Good reasonably central location for Karlsruhe. Convenient underground parking. Trams run directly past hotel entrance and can be a bit noisy at night/ early morning as they pass, but this is to be expected in the location. Rooms and bathrooms clean and comfortable.

Our flight was delayed so we arrived 2 hour later. Midnight instead of 10pm. No one there to check us in, hotel locked and not answering the phone. Left us stranded in middle of night and had to pay extra for a hotel 30 mins away

The whole room seemed outdated and could use a renovation. The window frames seemed a bit moldy, the curtain wasn't properly attached to the rail. The surroundings were very noisy, which made it hard to sleep. The person cleaning the room left their brush in my bathroom. I would have expected much better for the price.

Just stayed in the room for short period but rooms were clean and reception very helpful. No bar available but local bars near hotel and everything is in walking distance.

This is the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. It is positioned at an extremely busy intersection, so even in a room on the 4th floor, the traffic and noise is considerable. The room resounds with the constant rumbling of the tram (Straßenbahn), which also screeches as it turns the corner. To make matters worse, there was construction in the building, which produced a symphony of drilling and pounding sounds beginning around 8am. Impossible even to have a phone conversation. I stayed here for 6 days and was quite actually exhausted from the lack of sleep.
I took note of the hotel manager yelling at the housecleaning staff about not working fast enough (the man didn't even stop his berating as I walked by).
Others have mentioned the breakfast, which is decent. The staff in the breakfast area were always friendly, and if anything needed to be replenished, they were happy to do so.

Checking in was a problem because the automat did not issue my bill. Since I had not noted the room number, I had to phone. The immediate service was good. I was issued a new room number and key but it took 3 contact attempts before my invoice was emailed 2 weeks later. Room pleasant, with kettle. Covid test kit in room.

Convenient location for Supreme Court. Rooms pleasant and reasonable size.
Brekfast was slightly problematic. I went up just before 8 and the juice dispenser was almost empty. I managed to scrape together the last portion of scrambled eggs. Although one could hear the staff talking in the back room, it was 20 minutes (I noted the time on my watch) before anyone came to replenish the container, so that the half dozen people who came after me had a limited choice.

Though it was as clear certain aspects had been redone (and redone well), it seemed like the job didn’t get completely finished. It was also complicated to find the parking spots and to access the rooms from the garage and outdoors. The entrance we were told to go in was not clearly marked. Otherwise it was a nice stay.

Practical location close to tram#4, the area is under heavy reconstruction causing all sorts of problems (or at least that is what they tell you in the reception). Insisting on up front payment you have little choice. No fridge or air condition. Reception is separate from the hotel (short walk on the sidewalk). When roadwork finishes in mid 2020 you may want to try. Price is good, breakfast is great and glasses are small.

Great location and Breakfast!.
Property is going thru remodeling, a lot of noise and dust all over the place. Soecificalky at 6:30 am the noise from the street caused by the moving of is unbearable. Cant sleep and it lasts for 2 hours

Looks like the hotel is being renovated, and it very much needs renovating. I had booked a standard double room which had a decent size but everything was run down. Pillows felt like something one would get in the plane. Desk chair was very uncomfortable. Bed was ok.
I expected a fair value for the price but I did not get it.

I had a serious complaint to make on our first night of 3. The staff dealt with it very well and the rest of our stay was perfect.
They operate an unusual hotel system, whereby there are other businesses operating within the building. We found it tricky to find the reception.

The front desk is very nice and helpful. The room is great. Breakfast is tasty and has enough variety to choose. When I was staying, there happened to be some remodeling at rooms, but it didn't make any inconvenience. Nice stay.

The room we stayed in was directed to the courtyard and was close to the breakfast room. The hotel was good, location very close to the center.

The hotel rooms can't be accessed directly from the lobby. The reception being situated in a bar-type suite with street-level access, the hotel rooms can only be reached via the building's regular elevator and stairs, with a separate entry. Although the rooms are in decent shape, the hotel gives a run-down impression overall. The lobby was extremely unwelcoming. Rooms facing the street are noisy due to the tram stop.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews ! Me and my daughter stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful . Great room, wonderful breakfast, and fantastic location, tram right in front of hotel, but you could also walk to city center in about 10 min. Girls on the reception desk weren’t overly friendly but everything else was perfect. Price was great, I would def stay here again

Great value hotel and a good stopover on the way south. Comfortable rooms and pleasant staff. Good buffet breakfast, well worth it. Beware of the underground parking. There is a ramp system to put two cars in one space and someone had raised the platform. We could not leave the next morning for more than an hour as we had to wait for the Hausmeister to drive in and release us.

Great tram location. Only one entrance to rooms, but several exits. The hotel exists upon the top floor for an entire city block.

Convenient location for Supreme Court, opposite tram stop, but I had a quiet room facing the inner courtyard. Minibar would be useful, especially since the hotels own bar is for smokers after 8 p.m. Also a safe would be helpful. Good breakfast.

The cons for the hotel were the rooms access point, which was next door from the reception, so you have to step outside and there is no access from the lobby. We stayed for one night and had a great time. The receptionist was very friendly, the internet was fast, and the breakfast buffet was huge and plentiful. Parking spaces in the garage were a little tight and it took us a while to maneuver the car into the space. Also, we booked under "Hotel am Karlstor" but the hotel was recently renamed to "ZiHotel", so be careful.
The rooms were recently renovated and very nice. The only two negative points were that there was no AC (and it was really hot) and that the room did not have a fridge. Both points were minor for us but someone might care.

First time stay at this hotel. Comfortable, cleansed modern rooms, friendly front desk staff, central location.

The room furniture was really old, especially the bed & desk. The desk had a broken part (junction between the 2 sides), and the bed almost fell apart. Also, the room does not have a phone!
Finally, and surprisingly, it turned out that the hotel name is "Zi Hotel" & not as posted "Hotel am Karlstor"

A difficult place to find as they go by a different name and the hotel is only in the 4th floor of a building.
The reception desk is located in a very "smoky" bar at the street level.
The room had a dirty carpet, not lights in the bathroom and no telephone to contact the reception desk.
I can say that this is a strange setting hotel..
Nevertheless, the breakfast buffet was excellent!
