David is the most pure human on Earth. All of us should strive to be more like him, and channel his purity through our actions, values, and thoughts. We should capture David in a net (nicely) so that scientists can clone him. If the world becomes populated only by David clones, then the world will become a true paradise. He brings a cosmic balance to the universe, the actions of all bad people is offset by his existence and his radiating good nature. Also, nice place

I stayed in the cozy hut for 1 night and I loved it. Its surrounded by nature and a lovely place. David is very friendly and helpful. You can eat breakfast and dinner there. This village is a great place to spot Quetzals. I havent seen one in the Nat.park Quetzal but I saw one in the village, at the end next to the school. The money for a tour is worth it, otherwise its very hard to spot Quetzals.
And definitely stay at this accomodation. Great value for the money!

David, the proprietor, was fantastic! He made us feel very welcome and always had such a friendly, warm presence. The location is great as well.
Not that there was anything wrong with the stay or the property, but just wanted to warn other guests to come prepared for the cold! It's easy to think Costa Rica is always warm, but this microclimate requires dressing for cold weather. As long as you're prepared, you will love your stay. Treat yourself to this little gem in the cloud forest!

David, the owner, is the most sweetest person you will ever meet. He is super friendly, always smiling and helps you out with all you need to know, including finding the best routes to go from A to B using Waze.
Even though the kitchen officially closes at one moment in the evening, he arranged for my son to get an extra meal late in the evening.
Nothing

It is a nice, small, clean place. The guy at the reception was very kind and helpful. Having the restaurant onsite is a plus eventhough the portiones could be bigger.
For staying with small kids I recommend to look somewhere else though. Our kids enjoyed the premised and the freedom to run around but they were both leaving with runny noses and a cough due to the cold nights (we had enough warm clothes).
The heaters are just too small to heat up the cottage. The pile of blankets are great but small kids get uncovered during the night so it's easy to end up with children having a cold.
You will see feeding platforms and fruit trees at other places. It's fun for the kids to easily spot birds. Unfortunatly nothing like that at this place.

Absolutely everything ! People were nice and lovely, the family mood in is adorable. The food is delicious !
Few hikes to go exploring around, really close to the lodge. So many positive things to say about.
Nothing, I absolutely loved that place !

The food was surprisingly good. Location was good for bus access (ie a 2-3km walk from where the bus drops you), but a long way from the best places to see the Quetzal.

Beautiful cabins with excellent views over the forest. It has free trails to waterfalls or around the forest canopy. The restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are lots of hummingbirds. There is a lovely pizza restaurant Los Colibries a 5 min walk. The owner will taxi you back up to the intersection to catch the bus to San Jose or San Isidros el General. It gets chilly once the sun sets but there are heaters in the cabins and blankets.
Be warned, the road down is steep if you are walking with luggage (or driving)! If you dont have a car it is quite a hike down the road to other places, and worse back up again, although I did manage to hitch a ride the 6kms back up from Batsu gardens. It does mean you get the views though.

The place with the little fishpond and with the flowers and hummingbirds all over around were like a fairytale. The cottage was confy and cozy with the wood-burning fireplace.
It was really cold at night, but we got enough blankets to not freeze during sleeping :)

49 yr old, solo female traveler. This place is absolutely amazing! Hi in the mountains. I got lost in San Jose so lost hours here(they do not have street signs in CR so it is easy to get lost). I arrived at night during a thunderstorm. They had the fireplace going in the communal room, was very cozy! They made Dinner and Breakfast for a small charge which was perfect!
The cabins are fantastic! It was windy and raining didn't effect these sturdy cabins! Woke up to stunning views of the mountains from my bed! Big Windows! Yes it clears up during the day as the hosts predicted! Hosts were awesome! They have trails to the waterfalls near them. Birds everywhere! I heard a quetzal but didn't see it as I forgot my binoculars at home (beware CR does not have). This is a nature lovers dream!

The location is great, the walk to the waterfalls is beautiful, you can see a lots of birds and you can fish. The staff is very friendly
Despite the many blankets on the bed, it is a bit cold at night. Beds and pillows could be a bit more comfy

Beautiful grounds, lovely trails. Very nice helpful staff. Clean room.
It was very cold at night in the room. A very noisy fountain that kept me awake.

Staff, location, trails
You need a car to really take advantage of the location. Doing it by foot/taxi is bit pricey and take a lot of time.

great location close to the highway, but very secluded and quiet with nice vegetation and mountains around the property. my cabin was very cozy with large windows to view the surrounding area. Plenty of blankets and a little heater was perfect for the cool nighttime temperatures.
initially it was hard to find my cabina in the dark. I wish I had a map to my room (I arrived after 8)

this place was absolutely amazing. very good rate for a private little cabin in the cloud forest. trails to beautiful waterfalls are nearby. the restaurant is rather cheap and serves huge portions of good food. the family who runs it is incredibly friendly and made the stay. it is a bit rustic and gets cold at night, but they make a fire every night in the lodge and give you tons of blankets and a space heater. really cool and laid back place that i would stay at again anytime. David is the best.

Las Cataratas Lodge is a hidden-away gem of a place. At the top of the San Gerardo da Dota valley, it is a 100% Tico establishment. On Sunday afternoons, families from the area come to fish in the trout pond and have Bernardo fry up their fresh catch. David and his father, Bernardo, proudly care for the property and for their guests' experience. For the birder, the hummingbirds were spectacular--the most species and best photos of the whole valley. Several other endemic species sighted here as well. Breakfast was great and David made the best coffee of our 3 weeks in CR. Delicious! We would love to return another time.
It was cold, really cold. There is no heat in the cabin and the shower is an interesting experience. David and Bernardo provide warm, wool blankets and it was kind of like a cabin-camping adventure.

Simple, in a wonderful way. Outstanding coffee! Excellent food in the restaurant, thoughtful, congenial host. A treasure trove of hummingbirds...
Chilly at night, but not uncomfortably so. Stay in room 1, and David will make you a fire in the fireplace...
