Amazing views. Great hot tub. Kitchen well supplied but missing a toaster. Bring your own knives as these are very dull. Comfortable beds and awesome tub in the master bedroom. The tech for the HVAC is very complicated….we gave up. Really the only complaint I have is that the management company is very difficult to get a hold of. I needed VRBO to intervene. Would I rent here again?…ABSOLUTELY! We all loved this place!

Clean, unique and great views

Clean and modern. Great location in the main neighborhood, but private due to the long dirt driveway. My sons really enjoyed that there were hills of boulders to explore right outside the backyard.

beautiful house and location. Well equipped kitchen. There was only one blanket for the three bedrooms and no throws for the four sofas in the living room. We loved everything else about the house.

It was an excellent location with a great view. The house has a modern design and attractive decor. The kitchen needs more appliances for cooking. One of the bathrooms has a leaky toilet and one recess light needs a new bulb.

This property was part of the surrounding landscape and secluded. It is only 1 mile from downtown Jodua Tree and not too far from the Park entrance. Highly recommend!

We had a great time in the desert! This was exactly what we needed!

Theres no better location , private, on the edge of the wild, and a great hiking trail right out back. Watching the sunset from the hot tub was spectacular.
Great layout with patios on either side to catch a sun / wind break. The comms with the managers was timely and helpful.
There were a few issues with the unit that need resolving otherwise it would be a 5 star review. The dishwasher was broken with no prior notification, spa jets did not work and needed a new filter, 2/3 hammocks are broken, and there were some house cleaning issues.
I would happily return if some of the repairs were made and the posting reflected the current state of the rental.

This is an amazing property! Customer service is excellent. The pictures don’t do it justice, it is as described and more! Don’t hesitate, book this you will not regret it. I do not know how anyone can give this a less than stellar review.

Overall, we had a great weeklong stay in the Rock Box. The house is located in a secluded location in Coyote Hole Canyon with 360 degree views of the surrounding desert and town. Pluses included the abundant natural light, minimal/uncluttered decor, covered porch with expansive views, open layout of common areas, and proximity to the West Entrance of the park. The communication prior to arrival was excellent as well as the helpful online app with arrival/property details.
There were a few issues that did take away from the experience (and made it a 4- vs. 5-star experience):
1. The dishwasher was broken, which was a very large inconvenience, as we were a 6-person family preparing 3 meals/day for an entire week.
2. The hot tub jet settings would not turn on. We suspect that this was likely due to the filter needing to be changed (the hot tub display was showing a change filter message). This issue should have been addressed during the weekly hot tub maintenance.
3. Upon arrival, we found that the kitchen wall behind the range was stained with oil splatters. This may be because the wall is painted instead of having a stain-resistant surface.
Overall, we still had a great time and we felt immersed in the desert while staying in the house.

We loved everything about this house that is located near the main park entrance but close to town. The house is very private with a view of the valley and surrounded by rock gardens on the other three. Great design and living space and wonderful views from every window. We definitely recommend this house.

We stayed here for three nights with our two teenagers. There was plenty of space for all of us. The property was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We loved being so distanced from the other houses. We felt calm as soon as we arrived!

We loved the property. Everything was as advertised. Plenty of room for a family of five. Proximity to the park is a major plus. Mother Nature interrupted our stargazing, but otherwise a lovely stay.

We loved our stay here. The physical surroundings are amazing; private and secluded while still being close to restaurants and stores. Very clean. I’m a discerning renter and I found myself annoyed by the reviewer who discounted the IKEA furniture, too small TV and appliances that weren’t high end enough. All four of us were very comfortable. The outdoor patios afforded beautiful views. We were sorry to leave.

All that we could ask for- the slight elevation of the house gives it a great view of the town and the mountains surrounding it. It is spacious and had everything we need. Close to all our favorite places (the national park is about a 15-minute drive, The Dez and Natural Sisters Cafe are all a very short drive or a nice walk). Used the hot tub and fire pit in the evenings (we were there in December when it gets a little chilly). My daughter loved that we could climb rocks immediately outside the house and get a great view from there too. We were happy to have a rental SUV as the drive up to the house is a dirt road and took a little technical driving to avoid the biggest ruts- fine for a normal sedan, though watch out if you're driving anything super low. We'll stay here again.

We were very pleased with the location and layout of the house. However, the place was not quite as advertised and our impression was that the great location meant the owner/manager felt they could get away with furnishings and amenities of lesser quality than expected in a place of this cost. That could be corrected at relatively little cost, in which case this would be a terrific property. Our remarks that follow are intended as suggestions for improvements to what we overall felt was a place which could be great. In no particular order of importance... The road up is extremely steep and rutted. Disclosure of that fact would've been very helpful the first time we drove up to the house. Also, there was no indication that there was a washer/dryer; that would've been helpful information to have in advance. The Ikea beds were wobbly, the frames needing tightening. The stove/oven was very low quality. The burners were extremely finicky and hard to light. The oven required the timer to first be set. Instructions for operation of the oven would've helped, but there were none. There were no potholders, so we had to use kitchen towels. There were no tissues in the house. The TCL TV was too small for the room and worked very poorly (very tough to scroll). The dining room table was in a part of the room with no ceiling light, so we had to move it over under the light. The faucet in the master bathroom did not flow into the sink; we had to turn the entire basin to stop the water from flowing onto the sink surround . There were no window screens, but that proved irrelevant since none of the windows opened. There are two steps up from the bedrooms to the kitchen, which proved a trip hazard, particularly the first night. It would be far safer if there was something to highlight those steps. The master bedroom bath faucet was not mounted to the wall. There was no lighter for the BBQ, either in the place we were told to expect it, or anywhere else.

Loved this house. The setting can not be beat, tucked away on a hill with amazing views, stargazing and boulders for exploring. Just a few minutes from the entrance to Joshua Tree this place allowed us to hike early, crash in the heat and jump back out for an afternoon hike. The style and look of the place is incredible with a lot of nice touches. Great stay!

Love love love this place!
This property is a dream! The house is beautiful, spacious, and has everything we needed. It is located at the top of a hill with access to mini-trails and sweeping views of rocks and boulders. We had an amazing time relaxing outside on the hammock and grilling BBQ. At night, we were isolated enough to do some stargazing. Shanan, the property manager, was very helpful and accommodating in every way possible! The whole family loved it here and would definitely book again in a heartbeat!

Spectacular
Spectacular location. Spectacular house. The pictures of Rock Box don't do it justice. We've stayed at some amazing locations around the world. Very few compare to Rock Box as far as 360 degree beauty. Five miles to Joshua Tree Park west entrance makes for easy daily access. The house itself is modern, super well maintained and equipped. Easy walk to Joshua Tree Saloon. Good food. Very entertaining people watching. I'd highly recommend the Rock Box when staying in Joshua Tree area. Thanks!
