This place was near everything, but it seemed like Las Ovejas and the neighbouring bar were competing with their music until 3:00 am. It felt like we were in a speaker playing 2 different songs at the same time. You can tell the common area was nice at one time, but needs some love. The hotel seems forgotten about and the restaurant out front (which is beautiful) is the priority. Also, our mattress was rock hard and that’s coming from people who aren’t picky. We will stay somewhere else next time.

Please read the reviews and trust that the noise reviews are legitimate. There is a night club 25 meters from the back of these rooms. I did read the reviews and the staff warned us but it was so much worse than I imagined. There was music blaring and bumping till 3 am so much that the walls were shaking. If you are a light sleeper do not book this spot. We ended up leaving after one night.

Wow location is what it's all about! This wondrful hotel is walking distance to everything including the beach. When we first arrived we were greeted by Hillary. she immediately made us feel like family. She was incredibly helpful. She arranged the best sunset catamaran for us. So much fun. The red. WOW what a delicious huge breakfast at their beuatiful restaurant The owner came over and introduced himself What a great cool guy! Also makes you feel like you're at his home We can't say enough wonderful; things about the staff, service and overall experince. We will definitely be back.

Very cool place in a great location if you’re looking to be in the night life, close to the beach, and by all of the restaurants. As all of the other reviews, and the hotel said in advance, it is loud at night. The food is good, service was excellent, and it is exactly as advertised.

The people that worked there are very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast is the best breakfast in town and the live music is unbelievable and the drinks are awesome. Hard place to beat.

This hotel is in the heart of the city which means music blares into the morning hours. There is not concierge.

Room was clean, staff was friendly and the free breakfast was great. Very loud at night however. Not that it matters because you’re so close to the beach, but the pool isn’t clean.

I will not detail the issues I had with the accommodations or my stay due to the owner providing a full refund.

The location is great, the restaurant is delicious and lively, the breakfast is perfect. The room are in decent condition but smell humidity which make it hard to breathe, no light, good to sleep!

Noise

Love the area, super easy for what we wanted to do. The plants and property was a cool vibe, loved the food! Live music if you want that was pretty good some nights. A little noisy for our liking, but if you like night life it’s a good spot!

As other reviewers indicate, it is very noisy at night. It sounds like a boom box is in the room - it would have been fine if it was just music, but the DJ was also screaming at regular intervals "Sexy Time!". We had to change rooms because the shower was not working. For breakfast, which is included, they would not allow us to get the fruit smoothie bowls - they only let you choose from the cooked menu. When I asked for an exception - even though the prices were the same - it was treated as a big deal. When our smoothie bowls came, I noticed they were way smaller than the portions they were giving other customers. Staff is nice, but I felt like they were insincere. Usually in Costa Rica the people are very warm and authentic, but here it really felt they just wanted our money. Would not recommend.

I booked this hotel for my fiance and I. For the most part it was a nice facility. We arrived late at night on a Friday around 10:30pm and the restaurant was turned into a nightclub (which was disclosed when booking). However, the rooms were about 50 meters from the night club and it was very loud. Again, the booking did disclose that it would be loud, but I was not expecting it to be right outside of our room. Inside the room was pretty bare, very limited amenities, but it was clean and matched the pictures I saw online. All and all this hotel was just not for my fiance and I and we checked out after one night. The manager was very kind and refunded our remaining days. I would say that this hotel is a great stay for younger people looking to dive into the nightlife and party. That is just not what we were looking for. The free breakfast was very good and the staff was all very friendly.

Huge, clean room with AC! Great healthy food. Only negative was that you can’t have guests in your room at all and I wasn’t super clear on what was and wasn’t included in the breakfast. Amazingly kind staff and cool spot in the heart of Tamarindo. Definitely recommend :)

We enjoyed our stay at the Surf House, but the accommodations were not very good. The room was run down and the shower came out in a trickle. We heard the property used to be a hostel and was bought a year ago. The owners remodeled the restaurant which was absolutely lovely, and the front office. They had not started on the hotel rooms yet. The pool was not kept up- there was debris in it most of the time, which is understandable considering it was surrounded by trees. What made this place comfortable was the staff. They were exceptional! Breakfast came with our stay and it was very, very good. I would not stay there again until the remodeling is complete. Also, the noise from the music next door was extremely loud. I wore earplugs but I could still hear the band. We were warned ahead of time, so it didn't really bother us but please keep this in mind when booking this property. But we will consider staying there again in the future- they are on the right track with the remodel!

The staff, location, included breakfast, and amenities were awesome! The noise at night was VERY loud. There is a club very close by playing thumping music on the weekends. It was quieter during the week but earplugs were a necessity on the weekend. That being said, there were so many positives that I would definitely consider staying there again!

Remodeling the restaurant and shops. The rooms are in bad condition. Towels and bed covers are in bad condition.

Eat here. Don’t sleep here! Great location in the middle of town. Hotel resto has lovely food and attentive service. Hotel is mediocre but safe and clean enough. I stayed one week, but this is not a four-star hotel. It’s situated in a vortex of noise thanks mostly to a neighbouring disco that’s open 9pm – 3am. every. single. day. Earplugs barely muffle the noise. The music is stupid loud, and the hotel’s walls are paper thin. And, there’s even more noise to contend with: live music in the restaurant some evenings; construction noise starting early morning; street noise from cars, all-terrain vehicles, and delivery trucks; scraping noises from the hotel’s metal roof (tree branches? monkeys?). Hotel staff is great except for one who asked me what I do for a living. Don’t ask your guests that. It’s none of your beeswax! Even rocket scientists take vacation, okay? The hotel maintains vestiges of its hostel past. The rooms are long rectangles with 11-foot ceiling. Rooms are in surprising disrepair, or perhaps this is the result of bad renovations. Water in the shower is tepid but plentiful. Got a towel change halfway through the week, but I could not get staff to sweep my room of sand even after two promises that it would be done (it’s a beach town!). The hotel’s pool is small and sad, but the beach is a 5-min walk away. Loved the room’s metal door and deadbolt for safety. Wi-Fi worked reliably and so did cable TV so I could barely hear the TV over music from the disco!!

Great little place. Staff are all extremely nice. room was clean and comfortable. Not a ton of in-room amenities, but it is exactly as described. There is some noise at night from local clubs, but they were very clear about making sure we knew that in advance. It also wasn't that bad and never bothered us. If you are a light sleeper, a pair of basic ear plugs would solve the issue for sure. Free breakfast and coffee were quite nice each morning - really appreciated the variety and quality. On-site bar has good drinks and friendly bartenders. Location was perfect. Quick walk to beach, restaurants, etc. Overall, this was a great experience and I would go back for sure.

Great location, great staff, and amazing restaurant. The parking was a little rough, and the rooms were dated. All in all, was comfortable, but be great if the bathrooms and hot water situation was upgraded. Would definitely stay again.

This was a very disappointing experinece. We really looked forward to our 3 nights and now wish we never stayed there. The room was clean but the bathroom was disgusting and stinky (terrible sewage smell). There were old used bars of soap on the shower wall, a dirt ring in the toiler bowl, and someone elses stuff was left on the bathrooms door handle containing toiletries. There was no hot water. Luke warm at best. And terrible water pressure that it was impossible to shower after a day at the beach. No shampoo/conditioner, just a bar of soap. The room was advertised to have a king and queen beds. The king bed was hard as the floor and our backs started hurting from sleeping on it. The queen bed was actually a double and we couldnt use it instead of the king because it was too small. It was also impossible to fall asleep or stay asleep because the club right next door had parties until 3am everg single night that even earplus didnt drain the noise. It felt like the party was literally inside our room. The hotel staff did not give us a heads up about it. The reception was supposed to be available for inquiries via whats app till 11pm but when messaged to inquire about the noise, our messages werent even acknowledged at all. Not even the next morning. The staff were very friendly and the included breakfast at the cafe was delicious, but unfortunately not worth the price we paid for the hotel at all. We'd have rathered paid for breakfast than stay at this place.

We come to Tamarindo often, this was our first time staying at Surf House. The restaurant and front areas are awesome! The staff were some of the best we have experienced in Costa Rica, food was great and reasonably priced, the included breakfast was really good! Unfortunately we probably wouldn't stay here in the hotel again, the room was pretty run down, ceiling fan broken, no inside door handle to open the door (literally like stuck in the room) lots of bugs and we found a few scorpions! The pool area was pretty gross, it has potential but is run down and not maintained. But the worst part was the night club next door that had music so loud it shook the walls til 1-2AM every night.. and even with ear plugs it was completely impossible to sleep until it stopped. They warn you about loud music hear before you stay, but it was 10x worse than we were expecting even with the warning. If the staff and restaurant were not so awesome this would have been a 1 star review for the hotel. This place have potential to be a great place to stay, the area is awesome and has grown so much recently!

Such a nicely designed place. The rooms are very big, and clean. The beds are super comfort. The hotel has its own resturant, and the breakfast is served there, and it was absolutly winderful. I hope to return again.

It was perfect! The staff were so friendly, and it was a great place to stay I wish I could stay longer.

The free breakfast makes it all worth it.
