Nice location if want to be away from the crowds in secluded area.
Property not updated/kept equal to the price of stay. Grounds/garden not maintained.

private bath was great. Museum was very good. Food portions were good.
4.1
Peaceful atmosphere, with old style Japanese decor. Friendly staff, very nice private and public onsen options. Exceptional dinner experience!
Bathroom was a bit small and not so comfortable. Since it's in isolated location in the Hakone area the transportation is limited

My friend and I both eat vegetarian and were served extremly good food!

we booked the half board package and the food is fantastic! the place is clean and the onsen although is a bit dated but the water is superb!
The building is a bit rusty and the location is not the most convenient. but actually the imperfections turn out to be just right.

The staff was really kind, and the main onsen and the private one were so nice! The location was super beautiful too!
I wish people with tattoos could use the public onsen.

Authentic experience. The food was amazing, they could provide glutenfree option as well. The onsen was OK.

Large room with a great view, very friendly personnel, excellent food. We used private and public baths and they were very nice. There were very few people when we checked in so we had the baths for overselves. Overall a great experience.

Peaceful and quiet environment, the dinner and breakfast were amazing.
4.1
Fantastic place, the staff were lovely/ impeccable. The meals were amazing, we would have appreciated a little explanation on the food, otherwise it was perfect.
A little more explanation on the wonderful food served would have been much appreciated.

Incredibly attentive staff, ryokan has a rich history (there's even a museum inside), great food and good room.
Not very international friendly, had to call for booking dinner as staff didn't answer to booking.com messages.

Very genuinely kind people. Great hot springs with history!
4.1
An absolutely beautiful place, especially in winter. The onsen are gorgeous and though you have to go outside to get to one of them, it was totally worth it. The dinner was a feast. Absolutely brilliant place to stay and forget the stresses of the city.
4.1
Poor service, kept reminding us that there was no dinner for us and refuse to help in any way to get food or to book a taxi even after we explained that we were stuck at the lake at 0 deg C with no bus service back to ths hotel.

we liked the size of the room and all of the Japanese art and antiques. Great location! Wonderful staff!
we don’t have any complaints

The best onsen in Hakone! They also have private baths that you can rent for 30 min. for yourself or enjoy with your family.
This ryokan has 300 year history and you can feel it. It's like a historical attraction itself which is worth seeing.
They could adjust to my food restrictions and made an amazing vegan meal.
Every corner of this place is cozy, the staff is very kind, friendly and caring.
Will definitely come here again.

exceptional onsen - a member of the staff was telling me that it is one the few onsen in japan that is able to use sulpherated natural spring water directly from the source, which is located right across the street. If you are a connoisseur of hot springs you will appreciate the perfect balance of the water. the food was exceptional as well, beautifully prepared and presented with many lovely local flavors. the rooms are very spacious. the setting is quiet and serene - we were there during golden week and it was so nice to get some peace and quiet after the packed trains and buses. if you have time, stroll around the tiny hamlet of ashonyu to take in the ancient Shinto artifacts.
the ryokan has definitely seen better days, but it is understandable with the terrible storms that destroyed the railways and then Covid. we hope they are able to recoup those losses soon and continue to operate this storied establishment for many years to come.

It’s historical and Japanese traditional ryokan. Highly recommended to take foreigners to this place. Went with parents from France and they could experience Japanese style culture stuff!!
There is no shops like convenience store to buy food or drink close by. Need it to take bus and takes about 10mins. As a country side, the last bus was early and almost miss it to come back.

Excellent service and food. Love the Onsen. Worth the experience!
