Friendly staff. Homely room. Mixed dining experiences.

Genuinely dog friendly hotel - dogs allowed in all bar and restaurant areas and no passive aggressive signs about keeping them off the bed :-) Well run pub, though not as luxury as I was expecting having stayed in Devonshire Arms’ before - this one is right next to Chatsworth but not run by them! Bit of a busy location and I wouldn’t recommend the “cosy” double but that’s my fault for going cheap!

Lovely short stay. Great bar with an excellent range of beers and wines. Tasty food. Room a little small but clean and bright. The staff were wonderful and really made a difference. They obviously enjoy their jobs and work well as a team. Always helpful and smiling.

Bedroom and bathroom a little tired (towel rail missing). But overall an excellent stay . Staff friendly and cheerful, service great, would definitely recommend

What an amazing stay we had. Staff were so welcoming and couldnt do enough during our trip. The accomadation was just what we needed with so many little touches that made us smile. E.g complementary use of childrens an adult wellies and umbrellas for them muddy walks. We ate in the evening at the devonshire and the food was incredible, personally expensive but dont mind paying for quality. Breakfast hit the mark also in the morning. Our room maybe was needing a bit of a sprouse and shelves to store toiletries. But didnt spoil our stay at all.

Terrible hotel, room awful and cold. Food disappointing, would not recommend. Been a 3* hotel is no excuse

The Devonshire Arms' greatest asset is its terrific staff, who were cheerful, friendly, full of northern warmth, and who could not have been more obliging, whether hotel, waiting or bar staff. Public areas are atmospheric and well-maintained and clean. The bedroom and bathroom were also clean and pleasantly modern, while remaining suitable for the country style of the establishment. The restaurant provides a good varied menu; the only small gripe I had about it was that when I ordered the mussels, I was told that they were out of season and so weren't being served. First of all, in this age of fast communication, mussels are never out of season, and secondly, if they are not being served for a period of months, or even weeks, then why not print out a menu without them? Desktop publishing is hardly a great effort nowadays. That being said, it in no way spoilt our stay, and the meal I did order was excellent. The Devonshire Arms' policy on dogs is fantastic. How sensible, in a country location where there are bound to be people wanting refreshment and accommodation with their dog, to allow canine access in all public areas and bedrooms. Dogs are not just accepted but actively welcomed and kept topped up with a water bowl. Ours was even given his own free sausage at breakfast. It was much appreciated! The only downside was that we were able to stay just one night on this occasion. I'm sure we'll be back for a longer stay.

Not sure how this got a rating of excellent. The staff were pleasant. Did not eat here in the evening but breakfast was fine. We only booked late on friday on entering the room there was a definite smell of dog. When using the bathroom it was very dated. We should have refused to stop but when its late in the evening.

2nd stay within 12 months. Usual friendly and helpful staff. Nothing a problem and keen to ensure comfortable stay. Stayed room 11 which was a family room. I didn't need this so check what you book as I had ticked the wrong room. Room clean and ideal for a family with a couple of children. Was very hot in night. Dinner was very good as was breakfast. Great location and worth a visit.

Staff were lovely, convenient on-site parking & even the ‘cosy’ double room was a great size.

Simple but comfortable rooms. Excellent food and warm friendly staff. Only complaint was onsite light outside window on all night so blackout curtains needed or light turned off.

Staff had no idea what a gluten free diet was and tried to serve dishes that where clearly not suitable. Not many vegetarian options either. Lovely venue, room really nice and breakfast good

The staff were very helpful and managed to get us in for an evening meal without a booking. The food was excellent and they had a good selection. Would highly recommend for the Chatsworth Christmas markets.

The staff were all nice and friendly. Didn’t like the really hard pillows and didn’t like that there was tea/coffee making facilities in the room but no cups to make it in.

This is a pub with rooms so nothing fancy but very comfortable room, excellent food and very efficient and friendly service from all staff - a real find.

I needed support to unload a motorcycle- staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough. Ate in the restaurant- excellent food. Bed comfy too!

Overall it was a great stay. Friendly staff, good food, fab location. A bit pricey but we are stranded on this isle at the moment so understandable. Only area for improvement would be the bed - mattress a bit lumpy and duvet too heavy / warm for summer.

Nice down to earth staff were very welcoming

We had room 6, which is at the rear of the property, partly overlooking a stream and the car park. The room was well furnished, as was the bathroom. The shower was good and powerful, nice after a day's walking in the Peaks.

Sparkling clean, fantastic COVID measures. Dinner service was very slow - 40 minute wait for starter etc food when arrived was mostly great. Slight hiccup with Breakfast but all sorted. The Cosy Double was definitely cosy!

The staff and food were very good. The bedroom however was very tired and badly in need of painting. The room faced onto the bins and a security light went on and off all night keeping us awake. There was also the continual hum of a generator. Needless to say we had 2 nights of little sleep. It certainly wasn’t worth what we paid for it.

Our stay was perfect, beautiful surroundings, great service and would highly recommend.

The property needs a lick of paint here and there. Generally the building is lovely and a great location

Lovely relaxed stay, helpful friendly staff and plenty of good walks in the vicinity. Rooms far enough from pub to be shielded from any noise (although ours was on ground floor and so the creaky floorboards upstairs can be heard - try and be upstairs if you can). The food was excellent (both breakfast and dinner), much more of a restaurant/gastropub than pub.

Nice welcome to the Hotel and everything was well explained, particularly in reference to the current Covid requirements. Room was nice apart from the boiler noise, which stopped late in the evening. Dinner was great with plenty of choice and reasonably priced. Breakfast however was really disappointing with a 30 minute wait for bacon and eggs - which were cold when they arrived. Overall 7/10

Very 'covid' aware so felt comfortable. Staff very attentive and friendly. Probably the best breakfast we've had anywhere! Will definitely stay again when we're in the area.
