We had a pretty good stay here. The hotel is in an old historical building and they did a good job of incorporating those older aspects with new, more modern ones. The bed was very comfy, the shower was new, and the breakfast was fantastic. They have a pretty decent breakfast menu, but the chef also says he’ll make anything you want. It didn’t take very long either and it was very good. They even had some pretty fancy options! The hotel has free tea and snacks available starting at 7 pm. While we attended and thought it was cute, we were the only ones there. It might be better to move up the time for this event so it’s not when people are having dinner and dessert and is instead at a more typical tea time. Our biggest complaint about this hotel was the AC. We were there during a heat wave, and our window AC unit was working really hard and barely made the room cool. They also didn’t have any fans available to help circulate the air. I know Massachusetts isn’t always hot, but it gets hot enough often enough that I think upgrading the AC/fan system is worthwhile. Overall, we enjoyed staying here and would stay again, but not in the summer.

A full-of-character historic hotel that may or may not be haunted in a bustling and unapologetically LGTBQ loving town. If that all sounds dreamy to you too, then stay at The Garrison and live it up Newburyport. We had a delightful time!

Lovely, classic boutique hotel within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Comfortable beds, elegant furnishings and beautifully quiet. Nice custom breakfast. I'm a repeat guest and feel quite at home here. Would be great if they had a pub or cocktail hour instead of evening tea time.

I came from Dallas to attend my 2 grand daughter’s baptism. I traveled with my stepsons and their wives. Jody the GM was filling in for team member. Loved her, and she felt bad because of all the bs with Expedia and put me in the penthouse! Lovely hotel! Newburyport is where my son and daughter in law live. Wonderful time, got to see people I had not seem since their wedding in June 2018. Highly recommend the Garrison Inn, can’t go wrong. I will never ever use Expedia again. Every agent I chatted with (never spoke to anyone) told me something different. One of them sent me to a fraudulent company. I didn’t intend to book through Expedia.

This was a lovely Older and quaint hotel! I was there right before the season started so there was only six or seven guest stain in the hotel at the time. There was always somebody at the front desk and they were very nice. There was a gentleman that made me food to order exactly as I wanted in the kitchen each morning, which was great!! The room was very comfortable and well decorated. The location was just a couple blocks from walking into the main part of the town so it was great and convenient. I had read Previous reviews that people said that there was nobody at the front desk when they arrived and seem like it was sort of deserted, but I don’t agree with that at all. It’s a very quiet and peaceful with a lot of charm. There was a young woman named Lauren at the front that I talked to quite a bit, and she explained a lot about the town and the history of the hotel. Everybody was very friendly. It is not a haunted hotel !! I didn’t see anything or smell any of the chocolate chip cookies that they said I might smell coming up from the basement. LOL. I know this hotel might be slightly higher priced than a few of its competitors that I also looked at, but my family stayed at some of those hotels, and I thought that the choice I made here at the garrison was a better choice. I would recommend you stay here if you want an old-fashioned and and quaint place to relax and also be located just blocks away from the main town And water!’

Newburyport on Massachusetts wonderful North Shore is quite delightful &now we have discovered the best possible location for staying overnight, for time to enjoy the Town’s many lures, the ocean at Plum Island, & Parker River National Wildlife Sanctuary — with its all-seasons fauna, fauna, & open waters Especially love Foxes & long-legged wader birds: Great White Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Herons, & a delightful assortment of diving sea ducks & dabbler ducks too. Something for everyone. Yet Newburyport town is equally enticing, with its distinctive shops, art galleries, maritime history, varied architecture, and welcoming culture. William Lloyd Garrison was a fierce abolitionist who understood the morally bankrupt enslavement of Black Americans had to end. His activism included publishing “The Liberator” — a tabloid-sized newspaper reporting all activity that would galvanize both Northerners & some Southerners to understand that slavery as an institution must end in the United States, whatever the cost — including four years of Civil War. Goals also included keeping the North and South united together as one nation for mutual benefits, and aiding the Underground Railroad.

We loved this hotel and the town of Newburyport so much that this is our second visit this summer

We love staying here! The staff are extremely kind and helpful and the atmosphere is unbeatable. The tea room was the highlight of our trip! We also had a wonderful time exploring the area. The boardwalk and the water are so close by!

Perfect location in downtown Newburyport. Walking distance to shops and waterfront. Hotel is historic but also decorated in the boutique hotel style. Glamorous and welcoming all at the same time. Added bonus…. Delicious complimentary cooked to order breakfast in the cutest dining area!!!

We enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was complimentary and outstanding. Very well decorated with lots of boutique touches. Room was very clean and spacious and super cute. My only minor complaint was that the AC unit was loud and not very efficient at cooling.

Beautiful spot, close to downtown and more! Had beautiful decor and a nice tea time which I loved. My two complaints the main light stopped working in my room told housekeeping and tried to call downstairs. The bed needs to be replaced the room is beautiful but the bed was beyond uncomfortable time to upgrade the bed for a boutique had the worse sleep ever! Breakfast as yummy as well. The receptionist upon check in was the best so friendly and accommodating!!

The Garrison hotel is in a beautiful historic building which has been updated to be both stately and whimsical at the same time. Evening tea service was an added treat and the full breakfast menu was terrific. Also, the staff is friendly and very helpful.

This is a nice and happy hotel. The building is older (historical) and therefore so are some of the fixtures. Bed comfort is so personal that it's difficult to rate - for us the bed was hard, but some people like that while others don't. We were in a corner king and the room while plenty big had some some features - like the closet and the bathroom. The bathroom could definitely use a new toilet. Made to order breakfast is included and very good. The staff is WONDERFUL - So very helpful and kind. So for us it's was kinda like staying at Grandma's house - your room and bed might be a little older and not as comfortable as home, but you don't care because of the care you receive. The hotel is reported (on some sites) to be haunted - no evidence of that on the second floor! We had a lovely stay.

The rooms were nice and the sitting areas quaint but it was definitely not worth the money. Not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. Breakfast included but 1 person took the orders, made the food and delivered it. It was a full house too. I guess I should be content with the complimentary pencil.

Jody at the front desk is incredibly cool lady. The room is very sweet and the whole vibe of the old hotel and surrounding town is excellent….charming, beautiful, like being in Europe.

Great location, very quiet. Historic - overall, the property borders on "brooding" (if not haunted in some strange way . . . )
