Generally speaking we had a nice stay here, but there were a few things we were unaware of, the first being that The Bear Den is located in a resort. We were thinking it was a bit more tucked away and remote. Regardless, we had a very peaceful stay and the proximity to the parks/downtown is ideal. This spot would be perfect for a family with kids. We also didn't realize just how much taxidermied animals were part of the decor: there were considerably more heads and animal displays than in the listing photos. Might not bother some folks but we're city dwellers so it was a little startling and spooky, especially in the dark. Other than a few cobwebs and the wifi network being listed incorrectly on the info. sheets (we figured it out), it was a nice stay with perfectly adequately accommodations, including clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and spacious bedrooms. We went to the Starved Rock, Buffalo and Matthiessen parks. Went to Ottawa, took river cruise. Enjoyed dinner in downtown Utica. Learned about the history of the area. Enjoyed Grand Bear resort and villa. Will go again.

We've been to this area before this plsce is always great. Just a fun nice very relaxing time.

Very clean, comfortable and centrally located accommodation to local attractions. Host was very responsive and thoughtful with treats and water provided for our stay.

Great location

A well-appointed and well-furnished house to use as a base to explore Starved Rock and other nearby State Parks. Mark is a very thoughtful host, and the welcome basket of bananas and muffins were a pleasant surprise! Located inside the Grand Bear Resorts, it is walkable to everything the resort has to offer. We will be back in summer, when the resort will be fully functioning.

Plenty of room and nicely decorated

We spent a wonderful weekend in this beautiful place, we were received very hospitably, We were surprised that owner prepared some snack and water for us, on the last day we were allowed to stay as long as we want. Very nice place! I highly recommend!

Enjoyed location and size for 2 couples. One of the bathrooms were downstairs; so not very convenient. Very dirty; so that was a bummer and gross. Nice location and size

We loved everything about our stay. Or a bit disappointed that we were not able to use the fireplace however, we understand now with the history of the fire. Would be nice if the listing was changed, the order more accurately reflect that as we were looking forward to a fireplace. Otherwise everything was great. Left our stay.

The rental was much larger than we expected. Huge bedrooms and the living area downstair was very nice. We would love to stay again.

It was the perfect place to hike and stay!!

The place was well taken care of and bigger than the pictures made it seem plenty of indoor and outdoor space to play and not to far from the amenities of local towns

We enjoyed our stay, it was so peaceful and we appreciated how well furnished it was.

Mark offered quick communication and nice extras for us. Check in and out was super easy. Location is great for trail walking and nature viewing. Enhanced cleaning of common areas would be nice. As well as toppers for mattresses. They are very firm- some may like that tough! It was a girls weekend and we hope to stay with Mark again.

This was the perfect location for a fall getaway to do some hiking at Starved Rock. We will definitely be back for an extended stay visit!

This villa was exactly what we were looking for. Close to the state parks, clean, easy check in/check out. Host had muffins and fresh bananas out on the table when we arrived. Check out was easy, didn't require too many cleaning tasks or procedures like some rentals do. Definitely would stay again.

Great location, quiet area. Only complaint would be the beds they were on the hard side and very noisy other than that absolutely awesome
