Nice room with good amount of space, two issues for us were poor water pressure and lots of noise from the pub outside of the window

Lovely location and nice Lounge, Bar & Breakfast areas - very comfortable.

The hotel was perfect for our needs

We were in one of the sea view rooms (room 119) and were blown away by the view. There was also a patio outside with table and chairs. Room was comfortable but not luxurious. Bed was good. Breakfast was also good, again with a tremendous view onto the harbour. The hotel has a maze of slightly dingy corridors, probably the result of various extensions over time, but that really didn't matter to us once we got our bearings

Shower and bed were good. But no biscuits in the room and only three little milk cups.

Lovely stay in beautiful St Mawes. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very nice. The only gripe was the hotel is a little tired/shabby in places …

We upgraded to what should have been a superior sea-view. 😬 A sea-view we did get room 208 but it most certainly wasn’t a superior. The room had a funny smell likened to a wet babies nappy. We pulled out the bed to see if there was anything behind as that’s where the smell seemed to be coming from but we didn’t find anything so just put it down to a smelly room. Lucky for me I had some spray which helped mask the smell. The carpet in the room needed a good clean. The hotel is just a little grubby in areas which is a shame as that’s down the cleanliness. The breakfast was ok although it was just warm. The location is perfect though and it didn’t cost the earth to stay there so that’s a bonus.

Nice clean and comfortable accommodation, great location

Enjoyable one night stay at this dog friendly hotel. My only downside was that we were put in a room at the back of the hotel. I would have asked for a sea view room but on the booking form there was nowhere to put any preferences.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Lovely welcome and the staff were very helpful with any questions we had. Very good value for money. Loved the coffee shop underneath the hotel for a morning coffee and pastry! Would definitely come and stay again - St Mawes is a lovely location.

The place was clean and quiet. Bedrooms were neat and clean.
We did not have time to view the surrounding areas to the building.
I would suggest inclusion of small fridges in rooms as a long/medium term plan.

Good location on the sea front.
No onsite parking but public car park nearby

Breakfast was very good. Clean and tidy place . The rooms and corridors need repainting. Anything but grey! Otherwise good place to stay with low cost of room.

A lovely friendly hotel right on the harbour. Very dog friendly. Not 5 star but certainly a lovely place to stay with your furry friend.

Had a meal in the restaurant, which overlooks the harbour. Great setting, food and service were good. Certainly revisit if I'm ever that way again.

Food very bland. Best to eat out
No cold water from cold tap-so difficult with water at night for dog
Room not serviced
Extra £10 per dog
No car parking

Most of 5he staff were happy and friendly. The hotel itself could do with being updated and a really good clean. There as a smell I the lift and corridors.

The hotel has a fantastic location but is in need of investment. Bed was comfortable and staff doing their best. Carpets and lighting need replacing and the whole atmosphere is dingy. Shower room very cramped. Dining room and bar area have great views over the harbour but sofas badly worn. Best thing about it is the wonderful bakery/cafe below the hotel where we enjoyed breakfast during our stay.

Very convenient for all the amenities of St. Mawes. Room was at the back of the property and was very noisy at night due to the proximity of a pub.

The property is quite dirty and stuffy. Needs a good make over and clean throughout.
Some of the staff are very friendly, others not so.

So….hotel was clean, location really good. Parking is chargeable but locally not by the hotel and is very good.
Rooms are newly updated, but water pressure terrible on hot water in room 203, the general build condition is poor and clearly wasn’t done to a high standard. That’s said, beds are comfy and fine for sleeping, no a/c or ceiling fans and upstairs rooms are like ovens, very stuffy.
Staff friendly and generally lovely place to be, my feelings are the bathrooms and hot water issues need sorting and will be much more pleasurable experience. A ceiling fan or a/c in all rooms would be a good touch!

The location is wonderful, the staff very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast covered all wants and the Bar man had a great sense of humour.
The Hotel fits in with the village feel.

The first thing that hit us was being asked to pay up front for two nights accommodation, although this seems to be a growing trend, and I suppose we could have paid up front on hotels.com, the manner seemed odd.
The room was clean and although it had been refurbished in recent times, seemed very dated. Room facilities were adequate and en-suite very small for a superior room. The room had a balcony, but this almost eluded us because one of the patio doors would not open and the other took a while to unlock and then very hard to re-lock. This is a hazard if evacuation is necessary.
I went to ask if breakfast was included, it was not (not a problem) and we asked to be booked in, we were asked again to pay in advance. We refused and ate in the little cafe nearby, where we had a fantastic breakfast bap, orange juice and tea/ coffee probably much cheaper than the hotel!
We met a local on the ferry to Falmouth, she suggested that the hotel was struggling, which explains why monies were requested up front, but as other hotels do, they could have reserved an amount on a credit card to cover the bill and any incidentals.
This pay up front attitude left a sour taste in the mouth.
In the evening we didn’t eat at the Ship & Castle, preferring to eat in the 2 other hotels in St Mawes. Both we highly recommend.
We would not stay at the Ship & Castle again

A very smooth overnight stay. The reception staff were particularly helpful when we had to check out and load up the car, as there’s no on site parking. Breakfast was fine with great view over the harbour.

The view from the room was beautiful but for a deluxe room it was very small.
The food was on the cheaper side but really underwhelming. The fruit salad was an apple with two grapes and a piece of melon and the sautéed potatoes were crisps.
Again the views were stunning but having experienced other restaurants at St Mawes I was expecting much more than what we received.
The majority of the staff were friendly and were happy to reserve us a window seat for breakfast.

The hotel was clean, and very cheap compared to the cost of staying in other places in St Mawes. The nearby council parking lot was very reasonable, and you can get good deals for unlimited travel passes on the buses and ferries.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of help yourself buffet items.
I was in a renovated single room. It was very clean and had a great shower, a desk and chair. However it was a long room, and with the constant noise of the outdoor air conditioning units, and the bathroom fan, I felt like I could have been in a cabin of a cruise ship. Maybe other rooms have a royal castle feel to them to go along with the name “ The Ship and Castle Inn”!!

Fabulous position with lovely view from restaurant and front rooms. No frills accommodation could do with a little TLC.
Staff friendly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The room and bathroom was clean even when they were short staffed. The view from our room was magnificent. Very pleased we visited.

Great location, but very tired and in need of a makeover and difficult to get into room as the bed was in the way!

During a 10 day trip around Cornwall this was the most expensive accommodation that we stayed in, and frankly the worst one. No on site parking, reception not answering the phone, a bedroom view into an adjacent pub dining area about 6' away, shower that flooded the bathroom the list goes on.
