Fantastic location on beach. Chairs and umbrellas provided. Walkable to number of restaurants.

Curtains in the room, tv and air could use an update. For location and price staff training and amenities (like coffee in the rooms) need some attention. Also to take the coffee in the lobby away at 9am seems a little cheap.

It is a older hotel with a lot of charm. Clean and great views.

I can’t say enough about the location of this hotel. It is right on the beach. I did however expect more for the price they charge. Our room was over $400 per night advertised, but they charge a resort fee on top of that and close to $50 a night for parking. It ended up costing over $500 per night. The condition of the room was disappointing for the price. It was definitely well used, and there was a lot of wear and tear. The air conditioner had a hard time keeping the room cool, and was really noisy. The restaurant was very convenient, but not impressive. I will say that we are definitely spoiled people when it comes to travel, and maybe my expectations were too high. Personally, I think if I’m spending over $500 a night for a room, it should be a lot nicer than this one was.

My family stayed here for 5 nights and LOVED it. My kids are 11 and 8 and they loved the activities like movie & popcorn at the pool and snow cones. Room was comfortable and clean. Can’t beat being on the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants, the pool was also great. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. We’ll def stay again and would recommend.

We love La Jolla Shores, try to get there every summer. The mattresses are getting a little worn and lopsided. But otherwise great

Check-in was disappointing. Was told by phone we had to be at the hotel to be put into the “cue” for early check-in. Raced to the hotel, was told our room was in the “cue” to be cleaned. Was told 90mins later, there was no cue. Food and bar service was so dreadfully slow. I would guess understaffed in the kitchen and behind the bar. But, I saw lots of employees standing around doing nothing, so likely the hotel is just poorly managed. Priced like an expensive lux hotel, but in reality it’s a beach motel. It’s a $300 a night beach motel which charges $700 per night.

Loved the property is right on the beach and we actually were upgraded from a patio to a beach view room. I will definitely be back 👍❤️

The hotel is very conveniently located on the beach. Convenient access to the beach. The hotel provides beach umbrellas and chairs. The hotel is very clean, cozy and comfortable. There are various games for children and a wonderful restaurant.

We absolutely love this place. So close to the ocean, decent food on site. The elevators smelled awful this time for some reason. However I wish they would tell big groups of people to move along in the hot tub that don't even get it in and just sit all around it with only their calves in and just talk for hours so no one else can use it. The parking and resort fees equaled another $300 on top of the $2000 we already spent for 4 nights seemed insanely ridiculous but it is what it is I guess. Overall we love this property but it's far and few between for us as it is very pricey.

We had a wonderful stay. We will definitely come back. The staff was friendly and responsive. La Jolla Shores is a classic and charming hotel good for every type of traveler.

Perfect beach front location & a block away from Great food & little local surf shops. Hotel Restaurant has exceptional food as well, although the staff was not detailed oriented or aware of their patrons unfortunately. The hotel itself is old & Really needs to be updated; the rooms especially!! Old Carpet At The Beach yuck!!!! Way over due for a remodel. The elevator would get stuck on the 2nd floor so we couldn’t use it to get to the 3rd floor (actually scary!!) The jacuzzi fits 4 people?!? What is the point of that? At A Hotel!!! Would be nice if the hotel offered Loungers instead of chairs at the beach, like the hotel next door. For the price of the rooms you are really paying for the location. Beach front, which like I said was a wonderful, easy beach to lounge at all day & low crashing waves for kids to play in the ocean.

Hotel location is fantastic, restaurant has the best food and the staff and waitresses are amazing, if you decide to stay in this hotel I would suggest to order all your food from the hotel restaurant they have wonderful food menu and the cost is reasonable. We have been coming to this hotel for 6 summers now and the service and food has declined in recent years. When we checked in we were assigned rooms but never told that we were getting the rooms I selected when making the reservation. It wasn’t until we got into our rooms that I realized it. I talked to the front desk and they said we were “upgraded” due to inventory. While the view was an upgrade, the number of beds wasn’t. There was no apologize given and I was expected to be thrilled because of the view. The next day we went to the beach and we ordered take out from the restaurant. The lady who took our order said she would call when it was ready and that she would even bring it outside for us. Fast forward to an hour later and no phone call so I started calling the restaurant but wasn’t getting an answer. Went into the restaurant and our food was sitting there. No call, no apology, nothing. Our food was cold and had obviously been sitting there for awhile. It has become harder each summer to justify staying at this hotel with the rising room rates and lack of customer service. No one cares anymore like they use to at this hotel. The only thing that keeps bringing us back is the location.

Great stay!

Great place! No need to bring extra stuff for the beach, they set up umbrellas, chairs and towels! Direct beach access alone makes this place worth it!!

Overall this properties location and nearby activities are hard to beat! As far as the cleanliness it was about a 3-3.5 stars for that aspect. 4.5 stars for the drinks, view, nearby activities like bikes, kayaking to the coves, enjoying chairs in the beach watching the sunset, s’mores at 5pm, walking distant restaurants, ocean rental things/ocean toys, very child friendly as well. The service on the other hand only earns 3 stars for me. The place is amazing but the people who work there aren’t the very best or care the most about what they do.

It was nice ..older hotel It would be nice if adults could use the hot tub and coffe in the morning was refilled along with the suger and creamer. It on a public beach
