paid extra for a seaside view and got a room without window and definitely no seaside view. had to pay additional fees for the spa, witch is usually free for the guests, especially if you advertise your hotel as a spa and wellness. broken shower, ants and dripping through the smoke detector water made the stay not so pleasant.

Great garden and room to spend time outside, beautiful views and nice location close to a village. Easy to move to Funchal and around by bus. I recommend the hotel highly.

Only minus is that our room was very damp and a bit too chilly. We visited there in December so maybe it's not a problem all year around.

This is a very beautiful resort with an amazing garden. We liked it a lot and we were sorry to stay there only one night before our flight back home. The room is big and nice. We hope to be back to Madeira and to have time to stay more nights here.

the gardens are marvellous and very well maintained

no real heating system in our two floors space, the ground-floor with the living and the kitchen had no heating at all, it was cold all the time, the bedroom in the upper floor had a radiator on wheels, the bathroom nothing. when we arrived all the space was cold, and outside was cold and raining. The two beds were separate, with separated linens, not comfortable for a couple. There is a safe in the room but not the keys, to get the key you are requested to pay an extra. also no parking included, there is an extra as well. the outside swimming pool is cold, they do not cover it in the night. these things are surprising for a place paid 250€ x night, 2 guests with no meal included.

Due to cancelled flight we have stayed just for 1 night. The room was uncomfortable at all. Perhaps it was modern and comfortable at 90´s but not in 2022. Even with electric heating there was enormous cold. Moreover the rate through booking.com was 63% higher than hotel rate. Unfortunately we have recognized too late, our mistake. However for the hotel rate 245€ per night without breakfast you can find pleanty of better hotels at Madeira.

Beautiful setting in a botanical garden, excellent food, and very attentive and friendly staff. The rooms are quiet, spacious, and very clean. A terrace with two sunbeds and a table with two chairs provides everything you need to enjoy the sunshine. The hotel is situated in the quiet centre of Caniço and very well connected. It is a 20-minute bus ride on line 155 to the Funchal central bus station (teleferico). The trip cost 2.20€ p.p. in March 2022.

Sauna, jacuzzi, and steam bath are available but unfortunately not private. You may only use them in a predefined sequence and for 30 minutes each. The facilities were okay but didn't enchant us. Still worth the 19€ fee.

Beautiful garden, not veriable but good breakfast. Quite calm and not noisy place. Location is great as for family with children. It's near playground and supermarket.

There wasn't microwave oven. The fridge was freezed. Very poor kitchen equipment.

I highly recommend Quinta Splendida to anyone who has just arrived on the island from their long flight or needs a place to stay prior to their return flight. The gardens are over 100 years old, have been faithfully nurtured and are absolutely beautiful ( to be honest, we found them more lush and varied than that of Reid's palace, where we spent one night also prior to flying home). This for 1/5th of the price of Reid's Palace.The other advantage of staying at Quinta Splendida is that it is a much shorter drive from the airport ( 5-7 minutes only) and , for us, it provided quick access to the most beautiful coastal hike on the island ( Machico to Verada do Larano via Boca do Risco path ). The staff work very hard and are extremely gracious and the food is perhaps more locally sourced and less touristy. There is also a wonderful bakery just outside the hotel's entrance. Our room overlooked a lush garden as did every other room. The settings are varied ( pool vs garden overlook, but there really are all equally attractive at this hotel, which is rare )

The bathrooms are basic ( think Hilton hotel basic ) and could perhaps be upgraded

Canico is a very quiet village. Not a lot of restaurants, bars or coffeehouses

The staff was so kind! Exactly everything about the apartment was perfect. It was clean, nice music performances, the food was nice and the bakery, supermarket and bus station where around the corner

The hotel was pretty full, but incredibly quiet. There is so much space on the grounds that you never feel clustered. Wonderful experience.

What really impressed me the most was the beautiful botanical garden that surrounded this hotel. I was amazed by the variety of plants and trees and was a pleasure to walk around the gardens. The room was massive and the view from the front was breathtaking. I also enjoyed breakfast were I had the chance to taste delicious cakes. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing which made my stay memorable.

The garden surrounding the hotel is beautiful and you can smell the plants from everywhere which was super nice :) The room was spacious live music in the evening was a nice touch

The gardens are beautiful and the property is a great place to relax. You won't be disappointed with the beauty of the place and how it overlooks the ocean. Breakfast was nice. The staff, particularly at the front desk, were exceptional and very professional. Overall, a great experience staying at the hotel. My room was very clean but the decor/furniture need updating. In the whole scheme of things this is not a deal breaker given that most of your time will be spent outside the room exploring or enjoying the gardens. I highly recommend this place and it is a good deal for the price.

The hotel grounds are beautiful. You really feel like you're in an oasis and serene environment. There are so many different types of plants and vegetables that they grow and source directly for their restaurant. The pool was very nice as well and had views of the ocean.

The restaurant was good but seemed overpriced
