The location of this hotel is the best. It overlooks the mountains and has many play parks around for kids. The room was good. Bathrooms were clean however the liquid soap smell was a put off.

The British gentleman who works the front desk at night is a character. I really enjoyed talking with him. He gave me great advice on where to go and what to see. He was also very willing to help hotel guests with whatever they needed. The location is great; it's right in the middle of town. WiFi was strong and fast.

My room had a weird odor and it didn't go away even after I told the hotel staff and they did something (I'm not sure what) to address it. From what I heard from other guests, the restaurant was having a lot of issues getting orders out quickly.

Breakfast selection was plentiful, the facilities at the hotel are good (e.g. heated swimming pool, elevator to take you to different levels), and the room is big. The place is also very clean and well furnished with a touch of modernity, and the staff are pleasant and friendly. Service is great! E.g. if the provided pillow is not your type, you can request to change it to another type; Also, a guest card was provided as part of the stay.

The shower experience was not that good, water took quite a while to match the heat level the handle was turned to, and the drainage for water that splashed out is not good, meaning that the floor (and floor mat) would usually be drenched by the time I stepped out of the bathtub.

I needed a few days away from everything, where I didn't have to plan too much in advance. I wanted to do some exploring, hiking, and just hanging out without working at all. The Sunstar Wengen was recommended by a friend who has stayed there several times for the same reason. It turned out to be perfect for what I was looking for. The location was excellent; it was directly across from the tram up the mountain, a five minute walk to the train station and to the grocery store. The staff were particularly helpful. On several occasions I had questions about something in the room and someone came up to help me figure it out. I particularly liked the eco-orientation: they offered optional carbon offset for the room (which they matched), the bathroom supplies were bio/sustainable. The included breakfast buffet was large and had lots of variety for this vegetarian. A nice extra were the free drinks in the mini-fridge. I had a balcony facing the mountains which was really nice in the morning and after a long day out and about. I would absolutely stay here again.

Even for European hotels, the room felt very small. There was a narrow space between the bed and the small desk. It was hard to fully open up my suitcase unless I put it on the bed. I would have liked a bit more space to lay out things and to maneuver around.
