The house was 80% there. The challenges : downstairs shower flooded the bathroom and you needed to mop and wash towel everytime some one showered
Outside back area was filled with rat traps. If you showered outside you flooded the rat trap and all the rat turds would float at your feet. Really unpleasant.
You can’t barbq because there is no room and the grill is surrounded by rat traps too.
So all of those great features are really not accessible.
Lastly there is absolutely no where to unpack your clothes. The dressers are filled with bedding and there are no closets. Come on give your guest a dresser or two.
The house is sweet, great porch , wonderful beds very attractively decorated. Really a great rental except for the above mentioned.
Would I rent again….maybe if the rat stuff was cleaned up and the shower was fixed.

We loved everything about our stay here! The company handling the rental was absolutely fabulous to work with and had excellent communication! I was really impressed with how communicative they were and how quickly they replied to any questions I had. They made the rental process super easy. The property was very clean and in a great location. The property is very old and likely original to that area, where everything else has probably been torn down and rebuilt. However the renovations and updates on this house were great! Very cute and new. Our boys enjoyed their own area upstairs with beds, bathroom, sitting area and balcony. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs with a bathroom. We were right across from the beach and could sit and watch it from the balcony. It was nice to be able to walk out to the beach and walk the few steps back home to rest and eat before heading back out. The surrounding area was great and also very clean. We found great little places to eat and were pleasantly surprised to find such a quiet, clean little area in California. We will definitely be back and hope to deal with the same rental agency again as they made the whole process a breeze!

This house is a block off the beach with partial views of the ocean from the second floor. Super clean, with brand-new furnishings throughout, updated kitchen and nice beds. A bit quirky -- some narrow doorways, no windows in the master bedroom -- but it is obvious that the homeowners want their guests to be comfortable.

First, the good. The house is unique. You will not find a more interesting house in Oxnard. It is definitely memorable. Remax made the rental process easy. We didn't have to call them for anything during our stay. The house is right across the street from the beach with easy access. The harbor, shops and restaurants are a short walk, bike ride or drive away. The outdoor shower does come in handy after the beach. Some things to be aware of: the ceilings in the hall off the kitchen are low (I'm 6'4" and whacked my head on the guest bedroom door frame). There is only one small closet in the master bedroom, and it is full of stuff. There is an iron, but no ironing board. There is no place to sit outside and relax. Parking is either on the street in front or on the side of the house. The downstairs bathroom door from the hall is very narrow. Tall people should plan on showering in the upstairs shower.

Overall I'd say our experience was wonderful. The Shack has been nicely decorated and has all modern amenities. It's very clean and quiet here. It's conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and coffee shops plus the BEACH. The weather was tempermental and was sunny, windy, and foggy in the days we stayed. The kids enjoyed the netflix access on the smart TVs and wifie. However, netflix was intermittent something due to the strength of Wifi in the Shack I think. This was ok because they should not be glued to TV in a beautiful spot like this. The master has a TV with a DVD player and lots of DISNEY movies. This was a nice suprise for my younger son. Note:please obtain correct cables though for the TV/DVD connection because it is not the correct type and the videos do not play in color. I think you need RGBY type cables and all that is there is yellow and white.I would recommend evaluating whether or not check in can be earlier than 4pm since checkout is at 10a. This seems like an odd time of day for checkin.

The place was pretty awesome. Decorated nicely and we did not need to much extras as the place provided cookware and wine openers throws and wifi ect. We ate at a near by restaurant, Waterside Restaurant & Wine Bar. It was really good and they had live music. My only complaint was upon leaving you are required to pull off all of the linens off all the beds and we only used 2 beds but we took them off all four beds. We also had to gather all towels and wait for them to wash to put them in the dryer. This is not a problem unless you read the paper when you were ready to leave and had to wait 46 min for the washer to end. It was a little frustrating but overall not a deal breaker.

We stayed in this lovely home for a long Easter weekend. It has excellent access to the beach and some views of the water from the upper level. The house is super cute and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. We were only 3, but you could easily have two couples and a few kids stay here together. There's no yard or outside area, but you can be on the beach in seconds. Oxnard is also a great area: bike trails, a park nearby, and beautiful beaches that are never crowded. And the quaint downtown area of Ventura is just up the road.

Location over comfort
I will start out by saying, we made every effort to find the silver lining with our stay. Unfortunately and fortunately, due to various concerns, we spent most of our stay outdoors and away from the property. We enjoyed the gorgeous scenic drive to the Hollywood Shack which was a short 50 minute ride from our place. When we arrived, it was unclear where our designated parking spot(s) were. We parked in front of the garage/master bedroom for the better portion of the trip. Not sure if this is an actual parking spot but we made due. We did a quick walk through of the property before unloading our car. We were surprised to find what looked like mouse droppings on the bathroom floor and both downstairs bedrooms! I immediately started sanitizing the entire house and cleaning the “already cleaned and sanitized” property. When we booked our stay, we planned on having family join us. Unfortunately, after finding mouse droppings, I was embarrassed to have anyone stay. I called property management and informed them of my findings. They offered to have an exterminator come by to inspect the area? I don’t know what they found or if they took added measures to ensure our unwanted guests wouldn’t make an appearance during our stay. We did not get a call with the outcome. I was exhausted and did not want to spend my entire trip voicing my concerns about the shack so I decided to move forward and tried to make the best of the situation. The location was perfect! We walked on the beach the first night of our stay and every morning/evening for the duration of our stay. We enjoyed the Ventura and Channel Islands harbors too. The balcony views were breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the sunset from there and on the sand throughout our trip. I did not sleep well because I was nervous about the possibility of waking up to a furry friend staring back at me. The property management did offer to have housekeeping come back to clean the place again. I declined their offer because I did not have much confidence in their definition of clean and had already cleaned the house again myself. The cleaning crew had been there the day prior to our check in. I washed every towel in the place and stripped our bed and washed the sheets on there as well after I found mouse droppings on the bed too! Aside from the mouse issue, the house was charming and could have been cozy. It’s a cute place and the location does not get any better. We will opt to pass on this one next time.

We enjoyed our second stay in this very unique home. It is appointed well, kudos to the designer. The home is old in its construction and layout, but updated near perfectly. The only inconvenience is that the master bedroom does not have a bathroom. But, that didn't cause too much of a problem. A lot of VRBO's require some go-with-the-flow adjustments. Overall the property is remarkable. We walked to the ocean with our morning coffee and sat on the deck with wine to watch the sunset. We have three adult children, (2 married +1), and they were excited about the quirkiness of the home. Well supplied, plenty of kitchen space to cook meals, and lots of inviting sitting areas; we used them all. Make sure to play a round of Scrabble upstairs. Great experience.

It wasn’t clear how to turn on TV so I called office and they were closed during our entire stay. A door that I opened to the outside was impossible to re close so we had to put a broom through the handles to keep it from flying open. When we left for a drive and we returned, people had parked in our spot and two other cars had parked in front of the house and door making it difficult to even get in.

Perfect little beach house!
We had the most amazing stay! This beach house manages to squeeze charm, comfort AND an incredible amount of cozy sleeping spots into its small footprint. For us it was just perfect for two, close families of four. The decor is fresh, beachy and sweet without being saccharine. It was very well set up with appliances and basic necessities--and spotlessly clean. The management company was easy to reach and extremely personable, and we had zero issues during our stay. If you need a lot of space to spread out or have toddlers who love to climb (those double bunk beds are high!), you may want to keep looking, but for us it was absolute heaven. We will definitely be coming back if they will have us!

This home is just adorable! It is decorated so cute. It’s cozy. It has 5 very comfortable beds, 3 of them being bunk beds that the kids loved. Plenty of TV’s and games. Right across from the beach with great views of the ocean from the 2nd story patio. Unfortunately it rained when we went so we didn’t get to use the patio but that’s our fault for going in November (not usually an issue in Southern California). Would definitely recommend this place.

Overall the property is remarkable. We walked to the ocean with our morning coffee and sat on the deck with wine to watch the sunset. When we first pulled up to the house, our children (ages 9-11) asked why we rented a haunted house. It really does look like a Shack. As we tell our kids, never judge a book by it's cover. The house is well decorated on the inside with ample space. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. And you really can't beat the location, literally across the street from the beach. Our only complaint is that the walls were a bit thin, and we could hear everything going on outside the house. Still, we would rent their again.

Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover
When we first found the property, our kids were less than impressed by the outside and suspected it might be haunted. Once we entered, their opinions changed. The house is well decorated and equipped, the beds are very comfortable, and the location to the beach can’t be beat. The kids enjoyed exploring all the books and crannies, as well as hanging out on the top level deck. We wouldn’t mind staying here again.

The pictures of this home do not do it justice when you stay here in person. The home was more than large enough for a family of 4. We were literally steps from the sand and a short drive to the channel island boat slips, shopping and restaurants. There were zero issues checking in or checking out and the home was very well maintained. We would stay here again!

Charming, with fantastic location. Just across from the beach with great views from the spacious, well furnished patio deck. Well stocked with beach assessories (towels, boogie boards, beach chairs, sand toys, outdoor shower). Multiple seating areas made it nice for hanging out. Short walk to breakfast or harbor. All in all this place was perfect for us.

Had a quiet and relaxing time in oxnard, house is charmingly decorated with a beach feel, kitchen is well stocked with essentials, everything is clean, comfortable furniture, house has everything you need to enjoy the beach, (boogy boards, surf boards, towels, bikes, kids beach toys), the rooftop deck seating area has a great view and is perfect for lounging around or playing board games, can even watch the sunset from the deck, proximity to the beach was a huge plus. only issues we ran into, the bike pump was not functional and the downstairs master bedroom has no windows that open, so it got pretty hot during the day if the door was not left open.

We enjoyed a relaxing 1 1/2 weeks with great weather, morning walks on the beach and afternoon swimming. The beach house had everything we needed: chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas, towels! This house has the perfect layout for parents and kids to each have their own area!!
