The location is worth 5 stars—it’s right in front of the beach. It’s also near a bunch of good restaurants and not far from 2 shopping malls and also close to many beach bars and souvenir shops. The included breakfast is also very good—all the cakes, cookies and pastries are homemade and delicious; the fruits are very fresh & the cooked dishes are also tasty. The staff are all very pleasant, helpful and accommodating, though none speak English (it’s hard to find a hotel in Joao Pessoa with English-speaking staff). The rooms are small. If they were clean, I might be able to forgive the size because of its great location, but they’re not (see photos of the bathroom). The bathroom is full of black mold; the shower head is crusted with minerals and the A/C has enough dust in it for you to know that it’s never been cleaned. This is management’s fault—not the housekeepers. Many hotels here will blame the mold on the sea air (“maresia”) and humidity, but if you know this problem exists, a manager should train staff to clean these problem areas more vigorously or more frequently.
