upon entering the home, the pictures don’t do it justice. The homeowners did a fantastic job in decorating this home leaving it a warm and cozy feel. Although the temperatures were above average for our early November visit, they did drop in the evening which afforded us the opportunity to utilize the wood stove. There was an abundance of wood provided for the stove as well as the two outdoor fire pits. The wood stove really warmed up the home. The house was very clean and all the bedrooms were made up nicely. There were plenty of linens and towels provided and a washer and dryer was located on the first floor for use. There is also two refrigerators (one on each level) which provided plenty of room to keep food and beverages cold. The main floor had floor to ceiling windows which provides a very nice view of the mountain. The kitchen has ample space to cook and eat, and there is a TV room located right off the kitchen that provides a very relaxing and cozy feel. Off the kitchen is a second story deck that over looks the front yard and the roadway in—we spent a ton of time out here. Off the kitchen, a ladder leads upstairs to the loft which the kids absolutely loved. There was a TV up there as well as 4 beds (1 Queen & 3 Twins). There is also windows looking out to the wooded property. The house was in perfect proximity to Ludlow and Killington if you want shops or restaurants and obviously skiing at Killington, Pico or Okemo. All in all, we didn’t have any complaints and would definitely recommend this home to our friends, or even rent again ourselves.
