We were so sad to leave. We're already checking the calendar for a return trip. Five nights was not long enough. JD and Tena are terrific hosts! Their "Little House on the River" has everything you need to feel like home. We will definitely be back!!

My wife and I stayed here for two nights to decompress after all of our wedding madness. It was exactly what we needed! Tena and JD had left us a few bottles of champagne and orange juice in the refrigerator and the rest of the house was stocked extremely well. They had thought about EVERYTHING: cooler, cooking utensils, river towels, bath towels, fire cushions, etc. So much attention to detail. They were even kind enough to let us stay a little longer as they did not have anyone coming in directly behind us. They have a well-run operation that is extremely inviting. Thank you for a great stay!

We chose this place because it was an equal distance for my brother in Alabama and us in North Carolina!
we are all in our 70s and we just wanted to visit. The house layout was perfect. Both bedrooms felt private and the common areas were well-decorated, comfortable. The surprising and welcoming part was how spotless the OUTSIDE areas were. Tena and JD were perfect hosts who connected well and were informative and helpful while not infringing on privacy. The wildlife was stunning to watch, birds, squirrels and deer abound and are not shy. Be sure to enjoy the firepit. JD really knows how to make it perfect.
What happy, fond memories were made. Thank you for being great host with a "homey" yet beautiful offering.

This is the hardest property I've ever rated in over 10 years of rentals. First the good. It is very clean and the hosts work hard to keep it in great shape. It is in a quiet neighborhood, not far from the Chattanooga attractions. It is the best stocked of any property we've stayed.
But there are some drawbacks. The drive...3 miles of the most treacherous, narrow road that takes 15 minutes to drive. The hosts are very protective of the property and you have to text your acceptance and meet the hosts to assure you are in compliance. They are very polite, but in our 10+ years of VRBO rentals, we've never had to do this. The one night we had a fire, the neighbor's dog barked loudly and incessantly for hours. $25 for each additional fire.
The house is a river cabin. A nice, super well maintained cabin, but it's not quite a full house. Low ceilings and small rooms should be expected.
I'm sure the hosts aren't going to be happy with this review, but if you set your expectations to these things, you'll have a much more pleasant stay.

My husband and I spent a week in this wonderful little house, and I am happy to verify that all the previous glowing reviews are accurate in their praise! While the drive to the house might be a little adventurous for some, just slow down, take your time and enjoy the journey - it is so well worth the effort. A comfortable private home, lovingly renovated and furnished with more amenities than you would expect. The deck offers a front row seat to the river and we spent most of our time there, watching the wildlife and river traffic. The hosts could not be more gracious and charming. In the many years I have booked through VRBO, this rental is one of the Top Best EVER. Looking for excuses now to return to Tennessee and this jewel ❤️ Thanks, Tena and JD!

We could not have asked for better hosts or a more perfect house. All details were taken care of, down to flowers and champagne for our anniversary. The house was spotless and well stocked. We loved sitting on the porch and enjoying the river and wildlife. Tena and JD are so attentive and available. We hope to visit you again this summer.

The home was exactly as advertised--cozy, beautifully designed and just as lovely as it could be. Being on the river with the spectacular views, the birds/squirrels and other wildlife to observe made it especially enjoyable. The only difficulty was a 4-mile drive over narrow, windy roads. The first couple of times we did the drive was tense, but as we got familiar with the up and down roadway, it became a bit easier.

This little gem has it all. The house is perfect. The scenery is gorgeous. Sitting on the porch watching the river go by is the perfect place to relax after seeing the sights of Chattanooga. Or if you prefer, fishing from the docks is a great option also. Tena and JD are wonderful hosts and just great people to meet. There is nothing that any of us would have changed about the trip including the weather.

A little piece of heaven!
My family and I enjoyed staying at “The Little House on the River”. It was without a doubt the most beautiful scenery that you could imagine. From the deer that visited in the mornings to the rabbits, squirrels and birds we saw, the mountainside across the river and so much more! It was the perfect place to relax and spend some time outdoors. Tena and J.D. were wonderful hosts and provided everything we needed. The house is immaculate and perfectly maintained! The interior is beautifully decorated and has a very homey feeling! Thanks Tena and J.D. for your kindness! We will be back again!

Wonderful place and owners
This property was even better than we anticipated. Not only was the view of the river spectacular, the home and property were immaculate and cozy! The care that the owners put into the place and the supplies they provided were so impressive. It is obvious that Tena and JD care about their place and about the renters enjoying their stay with all of the special touches. We certainly did!! We got to watch boaters and paddle boarders. AND a bald eagle flew by twice. And JD set us up with a very nice fire in the wonderful fire pit. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place. We didn't want for a thing! I would definitely recommend this place and hope we can go back ourselves!

The property was 5 stars. The cabin is immaculate, comfortable and they have thought of everything!
The dock on the river is great for relaxation, fishing and swimming off of. JD and Tena are amazing and the nicest people you’ll meet. We took a taxi to town and an Uber back ($26 and $18 respectively). Amazing to me that you can Uber from such an amazingly remote and beautiful setting to downtown Chattanooga in 20 minutes for under $30. I will be back to this amazing place!! You will be happy you stayed here. We were!!

Charm and Hospitality in a Beautiful Setting
We couldn't have asked for a better experience! Stunning scenery, the best hosts, and a property equipped with everything we could need during our stay. We so enjoyed our time at the house, tromping down to the river for swimming and fishing, enjoying a glass of wine from the deck, and making s'mores around the fire pit after a swim on our last night. When we ventured away from the house, we were pleased to discover just how convenient the location was to downtown and local attractions. Much gratitude to Tena and JD for their friendliness and thoughtfulness. We found ourselves wishing for more time at the Little House on the River and can't wait to return!

This property is a beautiful recently remodeled cottage directly on the banks of the Tennessee River in a quiet, remote neighborhood a short drive from Chattanooga. It is definitely a rural setting, but close enough to the city for access to everything Chattanooga offers. The sense of remoteness is amplified by the four mile drive on a very narrow, very twisting paved road that leads to the cabin. Very large vehicles would be a problem. There is a small community of restaurants and other commercial facilities, including a Walmart with groceries, about twenty minutes away by car, very close to the freeway interchange you will use to access the property. The cottage itself is bigger than the website photos indicate. It is comprised of two bedrooms, each with a nice queen sized bed, two bathrooms, each with bath and shower, a good sized living room with a flat screen TV with both cable and Netflix streaming. The kitchen is also very well furnished with utensils and a generous quantity of welcome food. The laundry facilities are excellent, parking can easily accommodate two cars, a third could be accommodated with careful planning. The in-house WiFi and 4G broadband service are good. While the cottage is best described as a single floor building, it is important to know that the entry door, kitchen, laundry and one bathroom are two steps down from the rest of the rooms. The cottage can accommodate a group of two couples quite easily, with the two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and ample living room and kitchen. Communal dining for four might present a challenge. There is no dining area in the kitchen, except for a counter that seats two with a pair of swivel chairs. There is a tiny table with four chairs in the living room, but we found it uncomfortable for the two of us, much less four. The owners live nearby and have been great in the weeks leading up to and during our visit. It is clear that the owners have spent quite a bit of time and careful thought making the cottage ready for guests and understand the complicated mixture of being available while respecting their guests’ privacy. In booking this property we sought a quiet, remote location that still provided access to an urban and historically rich area. We wanted the freedom to eat in or out, and a beautiful place to just sit and read or nap. This cottage has provided us with precisely that experience, and we could not be happier with our choice to stay here.

very beautiful setting and house
we enjoyed our visit at "little house on the river". we didn't want to leave! A Chattanooga Attraction Itself
Our trip to Chattanooga was filled with many great activities, but our favorite part was the time we spent at Tena and JD’s “Little House On The River.” As the other reviews have noted and we can now confirm, this place is packed with all of the right amenities; but the most amazing part is the incredible property it sits on and the captivating view of the Tennessee River. We knew it was going to be a special place when we encountered 4 deer and a red fox on the secluded drive to the house! In fact, we were so impressed with this house that we changed our plans and spent more time at the house enjoying all that it has to offer, including the extraordinary fire pit.
Our stay at this house already exceeded our expectations in so many ways, but we were also very impressed with the owners, Tena and JD. They both work very hard to make this house warm and inviting, and they add a personal touch as well that makes it exceptional. We especially appreciate the timely and informative communications they provided at all stages of our rental, which made our stay an easy one!

Wonderful location and property! The best hosts!
This house was perfect for our long weekend to visit our son in TN. Every little detail was taken care of from a wonderfully stocked kitchen including fresh muffins, fruit, K-cups, paper products and even chocolates on our pillows! The kitchen was well stocked for easy cooking. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were very nice. Tena and JD have the true gift of hospitality making us feel so welcome and at home. JD laid a fire in their beautiful rock and stone fire pit for us two nights and we enjoyed visiting by the fire and relaxing and just watching the river flow by. We also enjoyed exploring in downtown Chattanooga which was only 20+ minutes away. Hope to be back soon!

Most Memorable Spring Break!
Little House on the River is a very clean, comfortable, and spacious home with amazing views of the Tennessee River. It's in the perfect spot: nestled away in nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet close enough to drive downtown or to all the attractions that Chattanooga has to offer. You couldn't ask for better hosts than Tena and J.D. Very gracious and generous, made us feel at home immediately. There were a lot of special touches all around the house that made it very unique! Chattanooga is a very interesting place full of history, and we packed a lot into our stay. But one of our absolute favorite things that we did was to have morning coffee on the deck and watch the river. Very calm with wildlife quietly stirring. It was very relaxing and just what we needed! We had an awesome time, met a wonderful couple, and brought back great memories. We look forward to our next trip down!

Wow! This place is a little piece of heaven!
Spent a week here with my family and parents and it is definitely top notch amenities! If you happen to forget something they provided it! Such a welcoming and inviting cottage on the river! We enjoyed all the sites of Chatanooga while there but looked forward every day to coming back to the river and just spending time there. It is so relaxing and the beauty there is just breathtaking! We will definitely be back! This place will not disappoint!

Beautiful views - wonderful stay!
The house was very nice. Well equipped and homey feel. The owners were very hospitable. Left us muffins and snacks. We had a fire pit that we used to make s'mores. The views were breathtaking. Very relaxing stay. Highly recommended.

Amazing - Secluded Getaway - Everything You Need!
We loved our stay at Tena and JD's little house on the river. It had all the amenities and supplies you need... just grab a bag with clothes as you head out the door for a nice trip. My husband travels with his keurig coffee machine, but we didn't have to bring the machine, kcups or the cream. It was already there. The house really did have water in the fridge, an assortment of muffins and fresh fruit, toothpaste, tottbrushes, detergent, razors, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, blow dryer, cushions to use at fire pit, cooler to take outside with you.....the list goes on and on.
The decor in the home was gorgeous. I loved Tena's personally designed wall art. The quilts on the bed and throw pillows were perfect. Everything wa so fresh and clean! There was no lingering odor! The size of the place was perfect!! Now my husband and I want something just like it to retire in. The roads to get to the cabin were an adventure and made you feel as though you were even more tucked away....but everything we needed via a store was a short drive.
The view looking out at the mountains and the river were to die for!!!!! I felt so relaxed returning to work after 3 nights there!
We will be back! Thank you for an amazing anniversary trip! We also appreciated the bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge with the personal anniversary note from the both of you! Hugh and Tamara
