an oasis in nungwe far enough from the big hotels and loud music ,beautiful swimming pool had it to ourselves most of the time, lovely food at highland bungalows too .Booked for five nights stayed for ten

just the room was slightly out dated but is reflected in the price and that is it really.

Paradise in the garden. Very good, well kept and clean swimming pool with sundecks and services from the adjacent bar and restaurant if needed 😀

Roads and traffic in Nungwi to the beaches. Not suitable for everybody, especially older people or smaller children. No wheelchairs or baby karts.

Friendly and kind staff! Nice quiet pool...not many children. Owners are super nice and friendly.

Not the hotels fault but the area had many power cuts which the hotel tried to fix. Unfortunately when we had no power, we had to open the window and there was super loud music (not sure where from?) Until 2am which led to a bad night's sleep.

It was a pleasure staying here. Friendly, quiet and comfortable.

All staff were extremely friendly, professional, and kind. We met the owner, Britta, who was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We loved our time here and would certainly book again.

The location was a little further away from the beach than others, but it really wasn't a problem for us. It was an easy 10min walk and taxis were plentiful should you wish.

We have never met such friendly and warm atmosphere. All the staff were trying to make our stay unforgettable. The rooms are very clean, decorated in a Zanzibar way, not very spacious, but cozy. The territory is filled with various flowers and trees. There were 2 parties during our stay, but they didn’t disturb us, as all had ended at reasonable time. Highland Bungalows are located not far away (10 min walking) from the best beach in Nungwi. Restaurant is amazing as the prices are very good and quality is high. Every evening we spent there our time, as this restaurant was the best, taking into account quality/prices. If we needed anything, it was enough to inform the staff and everything was done. The staff was ready to help you at anytime. Breakfast was ok: eggs (different way cooked), bread, sausage, fruit, fresh juice, tea/coffee and jam. We would like to thank Britta for such an amazing stay and farewell party! She made our stay so cozy, as if you had been staying at your friend’s home. Incredible! And I would like to thank a woman who works in the morning for her everyday smile and an amazing cake she cooked for us! I will never forget it.

Basically everything was great even more then I expected, very friendly personnel, The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. We had put up in this hotel for three days and we undoubtedly had the best experience ever. The owner of this place was right on spot, she was very helpful to us and had taken care of everything from our stay in the hotel. The food at the restaurant was really good and service was quick. We would recommend this Highland Bungalows to any of you who is looking for a great stay and food in a budget hotel.

What I can only complain about, which is not a problem anyway, is that the beach is quite far away, but the daily walk feels great. The rest is great you feel at home among friends. Great atmosphere

Staff was very friendly a few language barriers for both parties, but they tried to be accomodating, to the best of their ability.

Half night no water or lights until early morning. Dirty glasses in room, commode flusher broken, when asked for water so we can brush our teeth at least, they gave us open water that was used for 3 people.

The hotel it's 5 minutes walking distance to the beach and that's great, but at night is very dark because there's any light in the road. The swimming pool is nice and the staff is very kind. We had breakfast and it was good.

I think that in the last few months this hotel has lost quality because the comments I read do not match reality. There was damp in the ceiling, the mosquito net smelled bad, there were some ants in the toilet,... Maybe we were in the worst room and the others were better, but we are disappointed with this hotel.

If you are looking for a relaxing stay, I cannot recommend Highland Bungalows at all. Every night starting at 8pm very loud music with a strong bas, disco or krakow starts. This continues long after midnight. It was impossible to get a sleep, especially if you travel with children. The DJ ignored our asking to turn down the volume. We send a complaint via Booking after the first night, but it took 3 days until the owner responded. The owner did not answer to the Booking.com mails. I had to contact him directly., before I got an answer. We booked for a week but left after 3 nights. The owner at least refunded the remaining nights. If you want a relaxing ( especially at night) accommodation, I cannot recommend Highland Bungalows at all, until the loud music issue is not resolved.

Great service at reception, just a few meters to drive by car for me (because of a broken foot), but everyone else (!!!) is able to walk her-/himself. Great Location!!!!

we were really disappointed so unfortunately nothing

This hotel is definitely not how it is advertised online. My partner and I were booked here for 2 weeks but decided to move elsewhere after 4 days. We spoke to 2 other sets of guests who both checked out early for the same reasons. I have no idea how this hotel has so many positive reviews, it makes me sceptical that these are legitimate. My partner and I do thorough research before we book where to stay, which is why we were so surprised by how different this place was in real life compared to how it's advertised. In our room there was only one small bar-of soap, no shampoo/conditioner/bodv wash, no hair dryer. Each time the room was cleaned, we never got a new bar of soap. There was a very limited breakfast, a lot of what was on the menu wasn't actually available, and what was available looked nothing like the photos online, I'm not sure where they got all the photos they post of their food because we didn't see any of this during our stay. The pancakes and omelettes were not made freshly, both were just heated up. I double checked with a member of staff about the omelet and she confirmed it wasn't made that morning. It arrived slightly warm with hard lumps of cheese inside. There are no lights in the pool, so the only outdoor lighting at night was from the porch lights and the pool itself was quite dirty and not cleaned at all during our stay, so again this was nothing like the photos. There were only 2 towels, so no towel for covering the bathroom floor after a shower. Our sheets had stains on them. We have since contacted the hotel to ask for a refund or even to provide a refund for the nights we didn't stay and they said no.

Breakfast was pretty good, the staff nice and the pool is awesome. Location is good, even if it takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the beach.

The place plays music NON STOP through the day, with the nights being the loudest, at least till 11pm. On two nights it even went on all the way till 3am. The rooms are extremely close to the "party area" and there is no way to get a proper night sleep this way. Actually ended up checking out a day early.

Honestly i didnt see much difference with a 5star hotel in zanzibar. Very sweet, cosy and clean..bonus a swiming pool which is rare in nungwi for such small hotels. Price was 38usd per night while other worst ones that i tryed were same or until 50usd. Breakfast a la carte which is also surprising for a small hotel. There is a restaurant bar with loud musique by evenings, for me it was not disturbing music is stopping around 23h. Restaurant and bungalowd are separated by a wall so that you can have some privacy. The menu in the restaurant has some russian items. They were cleaning room every day and changing towels which can be not in all hotels over there. The only thing which disturbed me was the 1usd taxe that no body told me at the beggining, its nothing but at the end of my stay I had no cash!

The pool looked nice. For a not beachfront the location is fine. The breakfast is fine.

There were parties and loud music every night. We had to ask them to turn down the music at 1 am. Seemed like a party hosel, which we weren’t aware of?! The service was slow and we had to go look for the staff. Barely any hot water. They did not clean our room for three days.

Great accommodation with clean pool and quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the main beach and common areas. If you want there is entertainment and a bar at the establishment. On the opposite side of the street there is good local food and refreshments at local prices. Good location with a 10min walk from the beach.

Unfortunately kitchen renovations were taking place at the time we stayed there, but we look forward to visit again and try the seafood pasta in the sky room!

we have stayed 6 nights, way too long for this place. The bungalow is very outdated, cleaned was only floor and bed sheets. bathroom was in very bad shape, not pleasant to shower. they have closed dog behind our room and he was there all the time and howling day and night. I have approached management few times about it as we could not sleep because of him and they did absolutely nothing. the food standards were very low , we had only breakfast every day but the quality and portions were very bad. One restaurant employee was nice but others not very helpful. breakfast was included in our booking but we had to pay for still water .

close to a good beach with a lot of life, the room was good and the food was very tasty.

The pool was beautifully kept and refreshing and the staff were friendly. The rooms are clean and the aircon is a nice touch. Billiards is a great addition for entertainment.

The only room concern was the shower head holder being unstable. We found the food menu quite disjointed and unspecific and the pool tables and equipment could be better kept. All in all it was a good experience, but attention to detail is lacking slightly.
