The home was absolutely gorgeous with an amazing view. Peter and his team were so great to work with and best communication I have come across when renting. Highly reccomend.

What an incredible property. The photos don’t do it justice—the property is even more beautiful and spacious in person! The owner Peter and the property manager Bret met us upon check-in, and showed us around the property to ensure we know where everything was. The Villa easily acommodates our party of 12 adults. We had everything we needed during the stay; filtered water, ice maker, fully equipped kitchen, coffee maker, towels and soaps. The location is perfect! So close to local stores and beach. When some hiccups occurred, Peter and Bret were quick to respond and resolve. Overall, Sun Monkey Villa has made our trip to Costa Rica such a memorable experience. We highly recommend this Villa to anyone looking for spacious and luxurious accommodation during their stay.

The property lived up to and surpassed our expectations, the pictures don't do it justice. We had a group of 10 adults and it fit us all with space to spare. It would have been nice if there were more queen or king beds but that would probably make it less accommodating to families. It was great that each bedroom had it's own bathroom. Macho and Maria kept the house and grounds in good order while we were there and were available whenever we needed anything. While the nearby town and beach are technically walkable, I wouldn't recommend it, the property is in a gated community with a steep driveway. Parking wasn't hard to find.

Great stay!! Bret helped out so much with bookings, transportation, dinner reservations basically everything. The location was outstanding and the activities he suggested were epic. Thanks so much !! Will be back

Our group absolutely loved staying at the Sun Monkey! The property was spotless, the views were amazing and the location was perfect. Macho was an excellent caretaker. We would definitely return!

We were looking to have a girls weekend in Costa Rica. The Villa comfortably fit all 12 of us. The community is double gated which made the house of ladies feel extra good. Bret and Peter were unbelievable. Felt like working with a 5-star concierge at a resort! They organized massage therapists to come to the house, they stocked our villa with food and alcohol, they arranged all transportation, booked all our restaurants for us, booked our zip line AND a private catamaran. It was a once in a lifetime trip and we didn’t want to say goodbye. Hoping we will be back again soon.

The property is amazing! Great outdoor area/verandas with gorgeous view of the ocean! We saw many beautiful birds, iguanas and monkeys on the property! The pool is large, clean and gorgeous as well! Macho and Maria were amazing! I read in a previous review that Macho wanders in and out frequently. That was absolutely NOT the case during our stay! He purchased the groceries from the list I gave him ahead of time so that we had plenty of food and beverages when we arrived. We were a group of 8 women ranging in age from 25-69. None of us wanted to worry about cooking meals so we had Maria cook dinners for us. Everything she made was fantastic! I highly recommend arranging meals with her if you want to just relax and enjoy! We rented golf carts and were able to use them to go to the beach very easily! Macho and Maria made our stay exactly as we planned! I can’t wait to return! I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying their stay and the host’s hospitality!

The outdoor space with infinite pool, balcony, patio and ocean view made us feel like we were living in a movie! The home is beautiful, quiet, double gated and located on the side of the hills overlooking the ocean. The kitchen was well appointed with spices, cookware and dishware. The owner as well as the hosts was very quick to respond when we wanted to extend our stay. We would highly recommend this home!

Our whole family of 12 enjoyed the Sun Money home for 5 days! And then we sent the family home and my husband and I stayed an additional 4 days! Was in a perfect location to see a lot of Costa Rica! House had everything we needed! Maria and Macho were there when needed. We used our own personal concierge that was a friend of a friend from home so these are services we didn't use from the house but were offered! Would definitely return to the Sun Monkey on a trip back to Costa Rica!!

We had such a great time staying at the property and it was a perfect fit for our large group. The view is amazing and we really liked being in a gated community. Macho and Maria made things very easy and helped with anything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

We just spent a wonderful week at the Sun Monkey. We are a group of 3 families that travel together every year. Finding a home that can accommodate all of us and allow us to relax and spend time together isn't always easy. The Sum Monkey was perfect. Rooms was very comfortable and the outdoor space was used constantly. Macho and Maria are incredible hosts. Macho helped arrange transportation from the airport and gave us a quick tour of the area when we arrived. He also arranged for golf carts for the week so we didn't need rentals. Maria made wonderful dinners for us (we are still trying to recreate some of her delicious food) and the referral for Sibu Tours was perfect. We didn't really have to plan anything until we arrived. The house felt very secure and was convenient to the beach, restaurants and grocery stores. It's obvious that some nice updates have been made to the house. There are still some issues that need to be repaired/updated, but nothing that impacted our trip. Playa Hermosa isn't a big tourist area. It is quiet and beautiful. Loved watching sunsets from poolside at the house. One note - for a lot of activities, cash is preferred and sometimes required. Pura Vida!

Sun Monkey Villa is an Incredible home situated on a hill overseeing the Beautiful Playa Hermosa. Each of the main houses guest rooms have wonderful views and are the perfect way to wake up each morning. The main living area has grand doors opening to the infinity pool which share the same Wonderful views of Playa Hermosa. Lots of time was spent in the pool and experiencing these views. Property is working on updating a few features, which hadn’t been completed yet ( replacing stovetop) but this didn’t prevent us from having great meals with our large 14 person group. Outdoor areas were well used by us as most of our time was spent in pool, on cover patio, where massages took place and Uber outdoor kitchen area cooking and playing games. Host couple Macho and Maria are wonderful people who we’re always on premise to assist us with ANY matters of concern or experiences we wanted to take part in (Dinner reservations, excursions or just picking up some groceries) This was an experience of a lifetime and should be enjoyed by anyone who stay at The Sun Monkey Villa.

My extended family (my husband, two sons, my sister and her husband and their son, my brother and his wife, my youngest brother, my mother, and my mother-in-law) all spent a week in June at Sun Monkey. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space/privacy, but still enjoy quality time together, most instances out on the amazing pool deck. Like other reviewers have said, the pictures do not do Sun Monkey justice. The views are stunning! Having never traveled further south/west than Cancun, I was slightly nervous about the open air concept (all windows/doors on the main level open), especially because of bugs/critters, but I loved it and we had no issues. It was very hot (as expected) when we were there, but the individual AC units in each of the bedrooms worked wonderfully and there was a nice breeze on the pool deck. We took advantage of the golf cart rentals and did not rent a car. We arranged for transportation (with Macho's help) for the few excursions we did, but otherwise we used the golf carts daily to get to the local restaurants (all delicious!), the little market, and the beach. With the exception of the excursions, everything we needed/wanted was in reach of the golf carts. Maria had a welcome lunch ready for us (requested in advance) that was delicious. Macho and Maria were lovely. Costa Rica, and Sun Monkey, did not disappoint and only exceeded our expectations!

We had 12 people in our family stay at Sun Monkey. There was more than enough rom for everyone to be comfortable. The view!!!!! omgosh!!! The pool area was where we "lived" for a week, with the backdrop of the jungle and the ocean with its amazing sunsets. The patio has huge tables outside to eat and play games, a sound system, a gorgeous pavilion, and a large bbq area. There was little need to go anywhere else. Maria's breakfasts were very helpful and delicious. Because we stayed in for dinner many times, the only suggestion that I have is that it would have been helpful to get a kitchen "tutorial". The knobs are in Spanish and difficult to read. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Sun Monkey.

A full description of our week at Sun Monkey begins with the amazing view in the morning and ends with breathtaking sunsets. Each morning we opened the glass doors and drank coffee on the deck, often greeted by monkeys passing through and always joined by a variety of birds and at least two iguanas. After breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen (made easier due to an offer by Maria to stock the refrigerator prior to our arrival), the hardest choice was whether to leave the comfort of the porch for one of the excursions suggested by Macho (we did four great ones, the best being a snorkeling trip and stop at Egg Beach for a view of a cave and some Coatis, with a sunset return to Papagayo beach). The house itself had plenty of room for three families, including 5 teenagers — who loved the separate TV room with video game hookups after long days of hiking, swimming and wandering down the hill to the mercado and souvenir shop. Each bedroom had its own air conditioning unit, which made sleeping very comfortable. All beds were clean and comfortable, and ample clean linens and towels were provided. Just outside the front door (and for a daily fee), Macho kept two golf carts charged and ready for us to drive to the beach (easier parking), the market, and sunset dinners at one of the many restaurants lining the beach. Each day we would ask Macho for his dinner recommendation, and he would make a call for us to reserve a table large enough for our group. We ate twice at the fabulous Casita del Marisco! But perhaps the best meal was the one Maria cooked for us one night — pork ribs, beans & rice, a chickpea dish, a beautiful fresh green salad, fresh pineapple salsa, and a delicious layered cake. We highly recommend arranging this in advance! It’s hard to pick the best part of our stay at this fabulous house! Interesting adventures, delicious food — especially amazing fresh seafood, relaxing mornings and evenings by the pool, the endless options of great activities and suggestions from Macho, the care provided by Maria. We even managed to finish an entire 1000 piece Yoda jigsaw puzzle!

What a wonderful trip!!! The house was beautiful and the pictures of the views don't do it justice. Everything was so easily accessible by golf cart! Macho and Maria were just the best! We are still raving about Maria's dinners and how much we loved Macho! Thank you Sun Monkey for the wonderful memories!!!

The location and paradise view it is simply spectacular. No regrets about the investment On the other hand, the house does require some maintenance. The guest home had the main lock that is not working and the air conditioning at the guest house room did not work too. I believe with little detail the house can be rated as an outstanding home for a vacation. We did not use any of the services offered so l can not make an educated opinion about it. I was told that Sundays there is no service if something is needed it is the day off for the people who take off the house, so that was a bit surprising to me. It is a nice and great place to stay in general, with small details the house could jump to the next level. Thanks!

Ten of us stayed at sun monkey for my 50th birthday celebration. The house was stunning - the pool was bigger than I thought! We loved all the outdoor spaces including $55 per hour massages that were top notch (ask for deep tissue ahead of time - mas fuerte - if you desire). Monkeys visited us twice to eat the yellow flowers on the tree. Macho was amazing, helping us with whatever we needed. Tours are cheaper thru Macho than online! Maria cooked for us twice for $25 per person and the meals were outstanding!! Great tres leches cake. We snorkeled and took a fishing excursion right off of playa hermosa. We were lucky and brought in a huge 35 lb Mahi and a 200 pound white marlin (had to release that one). Saw lots of dolphins, spotted eagle rays and sea turtles. Found a hidden fish market in coco and bought a huge tuna filet (fed all 10) and a large bag of shrimp for $60. We rented a golf cart from macho for those who didn’t want to traverse the hill to the store, restaurants or the beach. Incredible experience. Would definitely do it again.

As others have reviewed, the outdoor space at Sun Monkey is sincerely breathtaking and forsure the star of this home. The interior however leaves a bit more to be desired. We are a small family of four that stayed in this very large home, and we struggled finding a bed that did not have some type of stain on it. In fact nearly EVERY fabric surface from curtains, rugs, lamp shades, all furniture cushions both inside and out and all bed linens were stained in some way. In general Sun Monkey seemed grimy and unequivocally needs a thorough deep cleaning especially of high touch surfaces like light switches, handles and every part of the kitchen. There is a need of general maintenance such as a whole house paint job due to majority of the walls being dirty and stained, and even exposed raw plaster of a repair job that was not finished. There were curtains falling off of the rods, and multiple cabinets that are missing knobs leaving sharp screws exposed. I've rented homes all over the world specifically four in Costa Rica alone and I have a good and fair grasp of expectations based on price, reviews, photos and the home's rental listing itself, and for the first time in a while, I feel duped. Per the description, I was expecting a luxurious Costa Rican home both inside and out. What I got was a dated and unfortunately grimy party house that seems used and abused and not kept up. Although Sun Monkey is spacious, it's definitely quantity over quality. We didn't even have drinking water during our stay with no real explanation as to why it wasn't working when we asked Maria. On a positive note though Macho did arrange a zip lining tour which was a blast, and he had our two children help him plant lettuce in the greenhouse which made for a memorable experience.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sun Monkey property. Maria and Macho really make the experience wonderful. We had Maria cook us a dinner (something I would highly recommend. Her food is delicious) and Macho brought in a traditional Costa Rican guitarist to serenade us while we ate. They were also very helpful in finding excursions and renting equipment to play on the beach. Loved every minute of our stay here.

We loved our stay at the Sun Monkey! The pictures do not give the house and views justice. Seeing everything in person was even more beautiful! We had 13 in our group and the house had plenty of space. The Wifi is great and we never had a reason to turn on the tv. The added bonus was Macho and Maria! They made the stay even more accomodating. We were able to send a small grocery list to Maria where she was had us snacks and drinks available at the house upon our arrival. There is a grocery market (Luperon) within walking distance of the house where we picked up some extras to cook a few meals at the house . Macho was ever so gracious to make us dinner reservations a few nights after we arrived. Macho also coordinated Diego and Manrique (highly recommend BOTH of them) to give us transporation for our entire trip - to and from the airport, to and from excursions and trips in to different towns. Diego also coordinated all of our excursions. He speaks English very well and is also fluent in French. We went the week after Christmas (the busiest week of travel) and never had problems getting dinner reservations and we did not book most of our excursions until we got to the house. It costs less to book in Costa Rica than booking online. We did not rent a car but Macho had golf carts availble at the hosue that we rented for the week. We took the golf carts to Playa Hermosa a few times. Our favorite restaurant on Playa Hermosa was Las Casita Del Marisco (fresh tuna, cold drinks, great service and VERY affordable) but we loved Robertos and Aquasports has a great environment. Paws House Roasters is the coolest little coffee shop with bakery. We took the golf cart there a few days - coffee is amazing! If you need special order cake or cupcakes, give them a call. They also bake fresh breads. We had the trip of a lifetime and would like to thank Pete for his wonderful hospitality and for helping make our trip almost effortless. The red carpet was rolled out for sure!

An absolutely gorgeous home. Easily accommodated our 16 people. View and pool fantastic. Easy drive from Liberia airport. Would recommend a car. Hill is steep to the beach and Playa Hermosa is limited in restaurants, etc. we mostly went to Coco beach about 20 minutes away. I worried about mosquitoes and bugs, but didn’t get one mosquito bite. Loved our monkey family that showed up from time to time in tress nearby. I would highly recommend the stay. Macho and Maria are a treasure to the property.

Location is lovely. Hermosa is a more quiet area than CoCo - extremely family friendly. Very peaceful beach with some nice restaurants. Roberto’s, Ginger are great. Macho and Maria are very nice and helpful. Bedrooms and house layout are excellent. Individual AC units in each bedroom is huge plus. Pool overlooking the ocean is spectacular. We were group of 12 and everyone had tons of space. We rented golf carts to go to and from beach restaurants and supermercado- which has everything you really need. Only small critique is linens, towels and kitchen need some updating/refresh. Also, hot tub kind of pointless as does not work along with pool. But truthfully place is a great value for the beauty and utility of the property for a larger group. Excellent proximity to all activities. We appreciate everyone’s hard work who we came to meet and interact with - Diego and Rusby! The people in CR are wonderful. Muchos Gracias! Take care.

The rental process was seamless and the owner is very easy to work with. Also, onsite the property is managed very well by a couple who can assist with cooking, cleaning, directions, recommendations etc. We were bummed that the hot tub and pool can not be used at the same time.

This is the perfect place for a family vacation. We loved the openness of the living area/outside. The grandkids loved the visits from the monkeys, iguanas and other wildlife! We never felt threaten by them. The view and sunsets were spectacular. Macho & Maria were great. They were always available, but never got in our way or bothered us. They referred Diego for our activities and he was absolutely fantastic! I would definitely recommend him! Thank you again for our Trip of a Lifetime!

House & property were amazing. Can’t beat the sunsets. Took the best snorkeling trip ever which included dolphins, manta rays, octopus, tons of fish & sea turtles! Zip lining was a blast as well. Macho & Maria were great and provided whatever we needed. Highly recommend booking this property and can’t wait to go back!

Amazing time with family and wonderful memories made. Best pool we’ve ever enjoyed!! Can’t beat the view. Large areas to gather family inside and on the patio with huge opening doors in between. Great restaurants nearby too. Enjoy!!

We had a weeklong family reunion with a wide range of ages and everyone had a magnificent time. The house and view are every bit as beautiful as pictured. The location is close to the gorgeous Hermosa beach yet tucked away on a quiet hillside offering a magnificent view of the ocean and sunsets. House was well maintained and suited us perfectly. Macho and Maria are a delight and so helpful. We had Maria prepare dinners every other night and would recommend you hire her. Peter, the owner, was responsive and helpful with all our questions.

The property is absolutely stunning. Things we found annoying were if you wanted to use the hot tub you had to find the house manager to turn it on and then it took two hours for it to heat up. Never found out if it ever reached 100 degrees. Sometimes could not find the house manager. The house listing says there is a fire pit. When we asked how you light it the house manager said it was just for show and you can’t light it. Maria, the housekeeper is Super. She cooked dinner for us on two occasions and quite delicious. She kept the house immaculate. Also,found many light bulbs needed to be replaced.

The House was as advertised and better. Stunning views, comfortable beds, crisp AC in bedrooms, outdoor entertaining area was perfect for our group of 9 Adults We spent our days on excursions and late afternoons, evenings at the house. We went to Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa, Playa Flamingo, Coconuts bar. We did a tour with Alex from Fayla Tours.. that was our best day! Alex was AMAZING. Sloths, Monkeys, Rainforest, Hanging bridges, boiling mud pits, waterfalls, hot springs.. was a very full day! We had Maria cook for us 3 nights. Highly recommend having her cook some meals or appetizers. Macho was there whenever we needed him. Both Macho and Maria were so kind and helpful during our stay. One thing I will note is that the golf cart is $40 per day whether you need it or not. If you say you want it for just one day, you have it for the whole week.. even on our departure day we had to pay for it when we left at 10:30am. You cannot pick and choose the days you'll rent it. It was definitely needed from Playa Hermosa to the house, which is a bit of a trekk.. we made multiple trips to get everyone and the young adults walked. A 4 seater would have been better for us. As mentioned in previous reviews some of the kitchen items could use some replacing..the dishwasher for one. Aside from that.. which I feel I'm nit picking.. it truly was an amazing stay. I will miss those Unforgettable Sunsets!! Hope to return to Sun Monkey next year!

This place has beautiful pool with ocean view. Owner purchased new pack and play for our infant grandson and there was also a highchair. I recommend renting the golf cart for quick visits to the close-by store so you don't have to walk the hill. Caretakers are excellent to work with and very accomodating.
