Our family had a lot of problems dealing with landlord. From the first day we truly felt he is trying to rip us of. He collected a larger deposit than initially agreed then wanted to charge us for electricity, this is very odd and we have never seen anything like that in our lifetimes. We were also asked to pay cleaning fee on our arrival in cash. Even neighbors came once and asked to be cautions because landlord is a known in the area for running his business like this… At the end of our stay he was reluctant to give our deposit back because he told that we damaged his furniture, which we absolutely haven’t. Then he let us choose, if you take your deposit back you will have problems in the future, and now week later we are still dealing with this. We were asked to pay for food and other fees.

The location is great. But that's about it.

Location is great. As we have lots of experience travelling our expectations regarding standards are not out if this world. We have lived in shared apartments, stayed in hostels and farmstays. We are not fussy. BUT. What a nightmare this stay turned out to be. I had payed via the booking.com app but the host kept aggressively insisting that I had not payed. He went so far as to inform me that he was trying to access my credit card information and trying to charge it - so I had to block my credit card. I had to call booking.com 3 days in a row because he kept hassling us. On multiple occasions Booking.com had confirmed to me as well as to the host that the payment HAD been made and that he must leave me alone. He did not. In addition he kept making up costs for us to pay that were not mentioned in the policies. Booking.com kept confirming that we would not have to pay these made up charges. And the host kept insisting we pay. He hasseled us to the extent that in the end I requested (and received) a written confirmation note from booking.com that confirmed that I don't have to pay any of these additional charges that he kept bringing up day after day - thank you booking.com. Imagine going on holiday an having the host hassle you every day and having to call booking.com nearly every day of your stay and even block your credit card... Thank goodness the booking.com service center is so good!!! The house was also in a bad state. The oven was out of order, the ceiling had such a bad water damage that water kept heavily dripping on the living room floor and parts of the ceiling were falling off and mildew is growing (see pictures attached). We were not informed of this prior to our stay. The shower in one of the rooms was broken - only dripplets of water came out. The place was also dirty - we found used toothpicks, dead insects and so much feces that we could not use the balcony (see pictures attached). The oven was not fixed throughout our stay.

It was really nice, well designed and calm place. If you want to chill with your friends or family far away from loud turist place is perfect place for you. Still this is just one 1 hour from Merida and 2 hours by car from Rio Lagartos, laguna rosada and flamingos. Really recommended.
