A great place if you want to be 'off grid' for a bit. Lovely location and accommodation with great wide views. All the staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Our evening meals were faultless. We are happy to recommend and hope to return again one day. We would suggest of if you are want to do a trip into Addo Elephant Park with the lodge, that you book in advance. However, we went on the trip with Schotia Game reserve which was very good, which the lodge can organise for you.

The staff here are on a par with global industry leaders. The service is considerate and attentive without harrassment. They are knowledgable, friendly and efficient. The food is fantastic and allows the experience of the culture. Accomodation was superb, views for miles. Cannot rate highly enough (I work in this industry so have experienced many top hotels, this is right up there but also offers excellent value for money)

Beautiful place, relaxing with amazing nature around.
Rooms are large, comfortable, clean and has it all . Really enjoyed the place and the food.
Service was great, no complain..but a bit too much ( for someone who does not like to be king or Queen).
and it is at least 30-40 min. Drive to Addo.

A comfortable safari lodge with sweeping views. This place is up on a ridge in a small reserve overlooking the surrounding countryside of fruit trees and mountains in the distance. Our accommodation was in one half of a traditional style lodge cottage with thatched roof and a private balcony overlooking the view. It was spacious, seemed recently refurbished and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was excellent with separate indoor and private outdoor showers and a bathtub. There are a couple of small swimming pools (one adult only). Breakfast was good, and served on a verandah with the same view and dozens of wild birds on feeding tables to watch. It is close enough to drive to Addo comfortably, and the team at Hitgeheim are very keen to organise trips; in my view, Addo itself can be done easily on one’s own if you have an appropriate car; we saw plenty of elephants and zebra and a couple of lions. Schotia is a more ‘safari park’ experience, with a wider variety of wildlife which you can get closer to and an informative guide but a slightly less natural environment. The price for the Schotia transfer felt a bit steep and as it was heavily encouraged should perhaps simply be included in the cost of the trip.

This stay was a few days of calm relaxation in a busy trip. We felt so well cared for. The dinners and breakfasts were excellent as was the service in every way. Our bungalow was lovely with a wonderful balcony and enormous bathroom. We were sad to leave.

This a lovely tranquil spot perfect for visiting the local viewing parks , we had a wonderful time with top guide Peter. The lodge has a comfortable vehicle for exploring Addo Elephant park and Peter will make the day even better.
The lodge itself is well run and comfortable, the food is great and the dining room has fantastic views. The perfect Safari experience

Hitgeheim is a wonderful place to stay. Arhie a true host. I made a mistake booking the lodge but he was so accommodating (as well as the Hotel.com assistants, they always help out when needed) to change without a fine. The place is just a jewel in its own reserve, with stunning views, great food, its own wine cellar with very democratic prices, wonderful staff, tastefully designed room, that are very spacious and an outdoor shower!!!! :) The safari with Peter was great, though we did not see the lions or rhinos, but nevertheless we loved it! The staff even washed our car just before we left. We absolutely loved the place. On our way out of the private reserve we even got little present: more zebras and koedoes crossing our path.

Very nice room and great bathroom, sweet and attentive staff. Archie the host is a friendly and enthusiastic gentleman. Addo and Schotia safaris were awesome.

Pretty good hotel with nice rooms and surroundings. On the other side, food is not at the level of other 5 stars or even 4 stars hotels in south africa. The place is a bit remote from from Addo Park and the 335 route.

Was one of the best lodges I have ever seen, we were there on Dec 31, they made a great Dinner and Archie did an amazing job!

We read some excellent reviews before choosing Hitgeheim, and they were all justified! Archie has created a little piece of heaven in these 8 thatched-roof chalets, cozy lounge with fireplace, decks and restaurant. We loved everything about our chalet.....private deck overlooking the river valley, sitting room, comfy bed, open shower. The food was uniformly delicious and beautifully presented. What really makes Hitgeheim special though, is its staff. Everyone was wonderful, and we are especially grateful to Donald & Michael for taking such good care of us; to Peter for a fabulous and informative tour of Addo Elephant Park, and to Archie for arranging our tour days in CapeTown with his son, Martin (who is a chip off the old block!). Archie also arranged our game drives at Schotia and at Amakahla. If you are going anywhere near Port Elizabeth, this is THE place to stay!!

There is nothing to fault about our experience. Everyone at Hitgeheim was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Safaris and all transportation was arranged for us, and everything was seamless. The view from Hitgeheim is incredible. Great breakfasts and delicious wine and dinners. The room was very comfortable and clean, with complimentary sherry, and a well-stocked (and reasonably priced) minibar. It really was a 5 star experience, and this is mainly due to the exceptional high quality of staff at Hitgeheim. I highly recommend it, and I would stay here again.

We were unable to find accommodation within Addo elephant park and that was our good fortune. Hitgeheim Eco Reserve was so much better. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel valued. Their attention to detail is superb and the accommodation is very comfortable and well thought out.We stayed for two nights and therefore did two safaris one one day, three nights would give you time to relax and enjoy the views, pool and walks around the reserve. I would recommend both trips :- Addo in the morning with Hittgeheims own warden who is very knowledgeable and the afternoon trip to a private game reserve Schotia with an open air Boma dinner and night drive was memorable. One word of advice take the transfer transportation it is worth the money. It is very dark and the roads are not good.Thanks Archie for a wonderful stay. My only piece of constructive criticism would be get a little more light in the dining room so that you are able to see the wonderful food you prepare. Other guests said the same. Overall though 5*.

Hitgeheim is a 5 star experience! The private villa rooms are beautifully decorated. The staff are polite and helpful. The food is gourmet. We loved the open concept design, with separate villas, decks, sitting rooms and restaurant (with both indoor and outdoor dining). And the views from everywhere on the premises are outstanding! A real luxury experience, close to Addo and private game reserves.

This place is AMAZING! From the minute you arrive, you feel like a king/queen, Kay made us feel like honored guests. The huge rooms are so beautiful with incredible views and so private. The attention to detail, every time you look in another direction you find another GREAT surprise! This is an affordable luxury that SHOULD NOT BE MISSED. The food was top-notch, even if you are not staying on the property, you should consider visiting for dinner. We loved meeting the owner, Archie and it is easy to see this property is a labor of love.
