This is a hard one because we've stayed in many 5 star rentals and this one just didn't measure up. Toilet ring. Ant infestation. No pots big enough to make a large batch of both spaghetti and sauce. No blender. No stools for the eat-at counter. All of our other rentals were so much better. Host was friendly and helpful but somehow it just didn't suit us.

The noise of the ceiling fan in the master bedroom could be annoying in the middle of the night. The towels and closets keep a saved smell, the towels are worn and stained. Also, the lights are blinking and not only related to the use of the heating water system.

A Wonderful Time Spent in the Garden of Eden - Literally!
We were in the middle of the rain forest, less than a 5 minute drive from main street, El Valle de Anton. The house was immaculate, with all amenities. Slept like babies, with windows open (screened and barred), and woke up to birds singing. Saw a sloth with baby, monkey, toucans, constant chirping from all the hummingbirds, and too many other tropical and exotic birds to mention. All this from the front area of the house. Also had fresh bananas and mandarine oranges daily from the property. Valeri was completely accessible by phone at all times. We have been renting houses and condos all over the world since 2008. This was the most complete and trouble free experience we have ever had. If it works out, we will definitely be back.

Fun for all
We were 6 people, ages 4 to 74. Loved the birds in the oranges. Found the creek to be somewhat farther away than imagined. Loved the fresh breezes instead of AC.

Truly a paradise
We stayed at this property 11 years ago. It was amazing then, and it is even better now (if that is even possible). IDYLLIC location....you feel removed from everything, yet you are close to all of the wonderful restaurants of El Valle. There is a wonderful hiking trail that originates from this property, and also a nice little stream that is good for kids to play in. This house is perfect for a couple, or for a family with two kids.

Beautiful, serene and enchanting
We stayed on this lovely property in Dec-Jan. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful – very clear in her communications, gave us lots of good advice, including on where to buy fish from local fishermen. The property is very well maintained, with gardeners and sweepers coming to take care of the grounds. We rented a 4WD pick-up which was helpful for getting up the steep and rocky driveway, but we could have gotten away with a regular sedan and walk the last 100 yards to the house. We stayed with our kids, 7 and 5, who loved playing in the stream. All of us enjoyed the serenity of the place and being surrounded by nature. All in all, we had a fabulous stay and look forward to returning!

Truly a wonderful spot!
We stayed in Valeri's beautifully-appointed house, surrounded by lush gardens and forest, for the month of March and found it the perfect spot to relax and as a base for exploring the El Valle area.
El Valle located in the centre of an extinct volcano is sunny and warm weather every day. Our house, facing east and located half way up the hillside, about a 30 minute walk from town, enjoyed lovely views up the valley, the sound of the little river running through the property and easy access to a delightful trail running alongside the river for miles, home to sloth, lizards, iguana and other creatures and many, many birds. We saw over a hundred different species during our stay including toucans, woodpeckers and hummingbirds, many coming to the fruit trees in the yard. While sunny every day during our stay, there was occasionally mist off the surrounding hills - being in the rainforest - and a brisk breeze, sometimes very brisk - so evenings were fresh and cool for sleeping.
There is so much to do in El Valle which explains its popularity with retirees, vacationers and youthful backpackers. We explored trails, engaged friendly local guides to take us to some more off-the-beaten-track places, spent a day with the experienced birding guides at well-respected Canopy Lodge as well as regularly visiting the popular Market, coffee shops, eclectic shops and good restaurants. Ideally situated between the mountains and the Pacific, a 30 minute drive took us to waterfalls, white sand beaches and a range of other interesting diversions.
Spanish, even beginner Spanish like mine, is useful as many locals, including Antonio who takes such wonderful care of the property, speak only Spanish.
We loved our stay and would highly recommend it!

Beautiful Property!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The grounds are gorgeous and our kids really enjoyed the little river next to it. Any questions or concerns were handled right away. Although we found the Spanish TV hard to watch there was a large selection of movies that the whole family enjoyed. We knew when we booked that the property did not have wifi and we found this hard at first until we discovered the coffee shop in town that offered free wifi. We absolutely LOVED El Valle and this property was a perfect accompaniment to our stay.

Beautiful Home in Paradise
I have stayed at this home 4 times. This is the best place in El Valle, very peaceful and relaxing. The owner has put in some new furniture, all new appliances, new ceiling fans, and new draperies and bedding. Kitchen is fully stocked for cooking or grilling outside on the BBQ. We will go back many times to this beautiful home. There is so much nature to view when you sit out on the front porch swinging in the hammock. Doesn´t get any better than this tranquility.

Wonderful spot to relax
We have returned home from our third stay at this Piece of Paradise. Very comfortable home with gorgeous grounds surrounding the property. Easy to fall into vacation mode-watch birds and butterflies, read or nap in the hammock, hike along the river, or walk into El Valle. The town has numerous good restaurants, coffee shops, and markets as well as a fully stocked Rey's supermarket. We took advantage of all the fresh fruits and vegetables available at the open air market which is open every day. The kitchen is fully stocked with what you need for preparing all these delicious fresh foods. We also found the fish market near Rio Hato and enjoyed lots of shrimp, lobster and corvina. The weather is always great with cooler temps at night so perfect for sleeping. An hours drive to San Carlos or Santa Clara and you can be at the beach where it is always sunny and 90 degrees. Carlos and Gisela checked on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed and answered any questions as best they could with our very limited Spanish! They also brought us fresh picked oranges and grapefruit from the trees on the property. The owner is always available by phone (phone provided with house rental) to answer any questions also. We will definitely be back in the future-love this place!!!!

This CLEAN & COMFORTABLE casita is perched on a small hill surrounded by it's own private park. Beautifully terraced and landscaped, one feels like they are in their own private kingdom! Flocks of white egrets fly gracefully through the little valley, butterflies flutter about, the occasional toucan squawks and one catches glimpses of color from the many small multi-hued birds in the area. The sloth stayed in a tree near the terrace for 2 weeks---what a show!! There were fireflies in December--so charming! I stayed, alone, for 46 nights and was not the least bit bored. Definitely a SAFE location, too!
The master bedroom bed is comfortable, hot water situation is so-so and the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and full sized appliances. It is about a 40 minute walk to town (gorgeous), but there are "hop on" mini-buses (50 cents) and taxis ($4). The caretakers and workers are all just lovely people and will help you in any way they can--best if you speak some Spanish, as no English is spoken. I suggest a stay of, at least, a week or two so that you may truly enjoy all that this enchanting valley has to offer. Many restaurants and stores to chose from.
The only possible downside is the internet situation (which the owner plans to rectify in March, 2015). If you MUST have strong, dependable, constant access--well, this might not be the place for you. I suggest checking with the owners for an update. The owner was most helpful and easy to work with--quick with replies to any and all questions. This is definitely a TWO THUMBS UP property. Should you chose this property, you will be THRILLED with your choice. Really!

Wonderful place!
We just checked out after three wonderful days in this quaint little place. After spending 7 days in the hustle and bustle of Panama City, this was a wonderful spot to relax in peace and quiet.
The place is well appointed with a complete kitchen for making meals. Grocery store El Rey is well stocked.
Love the large room with several beds for family. Lots of movies, games and cards to keep everyone occupied.
My only recommendation would be ti install a fan in master bedroom. We weren't lucky enough to have the cool weather that El Valle is famous for.
We will definitely try to rent again.

DEFINITELY "A PIECE OF PARADISE!!"
Just returned from two weeks in this super location. Surrounded by nature's best, we would wake up early, grab a coffee, and go outside to just listen and watch the rainforest come alive. Birds of all sizes, colours and songs would give us quite a show. We even got to see the elusive blue crested Motmot on more than one occasion, and a momma sloth and her baby spent two days in a tree right on this property. Wow! Inside the home you had everything you would need, and we appreciated use of the barbecue so we could remain outside and soak up the incredible views from the patio.
We enjoyed the town of El Valle, and ate in town a few times, which was both delicious and very affordable. We did the local tourist sites, the market, the zoo, pictographs and waterfalls. The caretakers, Carlos & Gisela and also Antonio were friendly hardworking people, and kept the property looking amazing. We took many walks down by the stream and checking out the trails up the mountainside.
We met the owner, Valerie, at the end of our stay, and she was very patient and helpful, answering our many questions about the area. We would love to be able to return again in the future. Thanks Valerie, Carlos, Gisela and Antonio for sharing this property and keeping it the way Mother Nature intended. Peace and serenity at its finest!!

Tranquil & beautiful
We had such a peaceful and relaxing 9 day vacation in this comfortable house. The gardens are gorgeous and lush. Carlos and Gisela were kind and very helpful. We hiked along the river daily and climbed the hill behind the house. Beautiful birds and butterflies and the sound of the waterfall was so peaceful. We used the grill three nights, and I cooked several meals and found all the equipment necessary. The new supermarket had all the spices and salad ingredients, etc., that we wanted. We never missed the a/c. We took trips to the beach. We will definitely be back!

LOVED THIS PLACE, deserves more than 5 stars!
Where to begin? How does one describe heaven? The blue-headed mot-mot (check them out on google images) sighting on the property. Butterflies everywhere, some huge, even saw the Blue morpho a few times. The creek/river (depending on whether or not it just rained) lulling us to sleep at night. The hammock overlooking it all. Being able to cook meals at home. Waking to birds. Being in a very quiet valley within the valley of El Valle ( important because the local high school practices their drum and bugle corps till 10PM with a lot of enthusiasm and noise, and not as much talent).
Carlos, Carlos Jr. and Gisele were the best. So friendly and helpful.
The property was perfectly maintained, the house snug (a BIG deal in the tropics, bug-wise). So peaceful. Valeri was so easy to work with. Definitely going back.
Thank you so much for the use of your casita :)

Exceeded our expectations!
Thank you for sharing your home with us! After the trip up from Panama City, what a wonderful surprise to arrive in such a beautiful spot. The sloth was kind enough to be visible in his tree. Our grandsons found lots of places to explore and we enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the mist blow through the hills.
We'd love to return someday and would recommend your home to anyone looking for a lovely, relaxing spot.

We stayed 2 nights and loved the property. The care taker, Carlos, is a great guy. We loved every minute of it.

Truly a piece of paradise
My family and I wrapped up a two week trip to Panama with a visit to this property and we couldn't be happier that we did. The house has a garden that many would pay money to visit. It is beautifully cultivated and yet still manages to make it feel that you are deep in the forest. We saw many beautiful birds and butterflies while we were there including three toucans and numerous Blue Morphos. There is so much to do in El Valle, I wish we had planned to stay longer. Make sure you leave time to have your morning coffee on the patio area and watch the valley wake up.
The property is as advertised and, while we were worried that we would be too hot without A/C, the temperature was perfect. My husband and son did notice the humidity, but we are accustomed to a drier climate. It didn't really slow us down at all though. The photos are great, but really don't do the property justice. The caretakers are wonderful hosts who are very helpful in suggesting things to do and making sure you are happy with your surroundings.
The owner was helpful and professional and I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Piece of Paradise
It was love at first sight. My husband and I travel alot, but usually stay at all inclusive resorts. This was our first time to actually be a part of the community and I highly recommend it. The house was everything listed in the discription and more. The house and property were very clean and well maintained, with Carlos (the caretaker) coming out just about everyday and keeping us supplied with fresh bananas that were absolutely yummy. I loved waking up in the morning with a pot of coffee and sitting outside watching the birds and butterflies seeing new something new everyday. Valeri was very, very helpful with all our concerns and quick to answer any questions we had. She even loaned us her truck to get around while we were staying in El Valle. We cooked several meals after buying fresh shrimp and fish from the local fishmonger's truck, plenty of dishes and cooking utensils to prepare any meal you would desire. But, enjoyed eating out in town at several of the local establishments---very good and more than reasonnably priced. Took a day trip to San Carlos to the beach (first black sand beach I've ever seen and lots of sea shells). Watch out for the hermit crabs. Enjoyed visiting El Macho (waterfall), the local zoo, going to the open market and meeting all the interesting and colorful people of the town. Ty's sport bar is a great place to meet expats who have made El Valle their home full of information and tips. I would highly recommend El Valle and this piece of property for a truly relaxing vacation experience. Hope to visit again and again.

1st trip to panama
We liked the house very much. It was very comfortable and well appointed.
It was nice to relax on the porch outside too. Fireflies at night! The grounds and trail were great.
The little town had good food in the restaurants, stores and bakery. Wifi at the library. We liked the museum, ziplne, thermal pools, marketplace, kids in school uniforms and all those horses, dogs, and chickens everywhere. Caros and Gisela took good care of us. We'll be back one day!

Great Escape from northern USA Winter!
We recently returned to Minnesota after spending 2 weeks in El Valle at this Piece of Paradise! It truly is just that. It is such a beautiful, relaxing setting. The house is very comfortable, the grounds are amazing, and the weather is perfect. The pictures do not do it justice! We enjoyed watching birds, butterflies and wildlife. It is close enough to town to be able to walk but yet far enough out for lots of privacy and quiet. Carlos, the caretaker who greeted us and took us to the house, was extremely helpful and answered any questions or inquiries we had. He also gave us suggestions on things to do in the area. We found lots of good restaurants in town plus made multiple trips to the market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to cook at the house. The kitchen was stocked with all the cookware and utensils needed. If, or more likely when, we return to Panama we would surely love to stay here again.

Family Stay late December 2010
This was a lovely family destination to stay at. Our son is involved in a bird project so the whole family spent lots of time hiking the property (adjacent to the river) and environs to photograph birds! (I have a new respect for bird photographers!!!!). It was lovely. Here are a few tips that we'd wish we had known:
* The caretakers are lovely but do not speak English (brush up on your spanish)
* You need a car as it's quite a distance from the main town area; preferably a higher clearance vehicle (we had a mid-sized family sedan which bottomed out quite a bit on the road into the property)
* El Valle was very wet while we were there - in dry season! Take rain gear, especially shoes
* Toilet paper and soap are provided but nothing else. Fortunately we had supplies from our Panama City VRBO so we didn't need to buy too much at the Chinese Supermarkets (a very underwhelming experience)
* Other: We did not get a cell (as mentioned) but we didn't need it. There is currently no ability to get internet (again, not a problem for us)
Overall, a wonderful experience and one we're pleased we did. Thank You!
