Is sonst in Japan nicht so.

The location was great! Next to the inversible railway museum, close to umekoji station if the san'in line and a 15 minutes walk to Kyoto station. I only had to share the bedroom with 3 strangers, so it was Véry quiet. Confort was adequate for the price.
Not enough showers, and the toilet in my room had a bad odor. M'y 40L backpack was too big for the Locker that we are given, so I had to keep it with me all day long. The washing machine/dryer didn't do a good job on m'y laundry, so you're better off going somewhere else.

It was quiet, and whilst the room was small, it was perfect for a solo traveler. I enjoyed having the private toilet facility, and the location was excellent. A short walk to Umekoji park, as well as two convenience stores.
The air-conditioning would sometimes stop working. Turning it back on was all that was needed, but at this time of the year, it was a little annoying when Heading out for 10 minutes, and then returning to an extremely hot room. Would have been perfect in late Autumn. Also, the wi-fi was unreliable. Completely unpredictable as to which network was available and reliable. Ended up hotspotting with my phone for consistent connection.

It was a great experience to stay in such an old Japanese traditional house. It was also not expensive. It is close enough to Kyoto station and there is easy acess to buses. We could also leave our bags at the Guesthouse before we checked in and after we checked out which was very convenient.
Even though we were told to be quiet while walking a group of people didn't listen and they made such a racket when they were inside the guesthouse. It was very annoying. Also there are no staff so you have to find all the information you need in the black post box or on signs. So it took us a while to figure everything out.

Great Historical Japanese Building, all with tatami, and old flair. If you ever were interested in an Akiya or Machia experience for cheap this is it.
The hostel is located next to several Bus Stations that can get you to all the prominent locationsof kyoto with ease.
The staff is friendly and speaks english.
The hostel provides renrsl Yukata (Summer Robes) as well as many other ammenities to round off your trip.
The futon was a little hard. The Hostel tried to accomodate us as best they could but still.

We picked this location for the traditional feel and experience. It certainly delivered on that front.
Our room was located in the garden view and while it was lovely to go right out into the garden, we couldn't actually lock the door to our room properly so there was a bit of a security risk (it is Japan though, so generally safe). Because of the rain, we had quite a few mosquitoes enter the room. The pitter-patter of the rain, though fitting for the historic vibe, made it a bit tricky to sleep. The toilet facilities were outside and it was a bit of a queue when other guests needed the facilities.

Enjoyed the experience of staying in a old building for a night. Also it was nice that you could leave you're luggage before and after check out so you can freely enjoy you're day even after check out.
The bed was a little uncomfortable but honestly it was totally okay.

I liked the very traditional house and room. A good place to stay if you want to experience a Japanese-style house.
It was short of staff at the time I arrived. Although they messaged me ahead of time that I had to do self check-in, it was still a bit unclear on the process. If another guest didn't help me out, I would've spent quite of time looking for my room ( there are several houses of this place.)

Beautiful traditional building with modern facilities. Owner was lovely and helpful, everything was clean and there is a lovely common area for guests. On the check in information, they noted that there was a public bath down the road which was a nice touch and I got to experience authentic Japanese culture (bath is also tattoo-friendly)

The staff was really nice!
The room is pretty dusty

Its good value for money, you get somwehere to sleep and do your private stuff for very little money and its clean. Obviously there are things that could improve but for the price its good. Expect to meet other guests regularly, you live in the same house with separated rooms but bathrooms and such are shared so how good your stay is will also depend on if your housemates are respectfull or not.
The Staff are nice but not around very often, its a very old building i think 100 years or something and you can hear sounds from other room like if they drop something on the floor. The rooms are quite small.

It's a historic building which was amazing to stay in. The guesthouse consists of different buildings next to each other and self check in was absolutely simple and worked really well.
If you have a problem with small spaces you will have trouble feeling comfortable in the capsules of the dorm room. They were really narrow and also not high. I could barely sit upright...

There was no breakfast
Same price if you stay a few nights and not changing just because it’s the weekend.

The facilities are nice and the rooms are really lovely to stay in
The distance to travel to the property is slightly far away from the train station

traditional-inn vibe !! stairs only, hot tub was so helpful, nice share kitchen in the main building, self checked-in after 9pm
so cold during winter (mid Feb), strange smell in dorm, stairs only, toilet outside the building definitely no for winter 😂

A beautiful and quaint hostel build out of a real traditional Japanese wooden house that has existed for many years. They even retained some of the original furnishing such as the old mortar stove as decor. The little courtyard gardens were pleasant to the eye but it was hard not to notice the jarring air conditioning units by the side. Very quiet place in a quiet neighbourhood . Nice and clean furnishing with beautiful shared spaces.
I arrived at 6pm and checked out at 10am the next day - saw no staff at all. Ever since the pandemic everyone's been doing these "self check-in" thing. They leave you a paper outside with instructions and it's almost like an annoying scavenger hunt to understand exactly what you needed to do in order to check in and check out. I was not impressed and definitely did not feel welcomed.
My experience trying to contact them via booking.com's messaging service was a nightmare as they fail to answer my questions promptly and when they do reply, they don't answer it sufficiently. I actually booked this hostel twice for different parts of my trip but the 2nd part had to be adjusted because of the big snowstorm. They were so tardy with their reply, I was left incredibly anxious and booking.com had to step in to help (which I am so grateful for!) . I'm not sure if I'd book with them again...

Traditional house, quite spacious bed
Quite a walk from station, every noise could be heard in the house. The payment is done be cash and they require you to have the exact amount which can be quite inconvenient. There was an additional tax to be paid that was not included in the reservation price, I think this is a major issue, that should be fixed asap.

Very nice traditional Japanese house
The bottom toilet is not so well maintained and one of the bathroom is out of service.
