Nice little hotel close to the city centre of Tropea and train station within walking distance - very friendly staff and good services - it was perfect for my short holidays in Calabria

The hotel is located 5 minutes on foot from the railway station and from the centre, 10 minutes to the beach. It is an older hotel, but very well maintained. Room is of a reasonable size, has a balcony and a window in the bathroom. Breakfast is fine, standard 3* variety. At the beginning of October, unbeatable value for money ratio for my stay.

We chose this hotel purely on price so did not have any great expectations, but what a lovely surprise. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Not too far from the railway station and close to the centre of the old town, all the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous, particularly Vincenza who seemed to be a permanent fixture behind the reception desk. Our room was spacious clean and comfortable. The wifi reception was good and the buffet breakfast excellent. I could not recommend it more highly.

Great location to tourist area and resturants. 5 min Walk. Breakfast was plentiful with options. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Mattress was not the most comfortable.

I often winge about the location and views from single rooms - not this time, I had a balcony with a sea view. The location is excellent between the station and centre of town and about two minutes walk from the Main Street. Very friendly staff. Only drawback was no secure luggage storage - simply leave luggage in the corner of the bar if you are leaving late in the day.

Very nice hotel, maybe not very new or modern, but stuff is making all of this not important. They are all very nice and helpful. Best location, almost in the center but quiet and you can sleep in the night. The best base to go out on the evening and not too far to the beach. Very beautiful beach in Tropea you can reach walking, but you have to know you have to go downstairs, because the whole city is placed on cliff.

Nice clean but a little old hotel with perfect location. Close to the beach and citycentre.

Had a very nice time. Everyday the room was cleaned superbly, though there was a lack of ability to use WiFi throughout the hotel. Appart from the main lobby, by using their own personal WiFi. Breakfast was very limited, as there wasnt much hot food. Only warm croissants or the ability to get warm milk from the coffee dispenser. They do give you a fridge in your room but no kettle. No entertainment but that was cured by the surrounding area having countless restaurants and social gaverings. The view from my rooms balcony was amazing, as we got to overlook Tropea beach and watch the sunset. Though, there are unfortunate rooms that face a rather unflattering block of flats as my bathroom did. Very easy to get to from the train station and a couple minutes walk from the beach.

The hotel is very tired and needs up dating. The bathrooms especially and the lighting in the room was awful. It was all very dated and between the mattress and the pillow it was like sleeping on a concrete slab. Also our room was right opposite the cleaners store room which in turn disturbed our sleep as they start early and were noisy.Best thing about the hotel was the location. This hotel could be fabulous with a complete refurbishment.

Average hotel. Staff were friendly but their English was not that good. Rooms were very dated, felt relatively clean and size was ok. Good location right near the centre of town. Make sure you use the garage offered by the hotel, our car was stolen off the street which caused all sorts for dramas!

Tropea is a hidden treasure set high on anciently built cliffs with beautiful beach below. The hotel did not match the scenery. I said you cannot have a bad meal in Italy...Hotel Virgilio's sad breakfast is an exception... combined with surly front desk help and a room with half a balcony and steep steps up and down to the bathroom...it was a bad experience. The only good I can say is that the location was fine but book it only if you have no other choice and be prepared to be awakened at 8:15am on Sunday by the fire alarm of bells coming from the cute church across the street. It did have underground parking.

not much english spoken but this is not uncommon here. Overall, a good place to stay and very centrally situated within the town
