Super clean house directly across from the beach. Ocean views & breeze. Beds are comfortable, quality linens, central A/C that kept the house comfortable during a heat wave. Fully stocked kitchen. Good supply of beach items for use including chairs, umbrella, beach cart, toys, spike ball and cornhole. Would definitely stay again!

We were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities of this property. We have a dog, and appreciated the gated deck so that the dog could hang with us on the porch.
When we went down to see what was available for the beach I found a great light weight tent, corn hole Fridays, boogie boards chairs…Sven a Charcoal grill, with charcoals, lighter and starter.
We don’t crate the dog because he is really chill but they even had a crate folded up under the bed.
The location was perfect. Just over the hill to the beach. And the breeze off the water was amazing. The rest of VA was in a heat wave but we would have never known.
The Hot tub was the best in the evenings.
We aren’t really a streaming family so the tv was kinda lame. (For the kids, but mom loved not having to compete with the television. And they figured out how to stream their favorite YouTube channels.) we never really got the tv to work in the master bedroom. I think the internet just wouldn’t reach.
Seriously we had a really great time and loved every bit of the house. (Word of caution: walking the dog on the beach is a pain for my dog. He is a hound mutt and chases waves. So I rather walk him on the road. That beach road has no sidewalk. And the shoulder is very narrow. I did find a few “hiking” paths. But they were VERY buggy.)

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The location is unbeatable. Directly across from the beach and within walking distance to restaurants. The property was clean and the beds were comfortable. We hope to make it back someday soon!

We had a wonderful stay at the Salty Dog! The proximity to the beach was great! Being next to John's was a plus! The hot tub was great, we enjoyed it nightly. The neighborhood felt safe and welcoming. The location was central and easy to navigate to shops, restaurants and grocery stores. The host was prompt with responses. We enjoyed the deck, where you were able to hear and see the ocean. We had a great time and recommend staying at the Salty Dog!

We had a wonderful time at this property. I thought it would be hard for my elderly dog going up and down the stairs every time she had to go out but with her harness I was able to get her up and down no problem. The harness helped too for across the street to get her up the hill to the beach for an evening run. My kids had a blast but I think my dog even enjoyed it more. The place was just as advertised and in a great location. We left very early on our last day and my aunt inadvertently forgot one of her bags. When we unpacked we realized it was her bag but Mike had already contacted my shortly after we left to let us know we had left it behind. She will be receiving it today and we are so grateful. We cooked most of our meals and were able to find any kitchen appliance or utensil we needed. We loved how close the Target was, gas stations, and John’s next door had live music some nights. We ventured out to Duck for one of our meals to Coastal Cravings which was so delicious. I think anyone would love staying here! Any question or problem was easily resolved by reaching out to Mike. We look forward to another trip and would love to stay in this house again.

Had an awesome beach week at the Salty Dog. The location is perfect. Tons of beach chairs, boogie boards and even spike ball are in the outdoor closet. Access to John’s next store for lunch and ice cream shakes was yummy and convenient. Wish they did breakfast!! The house could def use a bit of a refresh as some of the areas and pots and pans are a bit worn out but it didn’t affect our good times! Would stay again! And it’s pet friendly!!!!

We had a wonderful time in Kitty Hawk. The house was great and just as advertised. Mike was super helpful and easy to work with. The location is awesome for beach access, restaurants, night life, fun, etc. Being beside John’s was absolutely I problem and even a plus so we could grab lunch or a milkshake. Our dog enjoyed herself too! Just wear shoes on the beach on the hot days (and remember your dog’s feet will burn too!)!!

The Salty Dog is wonderfully located across the beach road, but unlike most such properties, there is no building in front of it, so you get a great ocean view! There were just two of us, so there was ample room. The place was clean and suitably decorated. We had everything we needed except a couple of kitchen items, and we made do without those. The porch is great! It's fun being next to John's Drive-In. I recommend the Dolphin Boat!

We had a group of ladies just wanting to relax and enjoy the beach. The house location was great being right across the street from the beach. Front porch and deck were nice to view the ocean and feel the breeze. The house fit our needs. Kitchen area could use some organization and more thorough cleaning. Overall the property was comfy and cozy. The bedrooms and bathrooms worked well. We all liked the outdoor shower. Laundry room was helpful for washing beach towels, etc. and storing beach chairs and floats. Did not use the hot tub as it was too hot. Would be great in any other season. Thank you for a enjoyable week!

Perfect center of a beachy vacation. The right combination of surf cabin and creature comforts. Ten seconds from the sand. Good air conditioning (quite refreshing in July sun). Breezes each morning and evening, perfect for the spa on the back deck. Surrounding decks large enough for cornhole and crab boils. Easy reach to sights of Wright Brothers, Hatteras and Duck/Corolla.

Wonderful House, Great Location
The rental process was very easy. As was checking into the house. The unit itself was just as advertised. It has a great location. The hot tub was very nice and well maintained. No issues crossing Virginia Dare Trail to get to the beach. The house had a good selection of beach equipment and lots of deck space. No issues with patrons of John’s trying to park in our spot and it was really convenient to have a quality restaurant so accessible. The only con: the fire alarm went off every time we used the toaster or oven even though there was no smoke. Overall a great place to stay and I’ll definitely try to rent again for my next trip to OBX.

Quiet time with family
Excellent spot and well kept secret. Perfect space and location for the two of us and our fur baby. House is set up perfectly with no detail left undone for fur parents. Great porch spaces and proximity to beach and activities/food. We will stay again. Linens provided are so cute and fresh pillows. Hot tub is a great bonus. Great location
This house was situated perfectly between Johns drive-in and the beach. We didn’t have any problem with the traffic from Johns drive-in. The beach access right across the street was perfect. House is a cute little one story beach house with beautiful views of the ocean and dunes. The hot tub was great during the cooler September evenings. We travelled with our dog so the gated deck was great. Only real problem we ran into was the yard was overgrown with some pretty nasty briars and thorny seed pods. It made taking our dog out to the bathroom difficult as it usually turned into us pulling sharp thorns and seed pods from our feet/ankles. Our dog didn’t really seem to mind it as much as we did.

Evaluation of Salty Dog
Location great for beach access. Due to location to the beach, the parking area and grilling the blown sand was extremely high. My Grandson and I worked more than an hour trying our best to remove the sand. Improvements are noticeable within the residence, but more are needed. The cleaning personnel do the basic cleaning. Master bath the sink did not drain, it was full of hair and debris. Any cleaning should have exposed it. Light on microwave light did not work. Overall I would consider Salty Dog for future visits.

First trip to the ocean
Arrived very early in the day to avoid the traffic on the bridge. We had asked for an early check in at 1pm yet got in even earlier, which was a blessing after driving 11 hours with 3 children!
The house was perfect for the 5 of us. Everything we needed and so close to the beach. (We went everyday!)
We locked ourselves out of the house the very first day and Mike was very fast to respond to our " distress call".....lol. We found everything we needed in close proximity to the house and spent several days exploring most of the Outer Banks. Our favorite adventure, besides the beach of course, was the 4x4 wild horse tour in Corrolla. We had the best guide. Her name is Edna and she is extremely knowledgeable about the horses. We learned so much!
It may have been a long drive there and back but it was well worth it. We hope to return again soon.

Loved being so close to the beach.
We had 3 small kids with us. You had to cross the street. People very courteous in stopping. It was so close to the beach we could run back to get things for the kids. The beach was beautiful! House had everything we needed. It wasn’t as clean as we hoped, but then, maybe we were just picky. The owner was very easy to contact and helped resolve any issues we brought to his attention quickly. The only real issue that remained an issue was the neighbor. It is a burger place. They are only open 11 to 5, so the noise wasn’t an issue, but people going to the place actually blocked our cars in to park. The owner had cones there, which we used and then didn’t have a problem to the last day. Someone stole them. This is not the owners fault. He was apologetic. I would definitely go again!

Home away from home with a view!
It was our first time in OBX, the property met all of our needs. Though it was a 3 bedroom and we only used 1 it was still the perfect size for us. We would definitely stay here again.
We appreciate that Mike allows dogs on his property. He was also very responsive and accommodating.
The whole process was seamless. We traveled from Rochester, NY and at no point was I worried about how things would work out, if that makes sense.

Letting go at the Salty Dog
We booked this trip first to celebrate the completion of graduate school and then as a means of letting go of all the built up stress from the past year as healthcare workers during a pandemic.
Having our daily cup of coffee on the deck watching and listening to the ocean was pure bliss!
The Salty Dog provided us all that we needed to enjoy the beach and escape the world of responsibilities even if just briefly. We would stay here the whole summer if we could!

Nice house with a great location. Just steps away from the beach. Great view of the ocean. The hot tub is tucked away nicely on the rear deck. The house was super clean and convenient to restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend.

Perfect location in Kitty Hawk
We have a great time. The location is as perfect as you can get without actually being oceanfront. We spent the majority of our stay either sitting out front on the covered deck watching the ocean or on the back deck in the hot tub, and having the completely gated off porches was perfect for letting our dog have free roam. Honestly, the only improvement that would have enhanced our stay would have been with the beds. The mattress in the main bedroom has definitely seen better days and can probably stand to get replaced (bring your own pillows as well if you can help it!.) Those quibbles aside, we would absolutely stay here again.
