The property grounds were beautiful but the room that we were given was so old, falling apart, and looked like it had not been renovated since the 1980's. There was no TV, no fridge, no microwave, and no in-room safe.

Whilst I can appreciate the history of this place, it certainly didn't make up for the poor standard of accommodation. We are a family of five and whilst there was plenty of room for us, the room was dated, the plumbing very poor, the furniture and carpets very tatty, dimly lit and it was absolutely filthy! Being in such a beautiful part of nature, I can understand the lack of a television in the room but there was no hairdryer, phone or coffee machine. Touches that make a hotel stay comfortable, were almost completely absent. I did manage to get hold of a hairdryer and a coffee machine, by asking at reception. The lady on reception wasn't particularly helpful or welcoming though. The location of the property was brilliant and we we explored the coastline of Monterey and Carmel from here and could walk to the beach. This property was designed, historically, to be a YWCA. Only book if you are prepared for a hostel experience. They are charging hotel prices (we paid over $200 per night) for what is essentially still a hostel. Such a shame as the place has the potential to be so much more. There is a pool and games room but we didnt want to spend much time here and so I can't comment on those aspects.

Asilomar is a magnificent eelcoming place to stay near gorgeous beaches and staye parks and reserves. The history of being founded in the early 20th century as a YWCA, the first women's campgrounds adds to the pleasure of pur stay. The opposite of a generic, commercial enterprse. I loved it and will return again!

Unfriendly customer service initially. Rooms weren’t ready until 5:15pm. Toilet didn’t flush, sink had a drip, pillows were horrible, hair on the bathroom floor, run down, could hear everything in the room upstairs and next to us- no insulation. Would never use this place again, nor recommend it.

Not a great experience at all. My "room" was about 8'x10' in size (really!) and did not have A/C, a TV, a coffee maker, and didn't have one hanger in the closet. It was old & outdated and had an odor to match. The room (and halls leading to) were dark & depressing with old lighting. The windows had to be kept open for ventilation. Fire pits nearby filled the room with smoke (didnt discover this until coming back from dinner the first night). All of my clothes smelled of campfire the rest of the trip. Two exterior garbage cans at my building remained overfull all five days of my stay. Paying over $250 a night was the real insult. This room is a $59 a-night room. There are several buildings on the grounds, maybe I got the worst. Do your homework not to get stuck in one of these "classic" rooms if you need to stay here. I'm afraid I won't be back.

Pros: clean, lots of beds, large room with high ceilings, deck/balcony, pool, large window/sliding door, vintage/MCM vibe. Cons: tub wouldn't drain and maintenence never came, zero TVs, zero AC, heat wouldn't turn off, half-size pillows, saggy mattress, smelled like a nursing home and old furniture.

Proximity to the ocean was fantastic

Wasn’t told there was no ac or tv until after I payed at the desk. Woke up next morning with a bunch of ants in the room.

A bit dirty in the room

We checked in and were given room keys for a room that had not been cleaned- the sheets were all undone and there was trash on the table. We drove back to the reception and told staff, and they were unapologetic. When we got to our new room, it had been serviced by the cleaning staff but not well. There was hair in the shower and the toilet bowl had not been cleaned. There were used towels hanging on a hook in the bathroom. We will not be returning.

The grounds were clean. It was like a maze, trying to get from point A to oiint B on the grounds. The staff was friendly. The room was okay, except for the condom wrapper that the cleaning staff missed from an earlier tenant.

Really enjoyed the beautiful grounds of this stay. The room is more like a cabin atmosphere. I read what room don’t provide and brought a small heater and a cooler with me to keep my drinks cold. We are definitely staying here next year.😊

Really bad room that should bever be rented out. The naintenance room was adjacent and something was happening mechanically that made an explosive sound in the room several times during the night. We jumped off the bed everytime it happened thinking a truck had hit the building. Really really loud and happened 4 times between midnight and 6 am. Room was hot even though we had windows open and hester all the way off. Looking straight into other rooms, so couldnt open curtains. No view or ocean sounds in this room (1018). I was so excited to stay at Asilomar but was extremely disappointed.

Lovely family atmoshpere, quiet and great location to the beach. Just request that there be a coffee maker in the room or electric kettle.

Enjoyed the peaceful setting and no frills room

I love Asilomar. It’s rustic, but charming. I stayed in one of Julia Morgan’s buildings and the staff built a fire in the common room, which was lovely and cozy. I will be back.

We loved the quiet and the beautiful views and boardwalk! As for the room, like other reviews have stated, it was a bit dated with peeling wallpaper and dim lighting...that all kind of fit the mood of the property which is very outdoorsy and naturalist. The beds were just fine. Things to know that we didn't know...there is no refrigerator to keep drinks cold and there is no TV in the room. All in all, it was a beautiful setting and I would stay here again and bring a cooler to keep drinks cold.

Very rustic. It was like traveling back in time. The room and facility reminded me of an old college dorm in the mountains. No phone. No microwave. No refrigerator. No television. No coffee maker. Original wood floors. Many room features looked original. Nostalgic.

It was dirty we got some skin infections and they closed their dinner very early 8 PM.

Very beautiful quite place to spend the weekend

Great area near the beach. I loved the look and the boardwalks. Only thing to improve is that the interiors are a bit dated.

Overall, good. But, the walls are so thin and the noise from the hallway and next door was just unbearable. The front desk staff was OK, could be even friendlier.

The location and hotel itself was really nice!! The rooms are a little dated though, But everything was clean, comfortable And in working order!
