The breakfast was excellent, and we really enjoyed the evening meals we booked while at The Bushel. The staff who looked after us - Dawn, Kaylee, Oli and Paddy were very friendly and good fun, thank you.
Nothing.

Always great friendly service at the Bushell. My mum and i always feel well looked after. The pub is cozy and menu and drinks selection good. We even did the pub quiz this time!!It’s a short walk to Bury Centre. We attended the Apex so excellent location. We look forward to our next visit.

It was most unfortunate that the first evening there was no hot water, but it was rectified the next day and from then on the visit was good. Everywhere was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were absolutely lovely - Josh was most welcoming and extremely thoughtful in that he noticed how much trouble I have walking and with steps and suggested that we might like to have a ground floor room instead the intended one up two flights of stairs, which we gratefully accepted. The car park was directly outside which was also good, as it was easily accessible. The other two people, whose names I don't know, but who served us breakfast for the next two days were also extremely pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and there was plenty of it. The area in Bury St Edmunds was in a very pleasant street with lots of small individual shops.
Nothing, really - the cold water was just an unfortunate accident and not the fault of The Bushel. These things happen.

Very nice
The car park a bit small

Very convenient location. Well run establishment with friendly and helpful staff.

On arrival, we received a friendly and helpful welcome.
The room was comfortable and an ok size.
The Bushel is in an excellent location for the town centre.
The windows were very draughty and didn't keep out much noise.
The bathroom was a decent size but was tired. The shower tray had been broken and repaired, but it just looked dirty. The clothes hook on the back of the door was broken/missing.
Saying all that, we would definitely return to this hotel.

Friendly helpful staff. Beautiful old building. Would certainly use again.
The breakfast was good but it would have been nicer if some of it was grilled. As it was very oily. But an awful lot and very well presented.

Amazing location close to everything we wanted, great staff and comfy bed
The bedroom was tired and needs a lick of paint and some tlc but was warm and comfortable

Great location
Not as clean in the corridors and stairs as could be. Staff in our morning of departure were distracted by IT problems rather than dealing with my checkout- I had to ask front desk chap to come off the phone so I could pay bill. A bit rude as I was standing in front of him obviously wanting to leave promptly for our journey.

Location, as going to Apex theatre . It was absolutely lovely, room perfect on all counts as was food ! Unexpected we joined in quiz night so nice to see full pub !! Lovely staff , the first “pub” I’ve stayed that didn’t smell like a pub ! Cannot recommend it highly enough!!
Absolutely nothing! Loved it !

Perfect location for walking to the Apex Centre for a concert. Very friendly, helpful staff, who were happy to help with our luggage up the steep staircase. Great choice of breakfast. Comfortable, spacious room.
We were a little worried about the steep, narrow staircase, but after a few attempts we got the hang of it! Otherwise, no problems.
4.5
The convenience to the town and The Apex.
Nothing. It was a very nice place to stay. But maybe a better light in the bathroom over the mirror?

The staff were very helpful, price and location was good
The room we had was at the back of hotel next to car park so deliveries woke us up in the morning. We had breakfast at the pub which was OK for the price but could have been better beans were cold and egg was over cooked.

Pub itself was pleasant enough. Situated close to the centre.
Was put in a room, outside the main building in the carpark !!!!!
Room 3, "The Nutshell " AWFUL........one of the worst rooms I've ever had the misfortune to be given. Walls were dirty with stains, could hear every word from the room next door, noise from people sat outside drinking & when people came & went, some very strange loud plumbing noises, at various times throughout the night which woke us, I could go on, time & space prevents me. Just room unbelievably poor. Left one night early & finished my stay at a very well known chain of Hotels, same price but wow, thousand times better. One of the staff offered me a refund, but as expected, I'm still awaiting this & don't honestly expect to receive it. Sadly, this is also the first review I've ever had to be negative about. I really hate complaining.

Good location, close to the train station and centre of town.
The noise was very loud in the evening due to a quiz taking place in the pub. I wanted an early night but couldn’t sleep due to the volume of the microphone (it could be heard through the floor). There were also spiders webs in the corners of the room and the windows weren’t working properly.

Breakfast was fine
Our room on first night was unbearably hot. It transpired that a boiler was under the room. A member of staff said they had stayed in the room and they couldn't sleep either so why was it even available to use? It made my wife feel quite ill It was so hot and neither of us were able to sleep. The pub and staff were good but this experience on our first night ruined our stay.

There was nothing appealing about the Bushell. The room allocated (Room 5) was very tired, paint peeling from walls, damaged walls, furniture was dirty and scarred/chipped. The room was airless and extremely hot. The staff had positioned two large electric fans in the bedroom, which suggested that they were aware of the temperature within the room. In the shower/wc an adjoining door (which was very unsatisfactory to have in the confined space) led to the boiler room. The door was warm to touch and a potential fire hazard. While the shower itself worked well, the shower head was broken and could not be adjusted or set in a fixed position. The actual shower spray was broken therefore the water came out in a deluge from one side of the shower head. The room was positioned above the kitchen, from which the extractor was positioned in such a way that the heat from the kitchen was blown directly towards the bedroom, which necessitated keeping the window closed. There was nothing to like about the experience. The window blinds were broken and could not be raised. This necessitated having to roll them up by hand and securing them above each window (there were two such windows). The other window, one which could have been opened if it were not for the heat and fumes being blown from the kitchen extractor, had a net curtain and a single curtain which did not close fully.
The Bushell is one of three Inns owned and managed by Greene King. It would appear to be a very popular gastro pub, with a high percentage of passing trade. Notwithstanding this, little appears to have been done to the infrastructure. Holes in the ceilings had been roughly boarded over, the general appearance was one of being very tired with little thought being given to customers staying at the Inn. When we suggested to management that the room we had been given was too hot, the reply was that its an old building and as it is a hot day what would we expect. They advised that we could not be allocated another room as the Inn was full. This did not appear to be evidenced as only a few tables were set for breakfast. The general feeling was that the manager just could not be bothered.

Great location and a lovely breakfast.
A mirror over the dressing table would be an added bonus to use the hairdryer

The fact that my room was out in the car park where you had people walking around outside my window and that’s where the smoking shelter is as well and plus you had tables and chairs set up outside so all you can hear are people having a drink and enjoying themselves and being loud! That’s not the problem as life is about enjoyment etc but when you book a hotel room I don’t expect to be able to hear it all.. And also I had cobwebs all in the corners of the room especially in the bathroom!
Other than that the service was good from the staff but I don’t think it’s worth the money I paid!

Great choice of breakfast, good location. Friendly staff. Parking available.
Bedroom was up a lot of stairs and next to garden which if busy could be noisy.
