Great staff, amazing hospitality. Great onsen.
Staff went out of their way to carry by heavy luggage and took care of my shoes.
Highly recommended

Nice location in the middle of the nature.
This Onsen Hotel was supposed to be the highlight of our honeymoon travel to Japan. Unfortunately, while being the most expensive hotel, it was also the worst, to the point where we prematurely checked out after one night due to health concerns. The main issue was the penetrant mold-like smell in the entire building and especially the room. We had to sleep with the window open not to get headaches. Furthermore, we wanted to relax there and enjoy the Japanese Onsen culture. Both were impossible as this is more like a hostel than a hotel. A lot of young backpackers were active in the facilities, and their behavior was far from what is acceptable in Japanese public baths. They were noisy and poorly mannered. In addition, the washing machines were apparently right above our Japanese-style room, meaning that apart from the chit-chat on the floors, we also heard the washing machines way till midnight.
This was the only hotel where my wife did not feel safe and comfortable due to the many young, loud, and overwhelmingly other guests. Part of this is that the sink is outside the rooms, and the toilets are shared with the rest of the guests. So, you need to unlock the door and get on the floor if you need to go to the bathroom at night. This is not what we expected for 150€/night. It's also worth noting that the location is not ideal to arrive by car. The parking lot is on a very steep hill, and especially during rain uncomfortable to park. There are also a lot of stairs to the hotel, so you better not arrive with heavy luggage.
All in all, this almost ruined our journey, and when we checked out earlier than planned, the staff was not very diplomatic in our request to get a partial refund, primarily due to the language barrier. Since I pre-paid the entire amount via Booking.com, I had no leverage to negotiate during departure. Luckily, the Booking.com support was helping us to get the desired refund, which we could use to move to a better hotel short-term.

Good natural onsen with view
It was a raining season and the staff was not helpful to transport us with our luggages to station.

The atmosphere and the onsen makes you really feel like back in the days.
Water in the onsen is great and the onsen is open untill 23:00, so we could use it twice - in the evening and in the morning, although we arrived late at around 20PM.
It is getting a little bit old, so it might need some refreshing, especially the rooms.. The location is actually far from the center and from places to eat and there was no food served there.

It’s a quaint traditional seemingly family run onsen. The staff were very helpful.
The house is very hollow so any movement can be heard and felt.

the surrounding nature was beautiful and the food was very good!

The breakfasts were wonderful. They were a lot of different Japanese side dishes combined - each day there is miso soup with crab, and a fish dish that changes each day. (we stayed 4 days, and on the 4th day the fish was the same as the first day)

The DINNER is fantasy. The best hotel dinner I ever had during the whole trip. The staff is nice and even remind me to have onsen earlier in the day to enjoy better view.
The road is rough for those who carrying luggages and quite a lot upside hill.

My daughter is a vegan and our initial hotel in the Hakone region asked us to cancel last minute as they were not prepared to cater for her dietary requirements. Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura were extremely helpful and bent over backwards to create meals (breakfast and evening) which she was able to eat. I cannot fault them for their respect and friendliness.
Only a slight niggle, the men's toilet was a bit whiffy, but it didn't detract from a very memorable two nights stay.

Nothing!
It is filthy, unhygienic, the walls were so thin with unwelcoming staff who suspected my children’s ages. We found a big spider in our room which we had to exterminate ourselves.

The personal at the hotel are very kind and attentive. They did everything in their power for me to feel comfty. The onsen is really good.
Wifi connection doesn’t work well and is very slow. There is only 1 bathtub in the onsen and we share with male gender, so we can’t use it anytime we want (although I was the only guest, so they let me use it when I wasn’t supposed to, thank you very much for that). Japanese breakfast is good but lacks of variety and is expensive.

The onsen was unique with a sulfur, milky color. It was tattoo friendly. It was within 15 minutes of almost everything you want to see in Hakone.
I feel it was a little pricey for the accomodations. It was really just a place to rest our head.

So quiet, kindly people.
No good access by walk. Expensive food. The breakfast. No showers.
